Coincidentally my Dad just signed up for Facebook last week (he's 58). So having noted that, I can now definitively say, without having actually read the article (because, really who does that?) and having examined exactly one piece of anecdotal evidence: the over 50 crown is definitely joining social networking sites in droves.

I wouldn't call it gouging them over a technicality, rather I would call it attempting to discourage a deliberately deceptive marketing tactic. As you said, you've had to explain the difference to many people over the years so you should know that there are a lot of people fooled by this. That said, it would be slightly hypocritical for you to take the money having known about the difference before hand, so kudos for taking the high ground.

I havnt kept a virus scanner running regularly for years, occasionally evrey few months or so I'll run a check, and guess what... no viruses. I dont get this whole "run a virus scanner or you'll die in a fire mentality". Sure firewalls and antivirus are a good idea for the computer illiterate, they keep them from making stupid mistakes... but I was under the impression that most people on Slashdot did know what they were doing.

" that piracy that hurts Hollywood accordingly hurts the Canadian economy" You're assuming that without Hollywood movies that money would just sit in peoples pockets and rot. The reality is, if Hollywood pulled movies from Canada that money would likely be spent on other forms of entertainment, which would likely have closer ties with the Canadian economy. A Canadian made movie (or other alternate forms of more local entertinment) would put just as much money into the Canadian distributon stream as well as putting the final profits into Canadian hands. It would actually be a net benefit to the Canadain economy if the US refused to sell us stuff from Hollywood.

FYI The expansion is scheduled for release at the end of January 2007 (the 22nd I believe). If you count the Beta servers (invite only) Blood Elves actually do exist in the game now. THat said, it will still be a few months untill they hit retail.

This isnt targeted at you, its for evreyone who doesn't have a tivo, but does have broadband. Basically, they want to provide an alternative means of time shifting in place of using a tivo or vcr (which allows people to skip their source of revenue, commercials).
