Funny, those of us who have been watching Fox News are not suprised by any of this. You can only hear "WE ONLY HAVE 10 YEARS LEFT" so many times perpetually over a 40+ year period and not be skeptical.
I think a good rule of thumb is to just use less energy than algore. If he truly believes the planet is in perial, he must be a good barometer to measure one's self against.
I don't agree with the way the RIAA treats quote *artists* unquote. But I wouldn't equate them with drug cartels.
If the RIAA is so stinking bad, I don't understand why 'artists' don't make any sort of competing music label that does things right. You have a group of people with millions of investment capital, where is it?
Pearl Jam? Radiohead? I hear a lot of complaining but not a lot of action. I'm thinking if any number of great, established bands/artists, like the previously mentioned, that could probably get the job done.
But I'm asking why has it not happened yet? With electronic distribution you don't have to deal with anyone you don't want to.
I honestly don't get it.
Anyone?, anyone?
is it the lines of nose candy and women?
the mutual feeling of eveyone thinking they're smarter than everyone else in the industry?
independant labels refusing to sell there soul to sign any 'mainstream' acts, depriving themselves of needed cash in the coffers for the long run?
Seriously... if anyone could shed ANY insight, I'd be more than greateful.
Everyone hates those eeevil corporations that employ eeevil 10's of thousands of workers so they can take money home and put food on their table for their eeevil families.
It be better for all of us if they were unemployed and living off the state. And by us I mean shoplifters.
And it's Bush's fault too! We never had exploding flower pots during the Carter administration. Those flowers are little Eichmann plants bent on global domination and oppression of mass-murders. This administration just let it happen because they're a tool of the potting-soil industry.
I realize the English might not be your first language and I'm kind of embarrassed that I have to point this out but USian is not a real word. Although at first it may sound correct, the preferred term of referring to a United States citizen is generally American. Please don't think of me as a grammar Nazi, I'm only pointing this out because/. is admittedly US centric.
While calling someone from Brazil, Panama, or Paraguay "American" would indeed be technically correct, citizens of those and other nations on the North & South American continents (in my personal experience) don't readily refer to themselves as "Americans", and you'd probably get strange looks naming them such.
I ask of you not to mistake the average United States citizen calling them self "American" (in the context of being from the US) as arrogance. It is a term that has been used by generations of people from all around the world. I often catch the BBC World News (A British Telecast) on a local channel here in the US. They regularly identify people from my country as "Americans". Another good example is the English language telecast of a Chinese news report that is occasionally on our C-SPAN (a US government public affairs cable channel) network. I guarantee you'll hear the term "American" being used here when titling US citizens. Please accept my apologies for the lack of a hyper-link, I've only caught the broadcast several times and I am unsure what the correct webpage to forward you to would be.
I hope this helps explain things. Using the correct term "American" should make your future posts on Slashdot more clear and meaningful to the other readers. This will ensure the information you are sharing....
Are you kidding, look at all the websites around the net. I live in a fascist dictatorship. The leader of my country is right up there with Hitler, the third biggest mass murder in history (Stalin & Mao Tse Tung taking the top two spots). To top that, I live in fear of the USA Patriot Act. That means I can be arrested by just PLANNING on blowing up buildings/landmarks/petting zoos. I tell you, the rest of the world has it pretty sweet compared to the toil of your average American's day-to-day life.
Seriously though, I sure as hell won't defend everything the US has done, but the mindless US-bashing is ridiculous.
Whew! Just making sure the "USA = Evil, everyone else on the planet is good and only does evil things because of the US" groupthink mindset was still in place.
Good call. I HOPE people don't start pumping billions into companies that never have any hope of making money. The tech bubble was fun while it lasted, but we sure paid for it from 99 - ?now?.
People still seem disappointed if a programming position only pays 50K, like that's some sort of slave wage.
I think you are right, we need to show EVERYTHING.
-Everytime a new shcool is opened -Everytime a hospital is repaired -Every "civilian" laying in a hospital bed after a firefight, lets show the footage of them 10 minutes earlier spraying a bus full of real Iraqi civilians with an AK-47 -The Abu-Graib pictures were shown around the world and on the NYT frontpage for weeks, the proveyors of which are currently being prosecuted by the US, lets show the 99.9999% of time when prisoners were treated properly according to US law. -How about we spend Abu-Graib time (3-4 weeks) on each person we pick up and then let go because of lack of any evidence or a misunderstanding (under Saddam, they would've been shot outright just for suspicion) -I haven't seen anyone show the video of Saddam's henchmen cutting out a guys tounge then beheading him with a sword -On the same line, there's another video of a guy screaming, getting his hand surgically ripped apart with a small knife. The media won't show that to put in perspective who we are up against, but they will quote Sean Penn on how great a place Iraq was before the war
YOU'RE RIGHT, THE TRUTH IS BEING OBSCURED FROM THE AMERICAN PUBLIC!!!
