The truth is, Windows sucks. Its a peice of shit. Windows 32bit... should be dead. We should all be running 64bit windows, Not VISTA 32bit.

Microsoft is going to continue the 32bit mistake, with vista.

Microsoft has no balls when it comes to progress. They dont take risks. They worry about everyone running dos applications from 89. It's time they stop caring about 32bit, 16bit app support and cut the cord. Go all 64bit Vista, force the stupid hardware manufacturers to deliver 64bit drivers, and not 32bit drivers.

I'm tired of Microsoft. I really am. There is no innovation. They take forever to release an operating system, and its never anything new. Vista will have a new ui... and will require me to buy a new pc... yay. I hope it offers more than that...

    Linux isnt ready...

    The MAC is.

I've been saying this for a while, due to the success of IPOD... people have a perception of quality when it comes to Apple produc ts. They will pay more for it because they understand that it works better, and their IPOD was so dam cool.

Apple has balls, they really do innovate... Microsoft will do just fine with Vista, but many people will go Mac. I'll join them someday as well. I can not stand Microsoft products. Just look at Their media player attempt. Its garbage. Its version 11 and they dont have a good media player. Sure its trying to copy Itunes (quite poorly) but its a horrible video player. It has terrible playback controls and functions. Its a toy. Media Player Classic beat it years ago, as did winamp, and quicktime (on the mac) quicktime pc sucks). The dam media player is version 11. Version 1-10 sucked... 10 dam versions... and now 11... ? IT still sucks.

Microsoft does not make software will everyone in mind. They dont care what people need from their software... they design it, how they feel you should use it. Maybe thats why it takes them so long to code an os. They dont listen to the people yelling at the door... they ignore them and make whatever they want, and whatever the MPAA/RIAA want them to do. :)

Its apparent that Jobs was always correct about Microsoft. They steal ideas after they're safe to do, and they always do it poorly.

That is more true than ever, the evidence is 98, 98SE, Mill, 2000, XP, Vista, Media Player 11, IE etc. They are late to the party because they cant do it right... and it takes them forever to even get close.

I've had enough of this crap.

The fact that vista is 32bit is the last straw. Microsoft cant progress us into the future because they're a lame duck. They're holding back 64bit because the average user can get away with 32bit and 4gigs ram max, and a cripple ware os.

I dont think its our lack of ability to multi task. Our eyes can only focus on 1 point at any time.

The problem is when we're driving were in motion, surrounded by other vehicles. It's not that we cant drive and do something at the same time, its the problem of reacting to all of the other environmental hazzards while driving, while doing something...

A fighter pilot with a HUD can do plenty at once and has plenty of other displays within the cockpit to distract him. Luckily for pilots there isnt as much traffic in the air. So they can fly a little bit and not worry about some other guy hitting them.

And if another plane is in the airspace, an early warning will sound.

So multitasking isnt the problem.... The problem is being in an ever changing environment that is not predictable. For example if i use a few programs at once... I unzip a file, then go to read my email while another program loads.... I kind of know what i'm doing and what to expect.

When going at 70 mph you can not expect much. You have to bee aware of the ever changing environment that moves rapidily, usually faster than you realize.

I've looked to change lanes, only to look back at the car in front of me that is rapidly decreasing in distance because he slammed on his breaks for some reason.

Thats really in an instant of time pretty much. Its quite hard to multitask in that environment but i think in general we can multi task. Multitasking is stressful anyways. I want to slow down :)

while what you say is true... (i work in the game industry)

Yes developers keep making the same games over and over because they're affraid to create new ideas.

Risk... Are they affraid to take risks? Yes and no. Game developement has plenty of risk. Do you try to invent something new or bet on something with previous success. Its something the movie industry has been battling for years.

Look at the Wiensteins. They have produced and brought many movies to markets over the years. They generally are known for standing by their product. Sure some of their movies will bomb... some of them wont find a mass appeal audience... But generally they make good films that find their audience.

Do they care about making great films? Absolutely. They Bob and Harvey are die hard film fans. They love what they do. Do they have a responsibility to investors... absolutely. The Weinsteins have figured out how to be credible film makers because they bring new ideas, they welcome new ideas, they allow them to develope, they take risks, they keep their eyes open to the new talent around the industry and outside the industry (independent filmmakers)

They're bringing out a film about crossword puzzles... Not exactly your big budget summer film with explosions and "X" branded hot actor of the month... and Beyonce Knoles..

    hehe

The game industry needs Bob and Harvey Weinstein. People that will listen to someone willing to step up to the plate and say "I have the next great idea, please hear me out"

It used to be that we made games in our garage... we didnt really need the suits like we do now. Actually we really dont need the suits.

Developement costs are quite high, and oddly enough the artists making the games dont get much of it, nor do they get any profit sharing or any real stake in the game. Thanks to the suits.

Games still make plenty of money...

But as a game/film artist i dont make what i would call a fair share. Nor do i get to be very creative...

I have some friends who are doing their own thing... the old "garage" game... of cousre on a much larger scale and its a very antcipiated game...

It still is possible to do it... and they have plenty of interest from the industry suits who want to swoop in and rape it, take the profits etc.

    Thats the industry we're in.

The buisness side is holding it all back. The money pigs want a sure thing (understandable) but they're not willing to risk anything when it comes to new ideas, and a chance for greatness.

    Let me tell you... :)

Before Tony Hawk Pro skater was ever a reality... I wanted to do the idea and was told by a publisher that it would never sell...

Now its ok to make games like the SIMS... as long as its exactly like the SIMS but better.

You cant make a new idea like the SIMS was.... But you can make one thats just like the SIMS... but it has to be "better" because well.. why invest in makgin the sims when its already a game... And here we see the problem reveal itself within the dumb industries logic. It has to be better.. cause we cant make the game thats already out...

of cousre they almost always end up making the game thats already out.

FPS shooters are the same... I could make them far more interesting and better.... But whos gonna pay me the money to direct it?

There are so many ideas... but far too many suits stand in the way of ever giving them a chance.

You have to be a self made person for them to listen to you. But its quite difficult to be self made when game developement is a 24 hour job, and if you go it alone... you have no funds. It costs too much.

So is developement broken? yes. Games are made by people who like ot have fun. The second game developement no longer becomes fun and inventive.... creative... it's broken. And that is where we are.
