How can people be upset? Easy, because they can make money or fuel their persecution complex off it. The whole issue was a non-issue to me, as you had to go out of your way to unlock this, and two other mature games that year, Gow of War and Killer 7, had far more graphic depections of sex yet still got an M rating.

Actualy, nintendo knows they make the most money by skipping out on power and only doing the bare minumum to get by. Look at the gameboys for example. Most are underpowered considering what they could offer, and cut features to save money. The Ds is the only exception, but even it was just a N64 with some of the Game.com's abilities. On the console front, they do the same thing. The wii is the home console version of a DS. Nintendo only did enough with the hardware to get by, selling the console based off a controller and hype. The wii2 will be more of the same. It's not about giving you any kind of experience, it's about Nintendo making money on units sold by shorting you on power, same as always.

Actualy, the ps3 wasn't in response to the 360. Sony got screwed by hardware shortages that forced a launch delay. They started talking about the ps3, however, years before the 360 was annouced. On the other hand, the 360 was a direct response to the success of the ps2 over the Xbox. Thats why MS cut the release cycle so short, they hoped to beat the ps3 to market, fearful that it woudl be another ps2.

I'm not sure whats up with me, but I honestly didn't care for galaxy when I played it at GS the other day, something that very much surprised me. Graphically it was decent, but looks a little bloomy and hazy, like they were trying to cover up some flaw with a filter. The gameplay was decent as well, but not the mind blowing experience people keep making it out to be. It was better than sunshine, but not the return to awesomeness for the series that I keep hearing about.

It's a fundlemental failing of the law, IMHO, which is a result of bad lobbying, and a lack of technical understanding by those who passed the law.

Galaxy is getting alot of rave previews, but having played it, i'm not sure what the fuss is about. 360's going strong now, but it took them the better part of a year to release the goods.
As far as the near future goes, i'd say Sony and MS are in good shape games wise, but Nintendo has got to do something besides release endless sequals and rehashes of current francises. It's been a long time since they started a good new series.

When the DS was first shown, all I could think of was "game.com 2.0". I find it amazing so few people seem to give credit to the little handheld, as without it there would be no DS.

The Mute hero has been used before in two other critically acclaimed series: The Legend of Zelda, and hrono Trigger/Chross. It is hard to tell a story like that, but it can be and has been done successfully.

With Gordon, the key principle is your Gordon freeman: everyman. Hes not an epic hero, or a warrior, or some chosen one, he's just an average joe lab worker who gets this fame built around him. I think Dr. Green even points out the oddity of this, during one of the late game rants in half-life 2.

Now, some dialogue choices and multiple paths though the story could be interesting to see in half-life 3. I take it though, that valve wants gordon to gain fame/infamy though his actions, and not any words.

Indie and open source gameing is neat, but support on the console front has always been iffy. Sony Allowed it on the ps1 via the Net yazoo (Devil Dice is a great example), on the ps2 via the linux kit, but the ps3's linux is still too locked down. They seem to be picking up indie developers though, with the recent release of Everyday Shooter and LittleBigPlanet on the horizon. I'd like to see that expanded to get us a greater variety of indie developers on the ps3.

I've heard nintendos new program is simular to this, but i've yet to see the results stateside. I'm not even sure it's really indie, I need to read up a bit on it. Ditto for Live arcade. There are some indie games, but alot i'm sure come from microsoft proper.