Didn't arcades die because you could finally play the same games with the same quality at home?
I used to be an assistant manager of an arcade back in 95. Not sure if it has changed much since then but we made all our money off the ticket games. Kids could burn through $10 worth of quarters in at least 15 minutes. An equal amount of money in the hands of a teenager or twenty something year old would last a good hour. Plus, if we spent $15,000 on a Tekken machine, we'd spend 2 years paying it off. A $2,000 ticket game will pay for itself in literally a couple months. Even figuring in the cost of the refurbished crap behind the counter, we still made a killing.
I'm sure many a Greek, Babylonian, and Roman thought the same way.
Wow, great point!! As long as you ignore the fact there is a global economy, we have a great education system* to keep it going, and as pissed off as people are at the US, I can't think of anyone other than some extremist wackos that'd want to physically harm us.
*Our education system isn't the best, but I'd never say it was due to lack of resources. I wish the planet had the libraries, public television, and other free resources we have. I wish the people here would realize what they had and took greater advantage of it.
Yeah, an extra 50 minutes, but does it have Tom Bombadil?
Sadly no. The extra 50 minutes are broken up into 14 more ending sequences, for those who felt the original theatrical release's was hurriedly thrown in there...wait a minute, that was half the fucking movie!!
How has W. been a divider?? I've heard this a million times and it makes no sense. Bush has held his position on things, right or wrong, from start to finish. I've heard almost nothing but hate speech from everyone one the left with the exception of Kerry himself. He seems to honestly want to keep it on the issues.
What of the people who compare Bush to Hitler? What of the protesters who trample/burn the American flag and say they support the troops that kill their commanding officers? What about Ted Kennedy comparing the dozen or so reservists (who are now being prosecuted) at Abu Graib to the professional torturers and rapists that were employed under Saddam? Aren't these people dividing the country?
I don't think the "vast right-wing conspiracy" is solely responsible.
For every Cheney "We'll get hit again if Bush isn't re-elected" quote, there is 20 things said on the left that are just as polarizing.
I wonder why no one ever compares a horrible leader to Stalin or Mao Tse-Tung, they've each killed a hell of a lot more people than Hitler did???
We do have several stations that play 45 minutes of music without commercial interruption, unless of course you count the interruption to tell you that you're listening to 45 minutes of music without commercial interruption.
Thank you!! This is one of my pet peeves, a nice long ad for the radio station you're listening to in the middle of "40 minutes of comercial free rock, only on Grab-ass FM 100.1".
As bad as the little logo in the corner of the screen for the History Channel, VHI, Cartoon Network... well all of them. I'm al ready wathing the friggin channel, what more do you want out of me!!
And why would we want to talk about the reality here in the US when it's so much easier to just march lockstep with the rest of the sheep.
What the hell are you talking about? How has your life changed since the introduction of the Patriot ACT? I'm not a big fan but it hasn't stopped me from going to the library or voicing my opinion on anything. Do you REALLY think you have to live off the grid and hide from police??
I LOVE/.
I blame Dubya for 9/11. But I oppose anything he does to prevent another terrorist attack.
New York is not treating the protesters fairly. China is Communist, therefore noware near as evil as the US. *cough* tiananmen square *cough*
Bush - "If I knew back then what I know now, I would've still made the decision to invade Iraq." - He's a hate-mongering dictator!! Kerry - "If I knew back then what I know now, I still would've authorized the use of force against Iraq." - He's our man!!
While I'm burning Karma - Howard Dean lost the election when he told a Iowa citizen that "George Bush is NOT my neighbor.", telling the guy to sit down and shut up a few moments later probably didn't help either. Most Democrats don't have a blind hatred for the guy like some people seem to have. Most of my friends are Democrats and don't like dubya, but they understand he's not some religous crusader trying to take over the world.
Celebrity Activism - Hmmm, Papa Roach is going to vote for X, maybe I should too.
Funny, those of us who have been watching Fox News are not suprised by any of this. You can only hear "WE ONLY HAVE 10 YEARS LEFT" so many times perpetually over a 40+ year period and not be skeptical.
It always drove me up the wall playing with ppl who INSISTED on being Protoss and INSISTED on playing on a map with pretty much unlimited resources.
Gee whiz, fighting Protoss yet again on a map that completely negates their weakness ($$). How fun.
Hopefully they'll put in a few different balancing stats/players into this one.
Nonsense, there is no money in the "status quo".
Wow...modded insightful.
I think a good rule of thumb is to just use less energy than algore. If he truly believes the planet is in perial, he must be a good barometer to measure one's self against.

Didn't Adams himself help write the screenplay? He's credited.

So "Good Guy" terrorists are going to make and control bioterrorism chemicals???
It was in a movie written by Art Bell, it's gotta be true.
OT but... I used to love his show when they'd have the "Time Traveler Hotline" open. Always reminded me of Peabody & his boy Sherman.
