It's the usual act of opening the servers a day before the "official" launch date because some shops get their orders in quickly.
I guess companies see it preferable that people whine about having trouble creating accounts and experiencing broken content, as opposed to the whines about having to wait another day.

My bad. Please excuse my first post. I didn't see the hidden anonymous post, and thought you were referring to the grandfather post.
Here, have a dingo on me. Just add babies.

Do you know the difference between Australia and New Zealand?
In fact, Anarchy Online was one of the first, if not the first, MMORPG to offer a free trial.
The 'news' here is that the trial length has just been increased from 7 days to 14 days.
Oh, a thought; Anarchy Online is currently developing a new expansion pack titled "Alien Invasion". Might be some of the space travel you are looking for there (but don't expect to fly something like a Tie Fighter around).
Earth & Beyond would have been another recommendation, if it wasn't closing in September.
If Star Wars: Galaxies isn't what you are looking for (but hey, it fits into all those criteria you listed), try looking at the following:
Anarchy Online Neocron Eve Online
Anarchy Online would probably be the closest to what you are looking for. Though, I must say, the above titles are all set on one planet (unsure about Eve Online).
Aggro = Aggravation. Essentially, the amount of hate a creature has towards a player. The player with the most hate (hopefully a warrior or similar) will therefore have aggro.
DoT exists in just about all MMORPGs these days - but usually refers to a damage over time spell or status effect.
DPS is the damage done over time with a weapon (usually, but can be magic too) and is calculated in seconds. Basically, DPS is calculated by taking a time fram and seeing how much damage you can inflict within that time frame, and then rounding it down to a few seconds. It doesn't necessarily mean one spell going the whole duration (like a DoT).
I believe this kind of thing has happened once before. When Fallen Age was cancelled, Netamin made a deal with Mythic to allow fans of Fallen Age to move over to the Dark Age of Camelot beta.
This deal with Earth & Beyond is going ahead, no doubt, because EA also publishes The Sims Online and Ultima Online.
True, if you throw MUDs into the equation, then my brief little outline on generations takes a new turn.
I specifically left out MUDs, preferring to to talk about MMORPGs, as I'm sure that is what Sigil Games is talking about.
While I agree that AC1 is a superior game over AC2, I consider AC2 a second generation game because it really can't be lumped in with AC1 as first generation. Along with game mechanics and graphics influencing what a generation is, so must time.
Well, best to hold onto your horses for a little while yet. Quite alot of MMORPGs these days (and for the past 3 years or so) have a really great level of communication with the community in the developmental stages of the game. It's utopian stage of the MMORPG, where the each member of the community respects one another and the designers can do no wrong.
The real test of communication will come within the 3 months before release when the designers and coders are all working 18 hour days, and how the communication is maintained post-release when people are complaining about server crashes, login problems, and game imbalances, when all the designers and coders want to do is run away and sleep.
But I'm looking at the current mold of MMORPGs. I really do hope these guys can break that mold.
The Second Generation is already here, but with MMORPGs coming out every year, rather than a few at a time followed by a longer period of waiting, the lines between the generations will probably blur now.
Star Wars: Galaxies, Horizons, Final Fantasy XI, Dark Age of Camelot, Asheron's Call 2, Anarchy Online are all Second Generation.
There are only 3 main players in the First Generation: Ultima Online, EverQuest, and Asheron's Call.
How this MMORPG will be different from all of these past MMORPGs to warrant the cry of "Third Generation" will be interesting to see, but graphics are usually a main contribution to defining a Generation. I do wish (and hope) gameplay becomes more of a factor to base Generations on.
This is all very obvious. It just comes down to years of social engineering.
Americans excel at "shooting [and] logistics"
Years of gang warfare, drive-by murders and shooting to get the 'bling-bling' has provided Americans with unbeatable markmanship skills.
whereas Germans are best at "thinking [and] teamwork"
After the 2 World Wars, and having their Army, Navy, and Air Force taken away from them, the Germans have had to fall back on brains instead of guns. They regularly get together and team up for some beer and to try to take over the world again, only to pass out drunk.
the French come off best when using "reflexes".
These reflexes have been perfected through years of running away quickly and surrendering.
(All above comments made in jest, for those with a broken humour detector)

"Hero classes have yet to be put in as well, and blizzard won't give any information on them."
I'd say that's being kept for an expansion.
To be pedantic, COH beta'd in 2003, and came out in April this year.
WoW beta'd this year and will be released at the end of this month.
The rest system came out...oooh...around a couple of months ago.
So yeah, odd to mix them up, completely different game setting aside.
What other MMORPG has tons of polish?
I'll take that Anarchy Online, and raise you a World War II online.
Huh? No NDA-breaking info was said here.
Regarding your sig... It's dyslexia, not dislexia.
Ah, yes. B.Net's fabulous servers.
Not to mention putting item data on the client for it to be modified.
Yes, Blizzard has certainly shown it knows how to run online games.
There was no statement in the story that this was the first game with Hollywood actors. But yes, it is the first MMORPG to do so.
And besides, Wing Commander 3 - another game known for Hollywood actors - was before Kingdom Hearts.
Just wondering - in what capacity did you work at SOE?

If true, maybe "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" would be a useful training tool for the CIA and Department of Defense.
Er...and the article is here: http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2004/03/09/10785 94344830.html?from=top5
Of course software can kill. Just yesterday software reached out with it's cold clammy fingers and killed a gamer in China.
To get money to buy more RAM memory, use your PIN number at the ATM machine (Automatic Teller Machine machine).
