Submitter: It leaves one to wonder what would have happened a few years ago when Hotmail expired. Would Microsoft have been stuck? Or would they be doing what I've been asked to do: pony up 20k to get my domain back!"
Microsoft would pony up a LOT more than 20K to get Hotmail back... and/or spend that much on lawyers too.
Yea, I RTFA'd... and while it talks about command line options, I couldn't seem anywhere it talks about converting a set of JPEG to MPEG. Surely there is some way to do something like convert *.jpeg output.mpeg similar to what one can do with the Imagemagick "convert" command... but that only seems to support MPEG2 and I'd love to get the better video codecs for higher quality and smaller size output which it appears this has. TIA.
For those interested in more details about the GEM car
and some MUCH better pictures than the small ones in the
BBC article,
here's GEM's web site.
Ironically, the
Wikipedia Blobject article
says it
"needs to be cleaned up to conform to a higher standard of quality.
This article has been tagged since April 2005" - you'd think that all
those "hip" Blogject'ers would have made this entry super cool and
happening.
Ben Edelman has been writing about *&^%$#@! spyware for quite some time and not only provides information and actual video's of how these guys operate, but also untangles some of the financial backing of the companies and VC who are behind 'em.
The Big Green Guy ought to pay a visit to the spyware companies and do a World Wrestling Federation Hulk Drop on 'em!;-)
BAH, Hulk wonder why this is "Stuff that matters"... definately "News for Nerds"
Hulk suggest maybe Puny Human submitter utherdoul trying being UnderDog
Hulk say lotta work/money to be Puny Human Batman

For reasons unknown (but this is/.), someone modded you "Offtopic" Andrevan - I don't have any mod points to push it back up to +5, but it was a nice writeup - a lot more interesting than say, watching grass grow - and a good historical roadmap of what Google was up too - thanx for posting to K5 and congrats on showing up on Slashdot also.
Slashdot Search has said for a few days: "search is down at the moment. Until it's back up, you may wish to search Slashdot through Google"
I'm sure this is a contributing factor to this dupe since the/. Editors aren't able to do their exhaustive searches for dupes that they normally do, plus I'm sure they are busy fixing the broken search functionality...;-)
I've read several articles about this legislation, but there
is very little information about electronic records. I see a
a brief mention about "discarding a computer's hard drive"...
but what about online record keeping? I gotta believe there is
a cottage industry that provides web access for folks to track
their hired help - who is liable if that becomes public?
And what happens if someone hacks into your computer?
The blogging article was on the front of page B1. In the same issue, Glenn Reynold's from InstaPundit.Com had an op-ed piece published titled "We the (Media) People" that also talks about blogging and it's affect on mainstream media. Glenn has this link on his site which appears to work for folks without a WSJ subscription.
I kinda doubt that Hulk's Blog is going to go Corporate...;-)
For those trying to determine if the submitter owns the site and/or is involved in the Contageous Media Showdown, the whois info is presented below. I actually thought it was a clever idea on their part to submit to (and get accepted by) Slashdot - I bet all the other participents (I'm not) are jealous they didn't think of it earlier!;-)
At least Wikipedia isn't being defaced/spammed as it was in one of those earlier SEO contests. It would be pretty funny if after all this publicity, they went ahead and DID publish a magazine. Read more of their thoughts in their blog.
BTW, I noticed that Hulk's Blog isn't listed.
Hulk might have to SMASH 'em!;-)

For the Star Wars fans out there who don't RTFA, this was at the bottom: "
Note: I said this is not necessarily the last of the "Star Wars" movies. Although Lucas has absolutely said he is finished with the series, it is inconceivable to me that 20th Century-Fox will willingly abandon the franchise, especially as Lucas has hinted that parts VII, VIII and IX exist at least in his mind. There will be enormous pressure for them to be made, if not by him, then by his deputies.
Here is the DiHydrogen Monoxide FAQ... but I could not find one for DiHydrogen Dioxide which (as previousely noted) might be what they are calling "Super-oxygenated water"...
The article is from the
Huffington Post
the "blog of various mainstream media celibrities" which launched today.
Impressive that they make Slashdot outa the gate - sounds like
the lines are blurring even more between the traditional MSM media
and the new online media. It will be interesting to see if they
are able to maintain the daily grind of interesting articles...
or if they eventually becomes as exciting as

For those interested in the recent related Slashdot stories that are very
relevent to OpenRAW's efforts, there was discussions
last week
and also
this weekend
about Nikon encrypting the white balance information.
Michael Reichmann asks a rhetorical (IMHO) question of
Do You Really Own Your
Own Raw Files.
The
commmunism article is dated July/2000 and the
cancer one is dated June/2001... so I guess Balmer (who is quoted in
the
TechWorld article and
here's the actual Microsfot Press Release) has changed
his mind after 5 years... I guess with regards to Linux, maybe he
feels that if you can't fight 'em, then join 'em.

I guess someone named Hulkster might be able to do that as a "Big Green Monster" ... but even The HULK can get a hangover and not feel so good the next morning ... ;-)

Or optionally, if you happen to come across a finger in your Wendy's Chili, can you use that to watch their DVD collection?
But clicking on the submitted link is worth it just for the headline picture and the funny caption.

Slashdot has discussed "Power over Ethernet: IEEE 802.3af" and how the Apple AirPort Base Station supports POE. There also appears to be a website dedicated to Power over Ethernet. Ummmmm ... maybe I could use POE to power my christmas lights ... although I'd need a bit more than 15 Watts! ;-)
Enjoy my fun little christmas hoax - help me do it for real in 2005! ;-)
