    most immigrants learn english, and the vast majority of children of immigrants learn english, by the third generation it's uncommon to end up much more fluent in the grandparent's language than people who take it as a language requirement in HS/college.

    when people are saying otherwise, they are probably lying to you in order to make you afraid of "zomg we is being invadered by teh mexecans"

    bullshit.

    there are no concepts that cannot be expressed in english, just people inarticulate enough to be unable to express themselves.

    anything that takes an annoyingly large amount of verbiage (1 or 2 full sentences) will likely end up with english absorbing the word.

    the wikipedia entry on slike rules is pretty decent, and unlike most modern technology, slide rules are very well standardized so once you know how to use on you can use any with the same scales, and once you know how to use a particular scale you can use it on any slide rule marked with that scale.

    i find it very relaxing to "unplug" for a while. when i go on vacation there are usually wifi services available, i don't use them even if i do bring my laptop, it distracts from the whole "vacation" part of going on vacation. if i wanted to spend the day reading news and chatting with friends i would save a few hundred bucks and stay HOME to do it.

    no, agnostic means that one believes that the truth of god/ no god can never be truely known. this is seperate from belief in god{dess|es|s}


    Agnostic atheist means you don't consider it knowable but do not believe
    Agnostic theist means you don't consider it knowable but do believe (most christians fall under this category, emphasis on faith)

    Gnostic atheists believe that it can be known and that there is no god
    gnostic theists believe that god exists and can be proven to exist (5 sided bananas, etc.)

    AFAIK there is no deliberate bricking, but rather the update process and/or the newly updated system code can fail due to the presence of mods. Nintendo warns the user of this because they don't want an uproar about them sabotaging consoles if an update kills machines with a relatively common mod chip installed.

    there is no theft going on. i request a document be sent to me for free and the publisher sends it. their assumption that i will load all the embedded objects in the page is their problem not mine.

    tasteful static images and text ads will be left alone, i don't mind seeing some relevant ads. any free ipod pyramid scams will get the ad server added to my block list
