So does this mean if I buy something off of Amazon or Ebay my ISP needs to get a cut cause of the bandwidth I used? I thought I was paying them in the first place for it so I am confessed. Wouldn't that then make it "my bandwidth" not "their bandwidth" ?

It's kind of funny to me that people will pay $80 cable bills without a whimper but will cry foul at the concept of paying $13 a month to TiVo to make the cable service so much more worthwhile. Because like all technology thats is now getting on the pricey side. I pay $5 more to my cable company and have a DVR that can record duel channels (which you cant do with digital cable with a tivo) in high definition. I also do not have to shell out any additional cost and can upgrade for nearly free when anything better comes along. Tivo just cant compete with that.

My digital cable box already shows weather and has for years. I think the only way Tivo is going to save its self in the long run is with that rumored parntership with Netflix to deliver downloadable movies.

This is not true as far as I can find it. You can lease a regular DVR for $5 a month, but if you want Dish's version of the HD DVR you still have to shell out around $1,000. If I am wrong, please correct me but I have been researching this a lot lately since I am debating which service I want.

Lets try to help you out then.

First of all your not going to be anything new for $5-10. Its just not going to happen. You may be able to get something thats pretty old in clearance for that much, but not much else.

Monthly Rentals I rent from netflix: 16
    Total Price: $21.99

Now lets see how much to buy them (lets just average it and say $16 bucks per new dvd):
    16 x 16 = $256

So lets see... I can spend $21.99 to see these movies, most which I will never watch again or do not wish to own. Or I can spend $256 a month on the chance I will like them and want to keep them.

Seems pretty clear to me why people would like this.

Thats the reason why I dont own a Tivo. Its not worth $12 bucks (around that) to get data for 3 days of programming. Comcast has a built a DVR in their newer digital boxs that only costs an additional 5 bucks a month. I only wish it was available in my area. :-(

There are so many people watching you anyway when you walk down the streets whats the big deal with having a camera there to? Leo leaving the Screen Savers, X-play being redone to what it is now and so forth. Screen Savers has just been not as interesting and fun as it used to be. Personally I don't blame Comcast for wanting to change things around. Maybe by cutting out and changing the many horrible G4 shows and merging them with some redone versions of tech tv's top shows something good could come from this.

I feel bad for the people who just have been told they have 60 days to get out but I'm not going to slash at Comcast until I see the end result.

You really don't understand anything about Apple do you? You act like ipod sales are anywhere near as profitable as their hardware sales. So by your logic they are going to go, "we have more ipods sold than copies of os x so lets port everything to windows!" Where is the logic in that? I'm not sure what your basing your static's on but Apple is not in trouble selling Hardware, if anything, people are pretty pro Mac these days than they have been. The bottom line is Apple does not care about PC users having a great user experience; they want all of you using Macs. There is no way they would just give away one of their biggest selling points because they can use used with music.

  25. Re:within a year, more iPod users than Mac OS X us on Why iPod Mini is a smart move for Apple · · Score: 1

No it wouldn't make any sense because there is no profit in that for them. What would be the benefit of giving windows users iphoto, imovie, ect. all for free? Sure you could say they could charge for it but that would defeat their whole marketing attempt to motivate people to buy Macs. ITunes sells iPods and online music, none of the other programs add to the purchase of additional Apple products.

I am sure there are many people who switched over because they were influenced by the ease of price tag of the iLife package. Keeping their award wining programs on the Mac side gives them weight to point a finger at the Windows world and go, "well, why not switch over to a Mac and make your life easier."
