I have not ever worked on OS/2 ever, I have worked in the banking IT for some 6 yrs now. Though I understand the complexity of the systems and difficulties in moving on to new/better/different technologies, its difficult to understand their total refusal to move out of OS/2 world.
So, at least this should prompt them to think about something new.
Lesson: Do it missionary style if you get a chance, or somebody will do it to you in doggy style.
I used to do that. But the problem sometimes is that the reviewers are just ignorant bastards - specially if the product is a bit 'geeky' - e.g. wireless music reciever. So, you may get a skewed idea on the product - either positive or negative. Then I switched to cNet reviews (whenever available - mostly, you should find some user feedback on cNet for electronics stuff anyway). cNet userbase is more 'informed' (at least more than amazon), and hence, you may get a better review there than amazon. But sometimes, even cNet feedback are naive.
But in general, yes, nothing like getting an end user feedback on a prodcut.
BTW, the product descriptions (on amazon and otherwise) always suck. Instead of what the product CAN DO, you will find how amazing it is without any real information.
Yes, they bothered me that bad. I dont care if its 'registered' or not. Do I have to register Firefox to avoid ads? NO! Do I user firefox for free? YES!
And well, I am not bothered by ANY ads anymore, there is something called Adblock in Firefox? Oh wait... which browser you use? Never mind...
BG: What, Firefox has a critical flaw? They are hogging all media attention for that? Fuck that. Hey tech team, how many more IE vulnerabilities have not been reported yet?
Tech team: 349 that we know of, SIR!
BG: Good. All critical?
Tech team: ALL CRITICAL, SIR! YES SIR!
BG: Good. Hey PR team, take the first 10 of them, contact some security firm and 'leak' them.
PR: YES SIR!
BG: Now we will see what firefox is going to do about this.
Even if you dont remember the movie name, you can try searching for plot/key phrases!!
e.g. searching for Future world (or google "movies: future world") comes up with a decent list, with "Twelve Monkeys" on 1st and "Minority Report" as second!
I have worked for more than one big financial companies in last 2-3 years, and none of them have a single application supporting any browser other than IE!
In fact, it took me a while to get FF installed on my workstation.
But I have tried reasonably well to make applications I have developed compatible to IE as well as FF (and FF should cover most of the other browsers - considering it follows the industry standards).
It is painful to see that even people in the IT dept of such companies are not aware of FF or do not even want to try it.
Well, in a way, this (openoffice) is more like giving M$ taste its own medicine - or I would say poison!
M$ has long been copying other innovative/first-of-its-kind softwares, and marketting/selling them successfully to kill the origial ones. Now openOffice is doing the same - by giving similar/better/slightly less functionalities with familiar look-n-feel.
M$ has one more battlefront open to guard its fort ress now! Nothing sweeter than this!
Well, the arguments (pro/anti) which taks about creator takes it for granted that creator HAD TO create!! My question is - even if there was a creator, what forced/enticed/interested him to create anything at all?
It is kind of super-cause to the cause(creation) of the effect(the universe).
"Users are saying, 'I don't want to know all the nitty gritty details, I don't want to know the technical stuff, just let me do what I need to do on the Web'. They just want it to work," said Kohlberger.
OS/2 is big in banking.

It may give him some purpose in life.
Thank you very much, CNET.
Once, in my earlier days, I complained to the SA (in exact words): "The middle of those three computers there fails to boot".
The response was : "From left or right?"
I just answered her "Oh, from the right!" - just because I was in no mood of killing someone that day.
>>any person who is not the owner or authorized user of a protected computer
So, Joe Sixpack is not yet covered by this just because he does not know how to run a firewall - i.e. his is not a protected computer.
Typical BS.
Well, Media Tagger works wonderfully well with freedb.org. But yeah, for those rest 10%, this may be helpful.
Your fingers or eyes (what whatever part of your body they are going to use for authorization eventually) are in danger!!
