I thought you could only get a ROKR through Cingular which meant you would have to sign a new 2 year agreement. I didn't look into it, but you could probably buy the phone from a Cingular store but they would've been marked up a lot without a contract. This seems like a lot of hassle, especially when you can't just walk in and buy something from their stores. You have to wait in line for someone to talk with you first.

This is on the level of the article a few days ago about US companies helping China and other countries with their Internet content-blocking abilities. My question is who in their right mind would work for a company that writes software limiting consumer rights?

I think this really boils down to greed, which is more and more the motivating force in capitalism today. Can't we all just get along, and go back to the days when innovation was that driving force? Some companies don't have any values or ethics these days and in this case probably saw a product they could market to these fascists. Maybe I should write my Congressman about making it illegal for US companies help deteriorate basic civil and human rights. Or maybe that advocacy group is doing just that.

I've been using Deer Park Alpha for a while, mostly because I have a Athlon64 and the only 64-bit version of Firefox is based on the alphas. Since then I've started using it at work also and haven't run into any problems. My favorite 'new feature' is that links, when clicked on, will now automatically open in a new tab, instead of opening in the current tab. This annoyed me to no end in previous versions.

  12. come on now on Space Penguin Could Hop Around The Moon · · Score: 1

Let's stop jack-a-lackin around and send some humans back to the moon, not another probe. If we could get there multiple 35 years ago, there should be nothing stopping us now.

It's time to end this conservativism in the space program and start taking risks again. I'm sure there are plenty of willing astronauts who would leap at a chance to man another mission to the moon. They know full well that every mission to space is a gamble with their lives. A mission to the moon is just a larger risk than LEO, but seems to cause the bureaucrats and politicians to freak out due to the recent shuttle tragedies. Which by the way wouldn't have happened if NASA were allowed to take risks and update their technology years ago.

Maybe I'm just an insensitive clod, but that's my 2 cents.

Authorities said they were able to get inside the warez groups involved in Operation Site Down only by deploying an undercover agent who developed relationships with members of the ring.
So what you're telling me is that the FBI can infiltrate these loose-knitted warez groups with ease. Probably months after Operation Site Down began. But neither they nor the CIA can get inside Al-Queda and find bin Laden after 3 years? Give me a frickin' break. Tells you something about the priorities in Washington today though, doesn't it?

  19. Re: cable vs. satellite on Cable TV Versus Satellite TV? · · Score: 1

We have Cox cable where I live which I get both broadband and cable tv from. I've had nothing but problems from them. Disconnections about once a week, their prices keep going up, and to top it all off, there's nothing I can do about it because they are the only provider in town. Plus, living on the bottom floor of an apartment eliminates the use of a dish.

The truth is my father used to sell satellites, back in the day when they were 12-16 foot dishes so I just have to laugh at the cable companies that do this. I see these commercials all the time talking about how much better Cox is than satellite when the fact is they use large dishes to receive some of their signals which is why they also can lose their signal in bad storms.
