    Windows 10 for ARM is the full, proper, Windows.

    The only emulation is when running legacy x86 programs because of a chicken and egg scenario where a software vendor hasn't yet checked a box in Visual Studio to compile for ARM64.

    I believe Google is undergoing certification of some Chromebook models to run Windows 10, so that you can run Windows in a Chrome OS window side by side web, desktop Linux and Android apps each in their own sandbox.

  8. An Australian company was researching dispersal and monitoring of renewable energy via block chain.
    Further, the Venezuelan government we're introducing their own fossil fuel backed crypto currency. Block chain will reduce emissions in that country once hackers short the price making petroleum too expensive to purchase.

    Australia has been in lockstep with the USA on national security for decades thanks to ANZUS. So we'll play by their rules, particularly as there's an American military intelligence base near Alice Springs. Assuming Pine Gap uses some sort of terrestrial communications in addition to satellite then Huawei and ZTE might pose a threat to US security if deployed in Australia.

    But the Aussie government hasn't yet tried to ban ZTE nor Huawei phones.

    I read a report this week that sticking long term low carb diets may trigger diabetes also.

    One of the supposed niches of smartwatches was in workplaces where looking at one's smarthone during business hours was banned.

    e.g. waiters and shop assistants where managers didn't want them browsing facebook or calling their friends - with a watch they could get around the rule by still getting notifications.

    Battery life. A piece of jewellery that you have to charge once a day using a non-standard cradle with fragile pins because it can't fit a standard USB connector is a turn off.

    Yes that's one major benefit - decoupling a voice plan from a data plan.

    In certain BYO SIM markets, it may be cheaper to stick with a basic calls and text plan and use the second SIM for data from a different provider.

    * Open the dock interface up to third parties, e.g. Belkin, who can design custom keyboard covers.

    Bear in mind a phone CPU is optimised for a minuscule battery inside a fanless enclosure. This 1000 series will be tuned for 2-in-1 laptop performance.
    That said, Google's venture into ARM64 Chromebooks should result in performance gains on V8 as they fine tune the OS.

    Qualcomm, and most Android OEMs, don't care about upstream kernels. So you're typically left with an unsupported ancient github kernel fork. *If* the LineageOS community maintain it you may get security patches...

    And that's running the Android flavour - good luck trying to run a glibc GNU/Linux like Ubuntu on the thing without some sort of libhybris compatibility hack.

    Slashdot had a previous story on the hardened Galaxy S4 that Obama was using, a collaboration between Samsung and the 3 letter agencies.

    So I'm sure intelligence would prefer that Donald use a locked-down Android device. If ZTE want to restore trust in the US market, cosying up to the feds would be a start.

    But with Huawei struggling to conquer the American market, or perhaps in collusion with US carriers, they remove the 'feature'.

    Melbourne has a free tram zone, which is great if you're a tourist staying in a city hotel or one of the handful of people that live within half a km of the CBD. It's completely useless for commuters that incur a Zone 1 fare to travel to and from the suburbs.
