    they also hate vacuum cleaners, hair dryers and everything containing fast-rotating fan/turbine. They hate them big time. Don't even try to bring a cat near such a noise. You'll miss a lot of your skin.

    Here (Bulgaria), a serious deal of people knows that our own country's military is the world's one-of-the-worst. They are corrupt, incompetent and ill-funded.

    And, there is even more complex approach to that matter (afaik, in Russia):

    they beleive for their army both (corrupt, incompetent and ill-funded) AND (well known fact that it is the worlds best)

    there will be always enough ignorant people to drive the economy...
    unfortunately in wrong direction (crappy disposable products, for example).
    So, in the long run, you will have real cheap and real unusable boxen - no one will make them work for more than year, etc, etc...

    HT is good only when you have 2 different (from CPU point of view) tasks to run, using different core parts - for example, ray-tracing (lot of floating point) and xml parsing (lot of integer / string operations).

    Give the CPU 2 similar threads and you are much better with disabled HT

    Not sure for the explanation, but performance issues are a matter of fact.

    until Windows XP - we were put in +1 GMT, even we never moved our borders (and timezone) in the past 50 or so years. I don't know if someone protested, we just used "Helsinki, Riga, Talin GMT +2". I was surprised to see "Helsinki, Riga, Sofia, Talin GMT +2" in XP.

    even by themselves. They hardly utilise 1% of the energy they get from the light, and even that 1% is not about the spinach. The poor plant is used in photosynthesis research because of the easily-extracted chloroplasts (compared to other vegetables available), not because they are somehow better.

    e-comerce sites traditionally ban our IPs, because of the profit/fraud ratio from the people here. The general web, on the other hand, used to browse/search/mail/chat/etc not explicitly related to money is not restricted anyhow (at least I didn't noticed)

    the idea came with the need. Connected battery leads of an APC UPS to the car's battery, and powered 2 PCs with it for ~8h. The only trick is to NOT try starting the engine with the starter when battery begins to die, PCs die too. Pushing is OK.
