The most effective defense against hijacking, and the reason why another one has not been attempted since 9/11, is vigilant passengers that will no longer cooperate with a hijacker.
While that is arguable, the most effective defence against airline hijacking would be to separate the cockpit from the passenger compartment with a solid wall.

Get two or three programmers to write a small application and you will find, sometimes, stunning differences in the way they achieved the same goal. Which to me implies that programming is something that is very creative and it is also very closly tied to the individual who wrote it.

I won't really comment on whether or not it's possible to rehabilitate people by sticking them in a building with others of their ilk, but it does make me wonder why such a high percentile of the populace is imprisoned in the United States...? What's the cause? Is it just economic factors?
I thought they looked like ass, if a pile of rocks is the most exiting thing to see in this mod I'll pass it by. As an AC already mentioned, too much light bloom (more cowbell perhaps?)
I don't know, that's all I could find based on a few Google searches. However, that being said I have cassettes from the late 70s that I still play on a regular basis that still sound pretty good (full range, little to no noise). Maybe I'm lucky because of where I live (Alberta), it's dry here and for the most part the most extreme temperature ranges my stuff will go through is between 17C and 35C outside of direct sunlight.
It has a very limited life. The audio qualiy is poor and it has a very inefficient size and shape
The "official" lifespan of a cassette is somewhere between 10-15 years. Though much like a compact disc it's longevity can be promoted through good storage.
Audio quality has a lot to do with the quality of the device that records and plays it.
I would argue that it's size and shape are actually quite efficient, considering that it contains moving parts and a few hundred feet of tape.
Personally, I find cassette tape handy for recording dictation and radio broadcasts.
I'd rather have the CBC bend over for cash and bring me something (anything?) to do with a show I have loved for decades then have them have no budget and see nothing at all.
At any rate web adverts have become so ubiquitous I kinda just tune them out.
Incedentally, I'd rather see movie tie-ins on tv commercials I can ignore rather than have product placement shots in the film itself.
Nothing is forcing you, if you want to pay an exhorbitant amount of money for some hard to find item you obviously place that value on it anyway and are justifying your purchase.
Anyway, if time never ran out when would bidding be over? When the seller decides? I don't think so.
Any movement that justifies the current state of Trek should fail.
Ok, flamethrower off...
Star Trek is like a burnt out rocker, it's been on the road for years, it's out of creative juice, it's just going through the motions. I say, let Trek rest up a few years, you know, like get some new material and come back stronger than ever!
I think possibly, you have inadvertantly made a very astute observation. One of the prevalent reasons Betamax "lost", was that early on VHS could record more on a single tape. This was an attractive feature for people using their video cassette recorders to tape 1/2 hr television programs, film home movies or duplicate film. Sony additionally handicapped themselves, as well, by not licensing their technology. They were ensuring that VHS would be more abundant in the marketplace. So to recap; Betamax failed because
I think there is more redundancy now that most of us can read / write and the act of transcription takes only a few seconds and costs less than 10 cents a sheet...

Something ate all the herbivore meat already...

And I extend many thanks the parent AC; "moderation" on/. of late has been shoddy at best, meta-moderation be damned...

NASA reviews the tapes and assesses whether or not the point of failure is avoidable or is an inherant flaw of the shuttle system.

Put them together and whoa! You get RegularOS!
By recently do you mean the last 150 years or so? The Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia was designed to be a model prison based on the idea of reform through solitude and reflection.

My 2 cents.
