the unions tend to prevent strikes and make the salaries fluctuate less, which makes long time planning easier. Yep, they also make sure that even the worst employee keeps their job, and no matter how much you excel, you will still be paid the same amount the schlub only giving 50% does. I've worked in union and non-union shops. I can't stand unions....

For 200 feet at 12V you need 1/0 gauge wire, which is ten times the cross-section, and three-and-a-half times the diameter... Again, not huge in real-world terms, but bigger than you imagine...
1/0 gauge wire is about as big as your thumb, and weighs around 7 lbs./foot. It's welding cable. I'd hate to try to run that in my house. And that's why AC is used.

I really enjoyed Sochu when I was stationed in Okinawa back in the 80's. Mixed with tea, it was more enjoyable on a hot Okinawan day than Saki.. It reminded me of the Korean drink Soju. That was normally mixed with Oscar wine, fruit juice and Hawiian Punch, as a drink called an "Ammo Bowl" It was served in a large bowl with ice, and alot of straws. The drinkers of the bowl would link the straws together and all drink from the bowl at the same time. Ahh, those were the drunken days!

The Feds can NOT just send in the National Guard. It has to be asked for by the states governor. And she didn't. You want to place blame where blame is due? Place it on the Mayor of NOLA, for not kicking in the disaster/evacuation plan like he was supposed to do. Blame it on the Governor, who was talked to by our Prez, and had to ask for 24 hours to decide if they actually wanted military help. Sometimes the conservative bashing mentality here just drives me nuts..

Could mean higher gas prices? The oil companies have our number already. One refinery in the N.O. area supplies most of the gasoline to the great lakes areas (Ohio, Mich, ETC).. Gas prices in Toledo OH jumped from $2.45/gal to $2.95/gal in a matter of 6 hours. I haven't been out since 6 last night, so I will bet that they are over $3/gal now. I know that there are places with higher prices, but 18 months ago this area was paying around $1.35/gal.
