    Sorry to say that, but Google is too smart to embrace some bloated crap like Open Office that has only one point in favor of it and that is the license. In every other aspect they copied all the bad ideas in MS Office and they don't have 100% compatibility which would be the other reason to use something like that. Of course it is better than nothing but I (and lots of other people) usually regard Open Office is one of the worst high profile Open Source projects.

    Why not? Why are things some random,famous,real politician from a hundred years ago said more important/right/relevant than something an unknown screenwriter wrote? People having a problem with that should probably learn to distinguish between source and content when deciding what to believe.

    Mh, that idea wouldn't be so bad. I wonder what a game of checkers would look like if one could buy the people making the rules and the rules would change every few moves.

    Microsoft isn't very diverse either. They only have Office and Windows as revenue streams.

    Shouldn't it be possible to use the memory when (ab)using the graphics card for general purpose programming. I imagine e.g. a server (read: no graphics) for a MMORPG or some other 3D simulation should run better on a GPU than on a "normal" CPU. A whole MMORPG world should be able to fill 512 MB easily even without textures.

    Your argument is the same thing as saying: The config files for my SQL Servers are not interchangable even though both use ASCII. XML is not a document format. It is a meta format on which you can build your own document formats.

    Just write your own little preprocessor in ANSI C or Perl or some equally portable language to transform your code to standard compliant code.

    I don't know about other people but I stopped buying music roughly twice as many years ago as have passed since the invention of Napster. It simply isn't worth it due to the 1 good/19 crappy songs business model.

    It is widely accepted that it is much harder to prove you have not done something (especially something that has no fixed location/time associated) than it is to prove the you have done something.

    In my experience theatre are different. Usually the sound is worse, someone else's phone rings, another person tries to reach his/her place at the end of my line, not to mention the costs for parking, the absurdly high price for actually watching the movie and the totally absurd rules not to bring something to eat or drink in so you have to buy their overprized crap. Yeah, the theater really is a unique experience you can't have at home.

    Gentoo sure does mirror the packages otherwise I wouldn't be downloading so many of them from some host with 'gentoo' in the name. The just don't change anything and a last resort for downloading is usually the original source.
