How about "safe for driving" certification for devices?
I my opinion this is simple and elegant... and would no eliminate dash board embedded devices... it would not effect companies... and make prosecution of the idiots who text and drive easier!
Or even better add a GPS... and if your moving fast than 20 km/h... then disable the device.
"he said... she said" has no place in science! The descent this person is facing is for good purpose... (note: i am not talking about the death threats that is not acceptable... however they also don't indicate he's a closet "good will hunting")
When people with strong personalities leave an organization it becomes more attractive for people that would rather not deal with them. I expect Gentoo will see a trickle in of new developers.
The best sales people are techies... customers tend to be not half as stupid as the people out there with marketing degree's these days... they don't want to talk to someone who is just gonna talk trash.
Market people seem to be caught up with lectures they received in econ 101 and tend to know nothing about the domain they are in.
If you want your organization to be successful hire a good CFO and a good contract negotiator. And leave all the up front work to developers. Good techies and good customer support will be worth way more to you than any salesman/woman.
The last thing i wanna do is play a crappy 3d game just to play a good 3d game. Online services for consoles should be lean mean and efficient... not a bloody RPG! This look like a pain in the butt... bring on the load time complaints!
Blender is absolutely amazing software... i've used it since 2.39 (I believe thats the release)... and it's came a long way. It's helped me learn opengl and appreciate the difference between what an artist and a programmer can do. It's a great tool and a definite "must play with" for all developers. I only hope the skeleton & mesh export examples have been tightened up to include more documentation.
What's with this "Your with my patch or your against it!" BS... I use gnome at home exactly because it is limiting (not to mention just pretty)... my wife and friends have no problems using gnome without any intimidation from the UI at all... and I have no fear of anything getting buggered up.
I really don't see a problem with developing software based on the principle of "does my gandma need it and understand it"... that type of thinking really captures a segment of the population most coders don't care about.
Anyways I am sure linux and his patch submitted aka "Mission Acomplished" will generate a few news stories... but I really think he's a little off his rocker this time. The merits of work based on "principle" and "technical" aspects are not always to be compaired.
No true... because of timing requirements... if one gate is used it may rule out using others because of how the gates are connected... i.e. picking one gate and 1 route may not allow certain gates to be connected... so the 6 to 1 ratio refers to "wasted gates"... I believe. This is because all gates are not all directly connected to each other...
If this new technology allows more routes... i believe you will get less gate waste...
I am just a software dev... so i could be wrong though... but this is my understanding...
As a rule of thumb i was told... an fpga normally uses 6 gates to 1 gate used by a custom ASIC chip... so a 5 million gate chip would require a FPGA with 30 million gates...
This may have changed over the years... but i'd like to know how this announcement changes this heuristic...
People seem to focus on what this competes with only on the software side (i.e. apache, samba, etc). In the long run windows home server will compete much more with things like "my space", "iblogger", and google... it will give MS the foothold they need to do things google can't do with their search technology... and allow some really cool things myspace etc could never compete with.
MS gave those windows laptops away for a reason... it's not becuase the care about apache, samba, etc... they want to take over blog-land!

In other words gamestop revenues drop 40%

Space Quest? Where the hell is space quest on that list!!
"All in all, this is more of the same ... "
I have to tell you all that I absolutely hate this game. It is annoying and tedious ... and no I don't wanna join your bloody guild!
The best reason to upgrade is probably if you have to much expendable cash and you want to see a really cool UI.
Sounds like world of warcraft got boring in 2006?

Does Dell give you achievement points for this?
Do i get points for running IE7 instead of Firefox? I better boot my other partition ...
Wow I can use this to find someone that matches my student card. With any luck they'll know a little about mappings to NP hard problems.
Bring on the remixes ... a little star wars kid action and we got a serious music video!
