Every time I read one of these, it confirms that there's no purpose in Slashdot anymore, but my muscle memory for the last ~12 years or so keeps navigating me to slashdot subconciously. Then when I figure out what I'm doing, I get all sad.
Anyone else in this situation?

The problem I see with this is: the messages typed into Yahoo! Messenger aren't typed in English, anyway. They usually look much more like this, and even people have a hard time reading them.
Wait, you mean you can't get modded +Smartass yet?
Mr. Tetzchner promised us that he would swim the atlantic should we download 1 million copies of Opera. When the moment of truth arrived, he pulled out the smoke and mirrors and backed out on the deal.
As a responsible CEO, Mr. Tetzchner must publicly address this scandal, lest he present an image of deception for his company.
I think by the "platform" they mean eclipse, and the submitter is just making sure that we know that it's open source. Consider the quote right after it that says "the Eclipse platform."
Ipso is not for PDAs.
While most people know Nokia as a mobile vendor, they are also one of the largest Firewall/VPN appliance vendors.
Ipso is a highly optimized i386 OS based on NetBSD.
Just because almost everyone who uses it on the desktop happens to have a neckbeard doesnt make it a bad desktop distro.
Where does this review say it's not for the desktop? It says it's not for everyone, which I certainly agree. But it makes a great desktop OS for its very niche userbase.
Uhh, the VAST majority of the nessus work was done by Tenable. I doubt I would call it "spitting in the face" of anyone. Also, the GPL does not allow Tenable to use code that has been contributed from third parties in future-closed source nessus. Only code that Tenable owns the copyright to (which happens to be something like 98% of the nessus code). All of the contributed code will not appear in closed-source nessus. So, I daresay that Tenable is spitting in the face of anyone.
I really hope the Gnessus project rethinks their name, as a fork they should really try to take a different name so as not to confuse users. Also, I'd hate for this to cause trademark/copyright issues down the road...

An anonymous reader writes "ESR, one of the finest engineers behind the open source movement.."
Nice try, ESR

EAL-1 what? http://www.commoncriteriaportal.org/products_OS.html#OS
Congrats, this is by far the most obnoxious comment that I have ever read on this site, and that's quite a feat.
Man, I just hope it's as good as Daikatana was!

When I want to read up to the minute tech news, I read digg. When I want to read good discussions of tech news, I read /.
Although the kernel webserver was removed in 2.6, there are a lot of people still running 2.4, which includes a webserver in the kernel.
No one enables it though, I'm just being a smartass.

They don't.
In Japan, they have Giant Pink Robots to watch TV for you.
Come on, it would be nice to have a security-focued open-source operating system.... ...that isn't associated with Theo De Raadt.

Wake me up when Nokia open-sources Ipso.
By chance, has Pixar recently made a lot of people very, very angry, including yourself?
Microsoft should just have Steve Ballmer fucking kill them.
They use this new sort of witchcraft called 'math,' along with arcane properties such as trajectory, velocity, etc.

With the Splogosphere maturing, we can expect to see Splogcasts in the near future.
