I work at CompuSmart (compusmart.com), where I will gladly pimp^H^H^H^Hintroduce you to lots of Acer and Compaqs that are powered by Athlon XPs and Mobile A64's. Probably only helps you if you're in Canada, though.
The Acer Ferrari 3400 uses an AMD Athlon 64 Mobile, which sits in a 754-pin socket (source here). The dual-core sockets have 939 pins. Also, your Ferrari would overheat with a non-mobile S754 - nevermind a dual-core S939.
Speaking of foil - how come no one has commented yet regarding the horrible pun in the article's title? "House paint FOILS wardrivers". Jesus. He who would pun would pick a pocket.
My internet connection is often sporadic, and my watercooling takes up all of my 5 1/4 inch bays, meaning I can't afford space for an optical driver. (I installed over a network.) I'd say that not having to rely on a shitty ISP and not having to dangle a cd-rom out of the side of my case is a pretty good reason for installing a crack.
You'll be running all of those services over the 56K modem then i take it?:)
In all honesty, though, the cost of this box and the USB ethernet adaptors that you'll need will be roughly the same as a decent refurb IBM ThinkCentre (or some other equally small desktop PC) that will have WAY more power.
There was a similiar problem in the early 1900's - the (typically) female factory workers that worked on assembly lines for wristwatches painted the numbers and hands of the watch face with radium so it would be visible at night.
I think all overclockers realize it's a big pissing contest. On the other hand, when I go to a LAN party, having paid roughly the same for my box as everyone else yet having an extra ghz to show for it, it really makes the ol' PC-enis feel nice and hefty.
Even the high budget North American fare uses animation studios in Korea; as many already know, the Simpson's is animated in South Korea.
If you watch the season 2 commentary of the family guy DVD, in the episode where they make a reality TV show out of Peter's family, Seth makes a comment about how the bible that appears at the end of the episode is 'backwards' - that is, it reads right to left - apparently because "the show is animated in South Korea". Wonder if futurama and king of the hill are put together over there too?
Haha! I think I'd like an excuse to go buy a fancy mouse. But you're absolutely right - I wasn't saying an excessively button-endowed mouse was an acceptable solution to patent boondoggling. I was merely wondering if the interpretation of the patent covered double-click emulation functions - the text of the patent seems to indicate it's the physical mechanism, not the machine's undesrstanding of the mechanism, that's being patented.
Why, are you their lawyer?
It's a dupe - only NetCraft has the authority to issue confirmations.

Willie Sutton looks like G Man.

Stop using gentoo.
The scientists forgot to mention what the lethal range of these particles is! How are they going to secure funding for next year?
"If the atmosphere was 200 meters closer to the ground, these particles would trigger a mass extinction."
I can't even come up with an analogy to illustrate my point :-p
Say something about cars. It works for everyone else around here.
Just before the release of the video game.
My bad. I wasn't allowed to watch Transformers when I was a kid.
Optimus Prime has prior art, right here.

Never mind advertising. The retail store I work at (CompuSmart, in Canada) started carrying these in early November.

From TFP:
"And that's not all: We're supposed to get candidates' rebuttals on or about October 17, so don't touch that dial!"
I think you just touched the dial.
Like this?

Doesn't Quake III support SMP? I think Doom III might support it as well, in which case the dual cpu guy will be in good standing.

Only on slashdot does a Trekker call the captain of DS9 "Cisco" instead of "Sisko". :)
From the article:
.NET. Even some Java developers are now excited about developing on Windows.
Everyone I spoke to had positive things to say about
You must be new here!

Single- or double-tapping F6 in Windows will select the address bar (but not copy it) in Firefox. Wait...did I just admit I used windows?
