  1. An expert in the field, finally! on Web-based IDEs Edge Closer To the Mainstream · · Score: 1

I coded up a web-based IDE two years ago for my senior project at California State University Fresno and presented it to a group of entrepreneurs at the Central Valley Business Incubator. It was a student project, but it incorporated SVN on the backend and did some slick syntax highlighting in real time on the frontend. A user could login anywhere, code for a bit, commit changes and logoff.

They smiled and nodded, but it was evident that they had no idea what an IDE was let alone how a web-based IDE would enhance the development process.

It has been technically possible for years, but now with Mozilla's Tamarin, and Google's V8, more complex functionality can be added (webtellisense?).

Meh, I have a really old Logitech M-BD58. It has a weigh inside attached by a screw. It would be extraodinarily easy to replace it with a heavier or lighter weight. While the process could be made even easier, the functionality is still the same, this "feature" isn't groundbreaking.

  11. Re:Future problems? on First Blu-ray Movie Titles Announced · · Score: 1

It is my opinion that high dynamic range video is poised to replace high definition video in the distant future. Of course, HDR video requires and HDR capable viewing device, so all of the present day HDTVs would have to be replaced just as color replaced B&W and HD replaced LD. Personally, I'd rather watch a LD HDR stream than a HD LDR one. Just don't point the camera at the sun! ;p

A non-intrusive Google-Ads-like system I could live with. A bar containing seizure inducing banners and annoying "Catch the monkey and win a gazillion iPods" flash ads would be intolerable. It depends on how it is implemented. Of course, why not just use a prexisting free OS?
