Wrong. If done right, you can have a perfectly stable machine. It does take considerable time to get it just right, and there is always some risk, which is why "professials" do not overclock as commonly.

  2. Re:Am I the only one that doesn't like Steam? on Prey To Be Digitally Distributed · · Score: 1

I really like Steam for the most part, though when trying to play games offline can be a big hassle. I also love being able to pay the game developers the full price of the game instead of giving 90% to the publisher and retailer. If they lower the price in the future, thats fine. But I'm content paying the same, giving more to the developers.

Judging based on processing power, thats a bargain. It would cost in excess of $2,000 to get a comperable PC system. (Which don't even exist yet)

The "mainstream" console players, however, may find it harder to justify the higher price tag. Especially if the XBox 360 retails for a couple hundred less.

  5. Re:PC game decline on Quake IV Confirmed For QuakeCon · · Score: 4, Insightful

Why can't PC games just allow you to pop in a disc and begin playing?

LiveCD Linux distros have really brought out the possiblility for this on the PC. Already there are LiveCDs with games like America's Army and the Return to Castle Wolfenstein expansion. Game saves could be stored on USB sticks or over the internet.

All it would take is one big company to step in a try it. And since PC games need to switch to the DVD format anyway, there would be plenty of space for the LiveCD Linux version, in addition to the Windows version of the game.

After looking around for any sign of life in this area, I couldn't find any. I'll guess that the game patches proved too much an inconvience, as the creator would have to remake the LiveCD after every update. It still looks like a promising area that should be looked into, however.

Linux aside, this should be an option in Windows as well. I personally would not use it, as I like being able to play games without scrambling for CDs, but it would be nice for games played infrequently.

It had to be some kind of internal problem in the company not relating directly to Wish. If there was a problem with either the gameplay, server code or something of that nature, they would have at least made an effort to improve it. Before we got an IBM PC we had a Commodore 64 on which I played games like Fischer Price School Bus Driver and Firehouse Rescue and a Dinosaur game (whose name escapes me at the moment). After we got a PC (RadioShack brand (Tandy) 386...oh ya). I grew up on all the Learning Company games in the Super Solvers, Reader Rabbit series Treasure (Mountain, Snowstorm, Cove, Galaxy) series. But mostly, as I wasn't old enough to have alot of money, I lived off Shareware and Demos from Epic, Apogee and Sierra. Jazz Jackrabbit, Raptor and the Sierra Demo discs are what I remeber most of.
