My take on time travel is that it is impossible. Here is my reasoning: the universe is constantly evolving, be it's wave function or thermodynamically. To move backwards in time, you have to reverse the state of the universe to that of your choosing. To do that, you have to do work. Think about the amount of energy necessary to move all particles of the universe 1 second to the past. Besides, you don't know the state of the universe, not because you don't have enough information, but on principle it is impossible to know (quantum mechanics). IANAP

Seriously, if somebody gets all huffy about somebody cracking a joke about their religion, they must not be that secure in their beliefs.
Well, at the end of the day, most of the believers are not sure at all on what they believe. This is not the question.
I have a problem with taxes exemption, circumcision of babies (they cannot consent), and all this crap. If we are allowed to make fun of it, maybe people will start to realize how crazy these beliefs are.
My opinion is that we (the whole secular world) should stop giving religion a high status. They are business, and should have to follow the rules.
Why not? Why should we not make fun of religion? Want to do anything, anything at all and not get busted? Say: my religion says I must do it... It is a "get out of jail" card. If we keep respecting religion as sacred and true, they will never mend. We should respect people. People beliefs are fair game, though.
We have 1 standalone equipment which uses linux. We chose to use gentoo for 3 reasons: 1. Customizable 2. Almost every library and application is available as source 3. Compiling things is the way to go. This may sound strange, but you do want to be able to compile things to run on your system. Not to make it quicker, but just because sometimes you will need an library or application that is not available in a package, because it is too new or something. Ubuntu, Debian and all the binary distributions make it a bit complicated for embedded hardware.
In short, basically it all about choice. If you don't need a certain feature, just leave it out (USE flags).
You have a point;). I really hope that my comment do not become true. But think about the average American. And just to be a bit pushy, did you notice how Europe has more fast internet penetration than the USA? I bet that this is not due to the telephone infrastructure...

I am sad to hear about BBC. What is really important is to gather information from more than one source, because then noise is reduced and the bias is easier to spot. But this is only feasible in a proactive approach from the citizen. It is very bad to have this happening on the "respected" news feeders, because the average people will take it as truth. I happened to be in USA at the time when Bush declared war to Iraq. Following the news on ANY other media anywhere in the world, it was clear that there was no WMD in Iraq, but taking the NBC coverage by the letter, one would believe that was in imminent danger.
I would say that he comes from USA. Did you see NBC or CNN lately? Compare the news there with international sites. You don't even need to learn a new language. BBC is in english, Deutsche Welle has a huge english portal, just to give some examples. Your news are being censored as effectively or more than in China. Sorry to say that.
A hard drive will not work on low pressure, because it uses the air and the spinning disk to create a cushion below the head. The head should never touch the plate.
At low pressure (a montain high enough) the cushion will not be strong enough and the plate and head are destroyed when they touch. AFAIK.
The size does not matter. Actually, a laser chip is really small. But the fact that it is infrared and tightly focused creates a hazard if you stare at it. I believe that lasers used in CD players are class IIIC, meaning safe for handling, but not for staring. At around 1mW, it is quite powerfull to actually burn your retina.
There is no nightmare. Most of distributions follow (basically) the same layout. I am able to manage gentoo, debian or suse without problems. It is a long time that I don't play with Slackware, but it was pretty standard as well.
If it can be seen once, it can be copied... When I get movies from the rental shop, it is half of the price if you bring it back the same day. So what do I do? I rip the nice DVD to my hard drive (thanks vobcopy) in mirror mode, bring the nice DVD back and come home, to enjoy the movie. Never mind copying it to another DVD. I just wanted to watch it as the original DVD was.
Can I just put this freak creation on the reader and start my ripping program? Of course I can. Where is the protection?
They will NEVER learn. Play nice to people, people will play nice to you.
Care to tell more information about this incident?
Stall is not that difficult to phisically sense, and if you know what you are doing, all the specs are there to tell you the attack angle and speed where you are SUPPOSED to stall.
Nop! In the begining, all movies had 4:3 ration. Then the television was invented. It had, of course, 4:3 ratio. The movie industries, feeling that they could loose customers in the theaters, "enhanced" their movies to 16:9 ratio, so that the original movie would not fit in the television screen anymore. It happens that, in reality, 16:9 ratio covers more of the human field of view. Now the television is evolving, going to 16:9. No darn bars anymore.

Maybe they will start censoring Mark Twain's work, too...
They don't learn, do they? What is wrong with this people?
Good call.

By the ethmological definition of the word, it means "person lacking professional skills" (wikipedia).
It seems that the frase is essencially correct.
Nice! Did you read Carl Sagan's "The demon haunted world"?
I recommend it.

Don't take it personally, it is just what I saw.

But you may disagree.
Yes, you can.
You can order with SuSE on-a-box, or without an OS entirely.
