Ever seen the Dementers in the Harry Potter films? Larry Ellison was the model. In terms of Corporate Evil, Oracle is the Prince of Fucking Darkness. They make Microsoft look like a bunch of panty-waists.
...Could these things have been said with a little less venom? Yes, probably. But the bottom line is that WE CARE because we have a deep vested interest in this Subversion stuff.

....Getting out of marketing and into IT was the best career move I ever made.
It contains this thinly veiled solicitation to defend spammers: "As a mailer, you have a tough road to navigate. While proper and legal commercial e-mail is simply a business tool used by most of the top online and offline businesses today, there still is the perception that all such mail is "spam". Of course, nothing is further from the truth."
If there's any way to organize and refuse to relay mail from any of these greedy self-appointed guardians, I'd certainly be interested. Blacklisting all mail out of their domains would probably be extremely educational for them.
Keep in mind, if people can't watch TV, they can't watch TV commercials encouraging them to buy useless stuff. If that were to happen whole industries might collapse...the end of civilization as we know it!
What's a few million to prevent that from happening?
...Just how good does your video chat quality really need to be?
Time to scope your requirements. If you're just chatting up your buds, do you really need much more than a small, choppy image? If you were doing remote brain surgery or something extremely critical where a great deal of visual information was necessary, that's another matter.
I'm not being argumentative - just asking the question.
...This turned into the typical "Boil the Ocean" project. Features kept being added and scope increased until there was no way it could be successful in a finite time/schedule.
Didn't own one of these, but my best friend had one. I used it to write my thesis in grad school, along with a bunch of research papers. I remember feeding reams of paper in to that beast of a printer. It ran MS-DOS 3.2 and Sanyo bundled WordStar, CalcStar and I forget what else with it. Like a lot of machines at that time, it was only semi-compatible with the IBM PC.
We were a Sony-less household this Christmas -- no slim Sony digital camera for my college student and no PSP for my high schooler. They were not all that pleased until I explained what a rootkit was and why it was so bad. They were still pissed, but at least understood I wasn't just being a cheapskate.
Did a quick check of the source...it appears that at least the front page was developed using Macromedia Dreamweaver--there are the tell-tale signs of Dreamweaver javascript code embedded in page. Not to bash DW or anything, but...
From the image that were cut off, it appeared as though cloud cover masked portions of the city at the time the photos were made. Of course that's pure speculation on my part, based on a small amount of evidence.
The Disney that produced all the most beloved classics was a company started and run with an iron hand by one individual individual with a clear creative vision. Walt Disney was not the avuncular character we all saw on Wonderful World of Disney, but he was, in addition to being a shrewd businessman and (reputedly) chain-smoking tyrant, a person intimately involved in the creative process.
These days Disney is just another mega corporation run by MBAs and Financial types. The movie segment is a small part of their empire which primarily leverages old intellectual property (think "classic Disney films").
I doubt this was part of Apple's master marketing scheme. Still..this may help answer the question on whether or not the new x86 version of Mac OS X will run on generic hardware.
Bigger question: What about rentals? I don't have any hard figures, but I would imagine Blockbluster, Netflix, et.al. are the largest single purchaser of DVDs around.
How is THAT going to work?
Sounds like some one needs to stop smoking whatever it is they are smoking.

I love his summation in the second blog post:

To quote a former co-worker:
Business is business and fair is fair and never the twain shall meet.

Ouch!
This is pretty freaking outrageous.

Good for the goose...good for the gander.
Lest we forget, it was Harry Fox who also did their best to do a takedown of all "unlicensed" MIDI archives a while back.
Evil bastards.
But we showed them; we learned how to download MP3s.
BooYah!

Touche!
He may swagger like a Texan, but remember, he was born in Connecticutt and allegedly educated at Yale. We can't claim all the credit.
This just confirms what we Texans have known for years...(ducking for cover).
Somebody with a lick of sense re-mod this to "Insightful" -- it's most definitely NOT a troll!

Has anyone tried "Warning" the bots?
Perhaps a well-orchestrated campaign would send a message to those responsible for this bit of obnoxiousness.

"Does anyone write 25kb html pages any more?"
No...they all hire Graphic Designers who think installing Dreamweaver and Flash MX makes them web gurus. Besides, they have broadband...don't you?

He was the one publicly humiliated, detained and treated like a criminal. If it doesn't go to the victim, who do you propose it go to?
The government? The government shackled him in irons.
In the Post 9/11 world the money would go to...?
His major? Saw in the Dallas Morning News it was Philosophy. There's a sad joke somewhere in there.
