There was a post on bugtraq about the possiblity that the blackout was caused by blaster since a SCADA-system(*) used RPC.
PBS Cyberwar has some intresting information about the possiblity of an attack against these kind of systems.
The effect of a large attack against infrastructure such as powergrids and waterplants together with more "normal" terrorist ways such as suicide-bombers and carbombs paints a frightning picture.
(*) SCADA : supervisory-control and data-acquisition systems that utility companies use to remotely monitor and control their operations.
I went there the last year it was held i Malmö and the first year it was in Köpenhamn. Absolutley the coolest thing I ever been to. Partying with prominent CG-people. At the after-party in Köpenhamn Victor Navone was pretty wasted and was dancing in his own world.
People could lend their cpu cycles helping something worthwhile out Folding @ home instead of looking for something that isn't there.
Helping the fight against diseases like
Alzheimer and Parkinson is a lot more rewarding than looking for little green men.
I remember seeing a videoclip from an external camera launch of a rocket into space. It was one of the coolest things I have ever seen on TV. Anyone else remeber this? Maybe someone could point to a link containing the video.
Yep. I had a brief stint in the warez-scene in high school. Ran a hidden ftp-server on a computer connected to the school network. I thought I was really cool until I realised that I was throwing so much time away. It's really easy to get hooked into the warez-scene and all th "l33t" stuff that comes with it. Like using stolen ISP-accounts for "free" (this was in Sweden without flatrate) dialup access or using creditmaster 4000 to make your own compuserve account.
I pay $20 / semester for 10Mbit/s . Tough this is with a NAT:ed adress. But I'm not complaining. :)
What holiday?
A student party in Sweden looks more like this :
Party #1
Party #2
Party #3
Give me a open firmware that is as good (or better) then what you get with an 10+ year old unix machine.
Hopefully the new 64-bit machines that are built around AMD64 and Itanium will have something that can match my old Sparcstation 5.
Microsft Windows.
It's LaTeX using the ACM template that you can get from here I have used it myself a couple of times. It's really nice.

Will this thing be able to jam networks that use frequency hopping?
I'm guessing it will since if it didn't it would be pretty useless.
Goatsex-man hurts my eyes hurt!
We are waiting for the 2004 elections. Hopefully you will vote the clown out of office.
What's the difference between the USA and yoghurt?
Even yoghurt develop its own culture after a while.
..took the blue pill, how come I'm seeing this red headline? :D
Sure it's good to visualize math. But some stuff in linear algebra ain't so easy to visualize, like rooms in R^5 and such.

Why not send Tommy Franks? =)
Someone should buy one of these for ESR with RMS on it.

Good for you. I pay $0/year =D
Finally a decent phone from Sony-Ericsson. Hopefully this will help to stop Ericsson from bleeding to death.
Too bad I can't afford this. But maybe it's just as good as I would just destroy it after too much beer.. =)
Svenska är inte alls ett lustigt språk.. =)
What do you think about Västerås then?
Not everyday I see my hometown mentioned of slashdot. =)
Oh well.. back to some boring x86 asm then.. =)
Thanks.. I'll try to find a clip of it..
