    Microsoft would pony up a LOT more than 20K to get Hotmail back ... and/or spend that much on lawyers too.

    Yea, I RTFA'd ... and while it talks about command line options, I couldn't seem anywhere it talks about converting a set of JPEG to MPEG. Surely there is some way to do something like convert *.jpeg output.mpeg similar to what one can do with the Imagemagick "convert" command ... but that only seems to support MPEG2 and I'd love to get the better video codecs for higher quality and smaller size output which it appears this has. TIA.

    For those interested in more details about the GEM car and some MUCH better pictures than the small ones in the BBC article, here's GEM's web site.

    Ironically, the Wikipedia Blobject article says it "needs to be cleaned up to conform to a higher standard of quality. This article has been tagged since April 2005" - you'd think that all those "hip" Blogject'ers would have made this entry super cool and happening.

    Ben Edelman has been writing about *&^%$#@! spyware for quite some time and not only provides information and actual video's of how these guys operate, but also untangles some of the financial backing of the companies and VC who are behind 'em.

    The Big Green Guy ought to pay a visit to the spyware companies and do a World Wrestling Federation Hulk Drop on 'em! ;-)

    For reasons unknown (but this is /.), someone modded you "Offtopic" Andrevan - I don't have any mod points to push it back up to +5, but it was a nice writeup - a lot more interesting than say, watching grass grow - and a good historical roadmap of what Google was up too - thanx for posting to K5 and congrats on showing up on Slashdot also.

    I'm sure this is a contributing factor to this dupe since the /. Editors aren't able to do their exhaustive searches for dupes that they normally do, plus I'm sure they are busy fixing the broken search functionality ... ;-)

    I've read several articles about this legislation, but there is very little information about electronic records. I see a a brief mention about "discarding a computer's hard drive" ... but what about online record keeping? I gotta believe there is a cottage industry that provides web access for folks to track their hired help - who is liable if that becomes public? And what happens if someone hacks into your computer?

    The blogging article was on the front of page B1. In the same issue, Glenn Reynold's from InstaPundit.Com had an op-ed piece published titled "We the (Media) People" that also talks about blogging and it's affect on mainstream media. Glenn has this link on his site which appears to work for folks without a WSJ subscription.

    I kinda doubt that Hulk's Blog is going to go Corporate ... ;-)

    For those trying to determine if the submitter owns the site and/or is involved in the Contageous Media Showdown, the whois info is presented below. I actually thought it was a clever idea on their part to submit to (and get accepted by) Slashdot - I bet all the other participents (I'm not) are jealous they didn't think of it earlier! ;-)

    At least Wikipedia isn't being defaced/spammed as it was in one of those earlier SEO contests. It would be pretty funny if after all this publicity, they went ahead and DID publish a magazine. Read more of their thoughts in their blog.

    BTW, I noticed that Hulk's Blog isn't listed.
    Hulk might have to SMASH 'em! ;-)

    For the Star Wars fans out there who don't RTFA, this was at the bottom: " Note: I said this is not necessarily the last of the "Star Wars" movies. Although Lucas has absolutely said he is finished with the series, it is inconceivable to me that 20th Century-Fox will willingly abandon the franchise, especially as Lucas has hinted that parts VII, VIII and IX exist at least in his mind. There will be enormous pressure for them to be made, if not by him, then by his deputies.

    The article is from the Huffington Post the "blog of various mainstream media celibrities" which launched today. Impressive that they make Slashdot outa the gate - sounds like the lines are blurring even more between the traditional MSM media and the new online media. It will be interesting to see if they are able to maintain the daily grind of interesting articles ... or if they eventually becomes as exciting as watching grass grow ;-)

    Slashdot has discussed "Power over Ethernet: IEEE 802.3af" and how the Apple AirPort Base Station supports POE. There also appears to be a website dedicated to Power over Ethernet. Ummmmm ... maybe I could use POE to power my christmas lights ... although I'd need a bit more than 15 Watts! ;-)

    The commmunism article is dated July/2000 and the cancer one is dated June/2001 ... so I guess Balmer (who is quoted in the TechWorld article and here's the actual Microsfot Press Release) has changed his mind after 5 years ... I guess with regards to Linux, maybe he feels that if you can't fight 'em, then join 'em.
