I had a class that used VPython for a project...but that was an upper level physics course. Hopefully it will begin to take over in the science world, because we're still running FORTRAN. Not kidding.
(It's a tried and true language, which is hard to come by in science)
That's funny, when I bought my area-51m system a couple of years ago I thought it was an amazing advancement to put a normal desktop processor in a laptop! Sure, it makes a ton of noise, basically burns a hole in my desk, and sucks 2 batteries dry in 3 hours...but it's fast! And isn't that what we all really want, deep down?
It would be a little more legitimate if the cameras were using an optical zoom instead of a digital one...but once you're reviewing tapes and just going on the little bit of information on the record, I agree, it's pretty silly....But how else are they going to read the license plate, right?:p
On the bright side, it might make the less intelligent criminals (read: majority) overestimate the magical abilities of such things.
I don't know if anyone else had this, but Brio train sets were pretty awesome. Nice wooden pieces of track with wooden cars, coupled by magnets! Everyone loves magnets...probably explains why I'm a physics major today!
I'll also second the Lego vote...those two toys made my childhood worth it.
Sure, they made a computer out of rat brain cells taht could control a flight simulator...I'm afriad the future's not quite here yet though, folks...I kicked its ass in every game we played!
Except the music sucks, but if britney spears wants to strip in front of a stadium filled with "fans" then, well, that's America right? Good luck getting a stripper to do a dance for the love of the art;)
"Male-sterility can be introduced into the genetically engineered plants in order to eliminate the risk for spreading pollen. Thus, the plants developed by Aresa neither germinate nor set seeds unless..."
I can see the headlines now: everything was going well until some of the plants, which had some frog genes, randomly changed sexes and they began to spread uncontrollably, eating people as they went.
But think of the poor street vendors! We should pretend to be burly offical types (but clearly, not cops! that's illegal! Nobody honest would do that!)...and bully the RIAA to give them back!
I agree that the RIAA should not be allowed to push around a bunch of misinformed citizens just trying to make a couple bucks under the false pretense of authority. I think we should get a bunch of ex-marines or something, dress them up as street vendors, and go get those bootleg CD's back!...and then hide them before the RIAA sends godzilla (dressed as a cop) after us, I guess?
one of the suggested solutions:
"'sequestering' (storing) carbon dioxide, for example in the oceans, by removing it from the air for storage, or by improved ways of locking it up in forests "...why didn't we think of this before? Sweeping things under the rug works beautifully in bedrooms, right? So why not the whole world! Genius!
This subject hits pretty close to home here in Rochester, NY right now...a week ago there was an article in our school newspaper that the administration here might be planning a similar setup. I don't think it was through Napster however, but they may not have mentioned where the music would be from...
What I was worried about is if they're opening this legal (but not free) alternative to downloading as usual, are they cutting off the old methods? I'm afraid that they're opening one door and closing another behind us...after all, what does the RIAA care if we can get music at school? They just don't want us stealing any, so the closing of the old routes is what they'll be hassling the school for.
If my school gives me free music downloads, are they going to start plugging up my ports and strangling the network? If so, I'm not looking forward to it.

Electrical Engineering, of course. Pretty brutal way to go through school, though! I'm not sure I know anyone who was able to do it in 4 years.
/ducks
That said, I'm Physics/Math. Compsci is for suckers!
Is this going to outdate vPython now? If so, do you think we'll see an update any time soon?

And don't blame me...I voted for Kodos.
We care very much about winning legally and with every vote being counted...if the other guy looks like he might have an edge!

Gotta love a good flamewar! Burn baby, burn. ...and vote Kerry! I look forward to making my friends watch Farenheit 9/11 on TV.
Oops, silly preview button. That link is a bit longer than it should be, and cut out the word "here". You guys know what I meant =P here it is again.
Turns out there's already been a lengthy discussion of this article in the context of motors for RC aircraft...I hate to slashdot my favorite website, but 's the thread [rcgroups.com] ...Skip to the end if you want to hear all the wonderful reasons it sounds like crap.
Hey, this could be my first p...::gets trampled::

I for one flatly refuse to contribute to this online "interweb" rubbish! You'll see no comments from me, thank you very much!
