    I don't think these court "settlements" slow this guy down at all. He was also successfully sued and ordered to pay $104,104 this past April. You can read about that case here. I am wondering if it is the case that he makes so much money sending spam that these fines and settlements are no more than the cost of doing business.

    I'm sure the fines are tax detuctable as well

    Yup, I didn't RTFA either but I did completely read the summary.. Well, maybe just more of it than you :)

    In an attempt to close this gap, we have just released Sphinx-4, a state-of-the-art, speaker-independent, continuous speech recognition system written entirely in the Java programming language.

    Why doesn't slashdot start it's own space program? We certainly have enough experts in the required areas of study to design and produce a working prototype. I'd also bet we could all chip in our lunch money to fund said projects.

    It's nice for release groups.. They only have to pass around a 10meg file with main execultables rather than a 1gig iso with a FAQ explaining how to download the game content from valve directly via steam.

    Does this overthrow the idea that we can cope with 10 items because we have ten fingers? Maybe fingers moulded the language which moulded our own capabilities. If we counted in base 100 would women finally remember their own mobile phone numbers? I've learned they do infat remember their own mobile phone numbers but it's just they don't want you or I to know it for obvious reasons.

    So where does one start? What allows a child to make those first connections which allow for complex thought? Sounds like the key to AI to me. Give a computer a dictionary and define say 10 basic words that all other definitions/concepts can be drawn from. Then it simply processes all new ideas/thoughts from it's predefined concepts.

    Try getting him to teach you anything like calculus, ethics, or theoretical physics without a common language. Simple manufacturing, plowing, or bucket-hauling are not "complex thought".
