Yeah good point. It took me a few seconds to clue into what you were getting at but you must understand that I did not get the Metroid demo with my DS;)
With the exception of Mario 64, none of my six games really make use of the touch screen in that way and I actually prefer just using the D-pad for controlling Mario.
I have no problems seeing the screen in games like Kirby or Meteos which both use the stylus and in both cases I don't really bother with the top screen.
My PSP was was far more cumbersome when I had it in the metal case that I bought for it. I actually find my DS _more_ portable.
Nintendo does have a great list of games coming out but it is not like Sony is hurting at all either:)
With games like Pursuit Force, Virtua Tennis, GTA and Burnout for PSP and Mario Kart, Castlevania, Super Mario and Metroid on the DS, this winter season is going to be probably the most interesting time handheld gaming has ever seen.
I own a DS as well and must agree that the second screen really has done nothing for the experiece for me. The touch screen on the other hand has actually made for some great gameplay. I couldn't imagine Meteos without it and who ever thought I would actually enjoy a Kirby game.
Maybe I am wrong but I don't think Sony really has many Infrastructure enabled games. Twisted Metal and that new Virus game and a few others but really the majority of "online" games that Sony has are local wifi only... the same as Nintendo.
Comparing the two of those I would actually say Sony falls behind as most of the Nintendo games require only one cart. Hell Meteos even has the ability to upload a full working demo of the game to another ds. Granted it is local wifi and not a global internet thing but it is still cool.
Maybe I'm way off base here but I would wait and see what the Nintendo online service is like once it ships this fall to make a fair judgement.
I had a psp and thought it was great... at first. It may sound somewhat foolish but one of the main reasons for me getting rid of it was that it was almost too good. I was always handling it like a baby for fear of wrecking it. I looked beautiful but felt so fragile. Maybe it was just me.
The other reason I ended up selling it was, and this will sound weak, the fact that it took a long time to load games. If I was playing Ridge Racer and wanted to switch to Tony Hawk it would just take what felt like ages to load. It got to the point where I would just say fuck it and leave the current game in the system.
These issues don't really bother me at all with the DS that I picked up afterwards. Now if only it had an analog stick...:/
Funny... in order to get linux to install on my sony laptop I had to do a network install as I have not yet found a distro that will see the cdrom drive when booting. Beyond that the pcmcia wifi card that I had would never work properly in linux.
FreeBSD on the other hand could be installed off of the cdrom drive _and_ the wifi card worked without issue.
Linux is not bad but at the same time it is not the be all end all as most will have you believe.
I'm not sure the movie would really be enjoyable if they put it out on dvd without remastering it. I have the definitive collection on laserdisc which contains the original theatrical trailers. The trailers quality is honestly pretty bad. While I do like the overall orginalness of them, I don't know if I would really want to watch the movies if they were that quality. Who knows though, maybe they would have been somewhat presentable.
I would love to have the originals on DVD cleaned up like the Indiana Jones trilogy but the decision to do this is obviously not up to me.
Keep in mind that getting all pissy about him releasing updated versions will probably not get you anything but stress you do not need. It is easier to just not buy them when released if you feel stongly enough about it.
Personally I found the comment both funny and insightful but I suppose that is beside the point.
There is so much bitching going on here about Lucas not releasing the original versions on DVD. I for one would love this as well but I do have to wonder about some of the posts being made. The claims that Lucas is screwing us all for more money doesn't really make sense seeing as how this is the first release of the Trilogy on DVD.
I think we all know it will happen eventually as new medium/media becomes available but that is to be expected is it not?
There are plenty of other movies that have been released several times on DVD (Stargate, Terminator 2, anything "Criterion"), this is nothing new and has literally been going on for years now.
Is it really worth getting mad about the possibilty that there _might_ be another release of this _movie_ on DVD one day even though nothing has been announced as of yet?
The main thing that will get to me about this release is changing Boba Fetts voice. Was this really necessary? Could they not have just added a scene in episode 3 where his throat gets punched or something?;)
As far as packages for Linux distros is concerned I honestly prefer the slackware packages over any other.
One time I tried upgrading gnome using packages and for whatever reason the newer version was not working quite properly (it was unofficial packages but I thought it was worth a try). I wrote a quick shell command and it uninstalled all new gnome packages and reinstalled all of the older ones. No complaining about dependencies (I know... --force or equiv for others) and it was all handled so cleanly and easily.
Perhaps I am biased because slackware was the first distro that I used nearly 10 years ago now but it is easily my favourite still and I have tried many other distros over the years:)
I certainly hope not. If this is truly this persons view then perhaps it is time to get up from the computer, go outside and do something not computer related.
Anything.
If you believe that Microsoft is more harmful to people than "lousy working conditions in some third world country" then maybe your anti-microsoft sentiments are getting to be unhealthy.
I am no expert in this matter but a friend of mine has worked in the graphics industry (mostly with movies and TV shows) for several years now and from what I have learned from him a lot of modelling is done using 3DS Max and as well a lot of work is done in Maya.
What I was trying to say is maybe MagiQ might have been better off saying their quantum crypto system is "currently the best there is" as opposed to saying their system is "100% secure".
Once quamtum computers are the norm, might there be a possibility that someone will find a way around their security system?
I will be the first to admit that I am somewhat ignorant in this matter. My understanding is that current crypto systems rely on the fact that keys take an extremely long time to be brute forced because currently computers are not efficient at all at factoring.
As I mentioned before I am ignorant when it comes to this but doesn't it seem a little naive to say that their technology is 100% secure? I read the pdf and it sounds impressive but I still don't know about anything really being 100% secure for all time.
There is a highway here (401 south) that often has accidents on it and has been referred to as the "killer highway". One time some girl fell asleep while driving her friends home and unfortunately they all died. The blame was put on the killer highway. So typical. Place the blame elsewhere. Obviously what happened is the highway started singing a lullaby when the driver was least expecting it.
Hopefully this system helps as accidents do happen too often with a sleepy driver being at fault.

I bike as well most often due to problems with one of my knees.
What I have found though is that rollerblading works very well and it does not have the same negative impact on my knee(s) that running/jogging does so if you are looking to try and alternative...

they never should have cancelled MacGyver.
Now we are all doomed.

I for one would love to see this but I just don't know if it would feel quite right without John Candy.
I suppose he could get around this with a prequel though.
They re-recorded all of the ewok dialogue using Temuera Morrison to draw some attention away from Boba Fetts all new New Zealander accent.
Was I the only person who was completely shocked to see Sal spell "doubt" correctly?

Where is Gary Kurtz when you need him?
deja.com was bought by google a year or two ago and the URL now brings you to google groups.
That is odd.

I could be wrong though
I was under the impression that quantum computing might bring the power needed (factoring) to give people the ability to brute force RSA, 3DES, etc...
So wouldn't that make the secure transfer of the keys somewhat pointless?
To clear things up a little...

How is this any different that setting your threshold on slashdot blocking out content that you care not to see?

How about Licrosoft?
I know.. it's the OS, not the company.
