  2. Re:My Experience with Provigil on 'Mind Doping' Becoming More Common · · Score: 2

I take Provigil on average about once a month, usually when I have a large amount of work to finish, and/or have to get up really early and be in a good mood in front of other people. It definitely does improve your workflow and disposition.

I haven't experienced any of the pain-related after-effects, but I do have trouble sleeping after taking it. I never take one past 6am, but can only generally manage a couple of hours sleep about 18-20 hours later. So the next day, I'm really tired, but that's the only negative and can usually be fixed with coffee.

Oh, and it makes your pee smell weird.

Isn't it equally likely that (since we was working in a quarry) his battery melted in his pocket, and the shock made him fall backwards onto a rock? Or off a rockface? TFA is sparse on details but if his spine was broken I would expect a fall to have been involved.

I'm surprised the essay doesn't even mention the worst part, which is how Apple is forcing people at gun point to buy their products, so even though there are all of those other options on the market, you have no choice but to be locked into Apple's platform decisions against your will.

  10. Ludicrously misleading title on Drugs Eradicate the Need For Sleep · · Score: 1
I got really excited when I read that. I have always said that if someone invents a drug I can take which means I don't *need* to sleep, I would be the happiest guy alive. Then I find out they're just talking about modafinil (a.k.a. Provigil) and other similar drugs.

I've taken modafinil on and off for years. It in no way eradicates the *need* for sleep, it just stops you feeling sleepy when you want to be awake and concentrating during the course of a normal day. But you still have to sleep, or your brain turns to porridge.

    Nothing to see here.
