"Finally, Walmart has a data center unofficially called Area 71 in Caverna, Missouri which holds over 460 trillion bytes of data."
Who the hell measures their storage in bytes these days? I'm guessing they also boast the world's largest Commodore 64 cloud infrastructure to power this data center.
Agree completely. First I wanted a Nook Color. Sorry, not in Canada. Then I wanted a Kindle Fire. Sorry, not in Canada. If Kobo can get this thing selling in Canada, they might just get my hard earned money just to save me jumping through fire-ringed hoops to get one of the others.
I would assume the Canadian company Kobo would be selling this in Canada;)
You have basically described my situation in the past regarding the Nook and now the Kindle Fire. Even if I get the Fire when it comes out, it would be severely lacking in content so the Kobo offering is much more appealing to me.
Even if I had the 25Mb/sec down that Bell offers in Canada, I would still be limited by the fact that they have something like a 75GB/month cap. So I would be able to watch 2 movies a month and then be forced to pay more for data usage.
The problem I have with buying an extended warranty on a mac is that they are already charging a premium for the hardware. If they expect me to pay that then I expect them to deliver a product that is engineered to last. We all know they are using fairly standard pc hardware now though so that expectation is a little unreasonable. I suppose it's for this reason that I have a problem with being expected to pay an additional $200 so my overpriced hardware is covered should something go wrong... or maybe I'm just cheap.
But we didn't get the Kindle in Canada. I know it's only speculation but I'm guessing it's because Robbers Wireless wouldn't budge on their ridiculously over inflated prices.
I shouldn't have waited to sign up for my/. account...
My first account was on Rob's Linux page at cs.hope.edu/~rmalda or whatever it was. The one where he had the faked transparent rxvt with the checkerboard background;)
I too still have boxes of old slack floppies in the basement and for some reason I just cannot bring myself to throw them out. I'm pretty sure none of them will work anymore... I mean if you used to look at a floppy the wrong way it would break. I'll save them and pass them on as family heirlooms or something. That way the wife won't nag about getting rid of them haha;)
No, unlike you we understand human nature and the nature of those in power. Only the naïve and stupid think that things will not be abused or that those in power should be blindly trusted at all.
I actually managed to fully upgrade from breezy (5.10) to dapper (6.06) without having to wipe the system. Of all the distros I have tried I have never used (IMHO) one that had such a painless upgrade process for major revisions.
I tried paint.net a while ago and it was ok. Might be worth checking out. I don't know if they are going to charge for the final version or not but at least this is free in the meantime... as long as you don't mind the expiry crap.
How can this do anything but benefit Microsoft? The 360 will be the only next gen system available this xmas season. Selling the 360 bundle for $399 instead of $299 will only get them more money (obviously).
I don't think people are being scared off from the 360 because it is $399 when there are many rumours floating around that the ps3 could very well be $499.
What is to stop Microsoft from lowering the price to match $299 once the ps3 starts shipping?
The truth is that nobody knows at this point. I think it would probably be a wise decision to just wait until March (or whatever the date may be) until all three consoles have all been released. This way you get a chance to see what the games will be like for each system before committing to a system.
I say this because I know a few people that are just dying to get the 360 at launch and I cannot see how waiting a few months will hurt them.
Trying to get a job at a new company and using a certification as your only asset is weak as the employer really has no idea what went into getting it. For all they know you took 2 days and studied a book but had no hands on training/experience in the relevant subject at all.
I think the real difference shows when you are already working at a company and start working on getting certified. It shows them that you are still interested enough in what you are doing to take personal time to keep learning.
I have worked with people that believe that work is where you do anything related to work so when they go home the only thing they care to do is play games. When it came time to do internal hiring/promotions they were not considered to be serious candidates.
Unfortunately for them they were the first considered when it came time to do layoffs.

You missed out on TIE Fighter.
I hope they at least release X-Wing and TIE Fighter on Steam before shutting down. To this day TIE Fighter is still one of my favorite games.

Best of luck and thanks for all the wasted time!
BTW, are those real transparent rxvts on your afterstep page? How?!? (sorry, had to be asked... again ;) )
I wonder if the system that was compromised contained the credit card data they have stored for the PSN accounts.
Firefox might have to do that same trick that Slackware did when it was at version 4 :)
The time I spent reading that list was one of the lamest tech moments of 2010 for me :/
I much preferred the last one, Return of the Jedi to the Empire Strikes back.
How is this not modded up Funny?

Something interesting to note is that competition normally benefits the customer, doesn't it?
I think this is the first time I have seen the prices go up because of competition. Weird times.
They would probably have banned the use of the toilet on planes.
Or they could make every seat on the plane a toilet...

iFucking bought it.
iFucking own it.
End of story.
sftp...
Why use that when you can be funny and:
cat file | ssh user@remotehost "cat > new_filename"
or maybe tar up a directory on the fly and send it to the remote host for fun?
tar cvzf - directory_to_tar | ssh user@remotehost "cat > tarfile.tar.gz"
Funny thing is I waited to register too... big mistake apparently ;)

That is your ignorance telling you otherwise.

How did the PATRIOT Act come to be?
I actually managed to fully upgrade from breezy (5.10) to dapper (6.06) without having to wipe the system. Of all the distros I have tried I have never used (IMHO) one that had such a painless upgrade process for major revisions.
