That assumes a lot. Particularly that whatever ISP (Earthlink?) they're buying dialin slots in bulk from even bothers with it. Why bother? The authentication is all based on the serial number hardcoded on TiVo's motherboard.

A low-end (say, a G4 iMac to do the initial encoding and send the audio stream to the QTSS box for mass distribution. Oh, and a few brain cells.

Ok, then, so just out of curiosity, do you place more blame on the agents for being shady, or for being incompetant? Same question regarding the judge(s).

By the way, I can't see myself messing with one of these RFID things for the near-term, but I've gotta say, better to wear it AROUND your wrist than INSIDE it.
Slashdot has posted several articles on how close we are to having strong enough material for this... But isn't part of the space elevator a huge-ass asteroid in orbit?
The servers hosting (and the bandwidth) those videos are probably comparable with the supercomputer itself just to handle all of us connecting to it...
And after reading this sort of thing, do we wonder at all why there are people in Homeland Security starting to flap their gums about regulating IT at a Federal level?
Don't we still have the right to make a backup of any software we buy? Is there anything ELSE that will run the TiVo software? (no) So why not be able to download it if you were stupid and didn't back up? (like me) So when my drive(s) crash, I get to frantically search for a backup somewhere or pay for a new unit when I could fix this myself...
We've all read on/. how a few companies whose identities were not released, paid SCO. Let's hope they nail SCO into the ground when the case is dismissed, if at all possible.
