Once Gmail has gotten a significant share they can retaliate via that. Include a few nifty features and make a link to FF, stating you need this to use it. Once FF is a 20%+- MS can no longer dictate anything.
Why not let HP and Intel carry the support banner for IA86.
The few machines sold hardly matters. HP 'claims" they will sppnd $3B on IA64 over next 5 years surely they can afford to pay for Linux on this dud of a processor.
Just look recently ruling where the Supreme COurt overturned Execution of Minors. Did the written law change? No! In the argument the majority argued that world opinion and decency standards had changed.
What they most likely want to establish is that SCO new Itanium was delayed and Intel notified them about the changing strategy of the processor.
SCO is claiming that the Monteray project was cancelled by IBM "out of the blue (Pun somewhat intended)" and due to the advent of Linux.
IBM canceled the Monteray project as they were allowed to do since the business reason for continuing was no longer there. They need to have Intel confirm this, information which Intel obviously is reluctant to provide
Google is very powerful and keeps getting better every day
I like Google but the statement is not correct in all domains. Technical searches is getting very hard, as the "sales" sites are crowding out the support pages.
Take a technical part of some kind (graphincs card, disk drive etc.) if you want to get a more detailed description or a technical discussion of a certain problem it is very hard to get to this.
You normally get zillions of sites selling this part first and even "reviews" tend to be blurbs left by a few buyers on the site nothing of real interest.
I agree it's a facinating subject. I read Kurzweill's book a year or so ago, but have a bit of a problem with the singularity. It is kind of an intellectual cop-out though it might just transpire.
Why not change your sig to Fermis's Conjecture? Anyway Best regards
Way OT but your quote about Fermi solutions is incorrect. Fermi Solutions is the method to Guestimate something using a series of stocastic independent variables.
The amazing thing is that the more you have the better since you are unlikely to guess everyone on the high or low side. The more variables you have the more accurate.
Fermi himself used this to estimate the power of the first Atom bomb via dropping paper confetti from above his head (2 meters) and look where they landed after the blast arrived. He was within 20% if I recall. There is an intersting book called Fermi Solutions that you can find here I read it like 10 years ago but the publishing date is 2001 on Amazon so maybe it's a different book I read.
You can buy a 60G 7200 Hitachi drive for around $150 at newegg and upgrade the ram to 1Gig for around $100. You can then Ebay the 4200 40g drive and the 256meg stick for maybe $100. So delta cost would be $150 or so. The Hitachi laptop drive is as fast as a normal desktop drive. You will end up having a killer system for $650 or so.
What drivel of an article. Someone tell the author that you can't really "remove" IE anyway>
That being said anyone have recent penetration statistics. FF was gaining 0.5% every two weeks through Mid Decemeber but this is the last data I have seen. Anyone tracking this on their own site, the absolute is maybe less important the the trend.
It instills a sense of empowerment and camaraderie among us, don't take this away from us ;-)

Just curious, I tried to memorize first 100 digits once and at least I still recall the first 8

Or better still pay the Debian guys

They must have fallen off the wagon since then. H^H SCO / Canopy

The estate of Jackson Pollock should sue!

Guess what the first letter R stands for!
baloney, call it by its proper name AMD64
The stats from that should give a good indication of how many of the 27MU downloads are being used.
I understand Ladbrook is giving 9:1 currently

Strange that no one seem to mention the benefits of the new Linux kernel development model, when the Windows vs Linux debade is brpought up.
The 3 years of development has now disappered (for now) meaning that on average Linux has gained something like 1.5-2.0 years on its competitors.
This in addition to being on a much faster improvement trajectory than the Windows / *nix.
Apple is somewhere in between as they release somewhat often pretty much when they have enough stuff to merit a "sale" / release.
Or just googled Firefox news where this story has been covered 1600 time

It's alin to defending old peoples right to drive despite risk to themselves and others.
Yes but the car pool will be safer and more fuel efficient benefitting the society in general more than it hurt the mechanics.
You point is valid though just too narrowly argued

A conjecture so well supported by the latest reality TV craze.
