its not only the cost of building such an item but the process of getting it certified for such task. You not only have to build it, but then have teams of review committies look over it again and again, so you dont have something stupid like a conversion error.

Well since the link is dead we can only speculate about what it would consist of. But basically my theories is that such applications could easily be applied to almost any form of transportation. Clean (renewable?) source of energy that would cuase us to be less dependant on Oil. Of course this is all well and good except for the first time one of these things crashes and spills radioactive waste everywhere.

Just because it a clean propulsion method, the second the rocket goes off course and they decide to abort dump the payload or even selfdestruct the rocket, you have a nice 3 Mile Island.

  16. Re:Ouch for card counters... on RFID Casino Chips · · Score: 1

Well, I highly doubt that showing value of chips at the table is useful, when cashing out is different. Casinos are all about psychology: why are there no windows in a casino, no clocks, why do they give out free alcohol, why do you use chips, all sorts of things like that. If a person was fully aware of how much they were gambling in dollars they may be more reserved in betting. But at the same time since casinos often have point programs and using RFID you could even more effectively identify people and profile them.

they got 2,200,000 conversations so that very well could have been listening in for a long time on one person. But I would like to know the wiretap to arrest ratio.

    VoIP can easily be encrypted.

The real question is as people more and more get high speed internet access people could easily create their own VoIP set up. One that allows people to directly connect with another computer and talk with the user there. Now granted they already have this, but people add their own encryption scheme, and before you know it there will be no more telephone companies as we know it. My telephone number will be my IP.
