Run PlanetSide, Half-Life 2 and still allow me to interact with the rest of the world, then maybe we have a deal. At the moment Best Buy doesn't have a Linux games section or a Linux hardware section. i won't switch to Linux until those sections are AT LEAST as big as the Mac section. Until that happens, Linux is a toy for computer nerds, not a windows replacement. OO.o isn't ready to replace MSO. Also, which Linux? There are dozens of flavors of the month. The ubiquity of Windows allows me to be competent with 90+% of the machines i'll ever encounter in the world. The Linux community needs to dump the flavors and focus their efforts on ONE distro. i don't want to have to relearn how to use a computer when i go from one machine to the next.
i desperately want to switch to some Linux, but it just is not ready. Stop saying it is.
This isn't insightful, it's a deliberate misinterpretation.
Words have different meanings when used in different contexts and in certain combinations. 'Drug user' has a specific meaning and it NOT what you described and you bloody well know it. This is as inane a comparison as saying "vegetarians kill animals when they wash their hands with antibacterial soap".
What ever it is that you're smoking should be passed to the left.
It's obvious isn't it? If the kids are enjoying it, they aren't working. If they aren't working they aren't learning! One can't learn while having fun, i know this because i'm very smart and educated and i loathed every minute of school. It was good enough my parents, it was good enough for me, and dagnabbit, it's good enough for kids today.
All sarcasm aside, having learning being fun might prevent them from learning discipline. The discipline that it takes to do things you find boring so you can make a living. i'm not sure if that is a good lesson or not, but most people don't enjoy their jobs. If they did, they'd have to pay to go to work.
It's not capacitors, but it is similar. Lasers have an "active medium" that stores light energy, some media can hold more of a charge than others. You can keep pumping in more and more energy and then release it in a pulse. They measure the beam by how much energy comes out during the pulse. Imagine making a shotgun shell, adding one gain of powder at a time. When you fire it, the energy all comes out at about the same time, creating tremendous power.
That's a layman's explanation given to me by a laser engineer. i work for a company that makes lasers, my cube neighbor just explained to me how it works.
So you're up to date on the new stuff. There are a few things in the works. Not sure any of it will matter. Merging Markov and Emerald would stave of the final death for a few more months. The battles just aren't like they used to be. My outfit used to have 90+ troops on a raid night, we're down to about 30ish. i'm hoping something comes along to replace it. MMORPGs are just too much work and all the stuff i mentioned initially were a turn off for me.
The new CE and hacking stuff is pretty awesome. They just need more folks playing. i think they should have a free subscription were you can have only one character, or you're capped at BR 10 or somesuch.
Heh, Gunuku... appropriate name for a conversation about PS.
i won't touch Vista, so i don't know from experience, i've heard it has some trouble. Some of my guys do use Vista. i've never heard anyone having trouble with new hardware, only with old. Hmm.
As for development, what was the last addition for the game before you left? i can tell you what's changed since then.
Unless Charlton fell out of the sky onto, or punched, or threw something at sci-fi... he had no impact on it at all. He might have produce some effect on it.
Online diaries to share your daily drama with friends and strangers. That's it.
If you are writing something for a living, it's not a blog entry, it's an article. Journalists write articles or stories. Analysts write articles and reviews and white papers. Angsty kids write blogs. Using a blog like interface or posting daily, does not make it a blog. The nature of the content makes it a blog.
There is a tendency to over- and misuse buzz words. Blog is one of the worst culprits.
If you are looking for a game with very little grinding, no farming, no twinking, no buying in virtual stuff with real money, 100% PVP, that values skill over not having a life and cooperation over soloing, i recommend PlanetSide. It's a sci-fi MMFPS. Instead of straight jacket classes, you have certifications that you can load and unload if you want to switch from being ground vehicles, to aircraft to ground pounder. Higher level characters have access to more items and vehicles, but it the same stuff a lower level character can have. Levels give you wider choices. My Lasher does as much damage as your Lasher. Three empires engage in a 24/7/365 war for territory that spans continents (islands, really). Give it a try, if you want something radically different.
If you live on the east coast, sign up for the Emerald Server, join the Vanu Sovereignty and look for Ghosts of the Revolution on Thursday night at 730pm Eastern. Ask for N1H1L.
You're forgetting the W. is still president. Which means he's still CiC, therefore the military, all who are in it, and all that it does is evil. Because W. is the anti-Elvis and the worse than Hitler, Saddam, Bin Laden and Bill Gates combined.
Phone calls happen in cyberspace, as do chats and fora. Not sure it's as dead as you think. The 3D visual representation of the internet as a video game... yes, that's prolly dead. But that isn't what cyberspace means.
Given that everything is unique, it's pretty pointless to point out that something is unique. Unique is not a synonym for special or interesting (contrary to dating website profiles). Furthermore there are no degrees of unique, it's binary and absolute. Something is either unique, or it is not. There is no such thing as kind of unique or very unique. In the case of physical objects, whatever it is... it's unique.
Don't forget the case modding scene or the build it yourself machines. My case is a sleek lian-li. The mac fanboi myth of the beige box died a decade ago. It's mac that rules the roost of monotony now.
Until i found out he was SELLING it. A clever kid writing a program to solve a 'problem' or to learn, is one thing, but selling this thing is completely different. Throw him under a tauren stampede.
Winners don't bot and botters don't win.
It would be nice to have an open standard that allows people to create animated crap that doesn't require slurping from the adobe teat. Something any browser could run, with, or maybe even without a plugin.

The answer is: none. None more black.
AFAIK these aren't robots, but remote controlled moving turrets. /Still waiting for PACRATS

"Furthermore, America doesn't equal the USA, it's two continents. "
No, the two continents are called THE AmericaS. North America + South America = The Americas. Not America.

If Venus doesn't have a spinning core, we could just drill down and set off some nukes to jump start it again!

It should be a feature of a more robust site like FaceBook.

You can get all his stuff for free as in beer and as in libre.
Oh, and he's damn good, so he's got that going for him.

Offtopic, but a genuine question: Why does it take so long for news to reach /.? What is the delay?
It has nothing to do with fidelity, it's just wireless internet.
There's a difference. Mainly because they won't shut up. It's a tool and a toy, not a lifestyle or philosophical statement.
