    Please let us all know what you did, when these things happened.

    Second their actions was related to the issues against which they protested. Closing down a site is a fairly powerful statement. I remember going to Knoppix's site and found out the front page was closed. I had read about it a week or so earlier but had forgotten. When I saw it made me stop and reflect for a while.

    One thing you can do is point to Win NT that is being killed as we speak.

    Now if you want to continue supporting NT you are SOL but nothing prevents you from stepping in and offer commercial RH 8.0 support.

    If you haven't read Clayton Christensen's theory about Disruptive technologies you owe it to yoursleves to do so.

    In the case of Linux the improvement in the OS is at a much steeper trajectory than Windows.

    It is starting in smaller pockets (I am talking desktop) where the requirement for compatability is somewhat lower. Pockets where only a smaller subset of functionality is needed etc. But the thing is that once in, it will not be replaced by Windows. The Niche is gone for good.

    Second Linux is Circling Windows from all sides. From big iron servers to cell phones. This means that the interoperability issue will become less and less. One day you will wake up and realize that it is actually smarter to ditch Windows than try to keep it in sync with it's surroundings.

    It's only a matter of time before MSN messenger becomes a paid service. Once enough people become dependent on it, they might be willing to pay a small subscription fee for it

    I am not sure the Inertia biz model will work here. The reason is that it takes two or more to tango before IM is useful. If your friend(s) has switched to a free service like Jabber, then what are you going to do?

    Follow or Pay MS plus try and convince your friend to do likewise?

    but many people generically refer to all pop as "Coke".

    Maybe you know this but this is a deliberate effort by the Coca Cola company.

    Example: Here in the US we have a large Pizza Chain called CI CI's Pizza. They will always ask you if you want a Coke with your Buffet.

    The reason is that his is part of their Contract with Coke. They offer a variety of soft drinks choices but always have to sell the soft drinks as Coke.

    I didn't mean religion per se, but the intolerance and more importantly the Deflection of effort that follows.

    Ancient Greek was very pragmatic in religios areas, and made room for pretty much anything provided that you paid homage to the established goods.

    It was important not to offend the goods you didn't particular have to revere them.

    Muslim world pre 1600 was pretty liberal but they had a Reverse Enlightenment led by a fellow whose name escapes me right now.

    (For the better I might add, just as I desperately tries to forget the name of the idiot that killed John Lennon?

    I have a hard time understanding what the problem would be if the GPL was not respected. What precisely is being lost?

    It is not as if the lack of respect of the GPL in Vietnam will suddenly spread like wildfire to the rest of the world.

    On a more serious note the invention of the Scientific method by Francis Beacon el al is the real cause of the dominance.

    The whole concept of progress, not just looking back to a Golden Age coupled with a purpose of study of the Natural Sciences as it was called.

    The Purpose was still framed in Christian ethics of Charity ie Betterment of the life of fellow human beings, but this was enough to "shovel off this religious coil" that has keept man's progress down.

    The problem with the rest of the world is that the Coil is still there.

    Good point.

    On the second half yesterday of Thelinuxshow Evan Leibovitch the President of LPI was interviewed.

    He had a surprising amount of insights even for someone , like me, that has been following Linux for years.

    If you have some spare time you can download yesterdays show and listen to the second half, Well worth it.
