I know little to nothing about sound cards, but I just got a new system that has 5.1 channel (and a digital out) right onboard.
+ 50$ for some speakers and I am all set - I know it's not 6.1 but is there a realy big difference? Why should I shell out $$ for a sound card when out-of-the-box I get theater quality sound.
Ummm... Not a HTTP Protocol geek but from a business perspective, - but I can bet that every download will be in fact because someone wants to install this on a LINUX box, why else download Linux binaries? not to mention if I was doing this I would have a register form; fill out you name, address and other soul sucking info including Box serial # or Credit Card; then would give them a link, not pi8t proof but nothing really is;)
To write/compile and run any of the.NET languages you really do not need VS.net. Visual studio is nothing more then a nice (_REALY_NICE_) development environment and debugger. You can write your C#/VB.net/ASP.net code in notepad and compile with the command line. The compilers and documentation is part of the SDK that you can download from MS at no charge;) as well as distribute your compiled code w/o any royalties (I think).... They really do not advertise this as they want every one to spend $$ on the VS.net but that is completely unnecessary.
Any one remeber the original wolfenstein game (and I am not talking about ID's wolf3d)....
It was 1981, top-down prespective and blocky graphics, what more do you want?
How is this different from VMWare? They also have a Linux client, you can have your main OS be Linux, and be running win 2003 server/xp ect virtauly. I use vmware for testing/development; I have a windows 2000 advanced server running IIS and SQL set up to test within a virtual Machine, I do what ever I need to do then just drag-drop a backup copy of the Machine over - and I got a brand new dev enviro - no reinstall or config! Saves Butloads of time and not to mention no need to have 4-5 systems running under your desk. The plain Version of VM can run just about any version of windows, dos 6.0,
Mandrake Linux 8.2, 9.0
Red Hat Linux 7.0, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 8.0, 9.0
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1, 3.0
Red Hat Linux Advanced Server 2.1
SuSE Linux 7.3, 8.0, 8.1, 8.2, 9.0, 9.1
SLES 7, 7 patch 2, 8
Turbolinux Server 7.0, Enterprise Server 8, Workstation 8
NetWare 5.1, 6, 6.5
Solaris x86 Platform Edition 9 (experimental), 10 beta (experimental)
Ok... Why do we flame MS for buggy software... look at Red Hat's count, Sun's ect...
Not saying that ms has realy great software, but I think people do not give 'em credit where it's due... and realy bash 'em when there is a problem.
Granted that this artical is not talking about stability but never-the-less.....

The new ship is also controlled by state-of-the-art computers using a Windows NT operating system.
But Kockums and the Swedish Navy deny it could be sabotaged by hackers and say that even if it did they could fall back to traditional steering and navigation.
Mr Nilsson said: "I am not an expert in computer security but we have focused a lot on that and this ship has a lot of firewalls and clever ways of avoiding it (being hacked)."
Windows NT? - MS is not eaven supporting this OS, firewalls? Does that mean that the ship has incoming/outgoing ip traffic? Why anyone would realy on a none realtime/fail-safe system is beond me. Can anyone say winNuke?
Technically even after a format (or several) the data can be still restored... Even if you overwrite it with random bits - reason being that the way hard drives work. Data is stored as bits encoded by small clumps of magnetically charged partials. These partials are arranged by polarity. But they are never really 1 or 0, think about them as more.7877 and.2314, if I write to the same 2 bits again with the same data the # will approach 1/0 respectably. There are hardware units that based on the actual charge can uncover layers of data. Full information is here.
I was uber disappointed when I saw ep1, and again when I saw ep2.... But watching them several times out side of the theater; they are actually quite good... I think my expectations were set so high for the movies that I never got into them...
Although, LOTR did not seam effected by this Phenomenon.
This simply demonstrated that light behaves as a wave, by bending the light the resulting beams are out of phase, which will cause interference. This can be reproduces with light and sound. Such Interferense was demostrated in 1850 by Tomas Young in his Double-slit experiment. The reverse effect is that when the beams are combined in phase we get interferometry a.k.a Keck.
If I wanted a PDA, I would get a Palm or PocketPC, If I wanted a digital camera I would get a Olympus or Kodak, How about just a plain phone where the battery actually works through the day and does not cut out every time you order Chinese takeout?
The.net framework specs are open to implemintations, there is a "Open Source" (Non-Comercial Use) version of.net framework from MS Shared Source Common Language Infrastructure. I don't think MS will want to stop things like Mono, essentialy Mono is giving MS software bigger target market.
Trying to port legacy AIP's from Windows to Linux is a waste of time; especially if all you know about the API's is the external interfaces. I am sure MS's Programs use plenty of "Internal/Undocumented" features.... Since MS Based coding is moving to.NET does it not make since to support any software written in fully managed.NET code? That's where project Mono comes in. I think that when Linux runs.NET code transparently that will be when it becomes "Main Stream"...

Standard NTSC and PAL television run at only 25 - 30 fsp.... I think anything over 30 and you will not be able to tell the difference.....
Not everything is about fps... 30 fps on a voodoo 5 is not the same as 30 fps on a 9800 card....
It might run, but might be a different game. The later Cards allow for more details in textures, cinimatic effects, bumpmapping and lighting...

I think you are refering to the 1998 anti-trust case where the courts tried to block win98 because it came with IE.

Sure, But you gota boot off a floppy/cd to read the swap. As far as I know remote access to the swap is not possible.
Seeing the trailer on the site, it lok s like they might have done couple of CG pan clips showing part of the city from far away.

ahhh yes, but will quantuum computing keep my beer cold?

Agreed, what was done to Mitnick was wrong. But that does not justify the actions of the prank caller. I applaud Mitnick for making that distinction.
Ohh yea, already in beta! Koolio, the Beer Delivery Robot..
Not to mention that how much waight/density does this add to the standard cone? I would hate to hit a 120 pound cone going 60 mph...
enjoy my SPAM during dinner!
