Why not? I graduated to stuffing random shaped boxes in the company van for a run across state. Full to the brim and barely a hole left to toss in a lunch box:)
"I prefer my children to be more free-ranged. Ear tag and brand them to allow for quick identification should someone attempt to horn-in on my 'herd'. "
lol, i think we have a couple tattoo artists for customers i could sell those to if you have extras.....
I find it interesting that the demo is apparently a separate program instead of what they were getting with some preloaded scripts or something. Our demos for our accounting system was someone running the program we were going to buy and mostly doing what we asked. We still missed that an important feature was missing:( Hey, the 1980 computer system did it, the 1990 computer system did it, but forgot to check the 2004 system:/ That was in addition finding out how many of the things it does do actually cost a lot extra to do:(
I believe our Cisco 675 modem here at work has been on continuously ever since Nov 1997:) My home 678 is getting close to 10 years in use. At least my 640K DSL is good for bragging rights...
Our PBX for the telephone system has been running since about 1985 or so:) I even bought another on Ebay a few years back for our new office. 10 line phone system with 12 extensions = $200!
hmm, i wonder if any of that can be adapted for the parent or myself. I would love to get an old terminal keyboard to work on a PC.
Back on the main topic....
The terminals go to a circa 1980 Wang 2200 MVP computer that is still useable as far as i know. I don't have the power (or the nerve) to turn it on at home. The Hard Drive alone is 1950 watts to spin up, added to the other parts needed and it would stretch the old 15 amp circuits a bit much. One of these days tho..... If i spin up the drive and let it settle it will drop down to like 1100 watts giving me enough juice to turn on the CPU,DiskPU, and a terminal. Unfortunately i didn't get to save the 300 baud modem it had hooked up:(
For some reason we still have the Okidata 2350 printer that went with it...Having a hard time finding 2-COLOR ribbons for a 1980's dot-matrix printer however! Ok, to be fair the red/black ribbon was hard to find new and i only know of the GODAWFUL spreadsheet using it.
I wrote a multiplayer version of battleship for it, but i don't think it survived altho the rest of the software did.
After that monster comes a whole collection of PC stuff starting with a mint condition COMPAQ with the original software load. Also a interesting black-market version with the guts of the original but the look of a Compaq II. No names, ID labels, part numbers, or anything inside higher than some chip ID numbers.
My telephone is also circa 1980 and has hit the ground about 524953 times:)
If you paint everything white it stays lighter at night:(
Do we all want perpetual Alaska summers down here? I know when we get a good snowfall it is almost as bright as day all night long if there is any clouds at all to reflect off of. Not sure i want that effect on EVERY cloudy day for all time. It won't be quite as pronounced as snowfall, since roofs and stuff is only 20% or so of what stays covered in snow, but that is still a lot of light bouncing around.
Not that it matters. Unless someone is going to give us a new roof it is 28 years away for us hopefully. We certainly aren't going to whitewash the pretty (and pretty high-end) green shingles i picked out in 2007. Maybe if someone makes (and subsidizes!) white and pastel roof shingles to sell cheaper than current it would catch in a few decades....
Huh?, they just sent it to collections where it will stay for all eternity.... if my sprint bill from 2001 is any indication.... Convince the collections company it is invalid or not owed?....they sell it to another and repeat:/
At least the poster above got to talk to someone about bill...It was always "that needs my supervisor to call you" who never did.
One of our Medicare billing programs was originally installed on 2 DOS 386 machines linked with Novell. I don't think anything has been changed to keep it running, altho we are a little scared to try and go past XP:) Oddly enough it runs a LITTLE faster than originally but somehow a ton of power gets eaten up running the old stuff. 2800MHz is not exactly a LITTLE bump from 25MHz.
I use a PC-File database program that actually works BETTER on my 386** than on my Pentium Duo:(
I still spend over $38 a month on games because i am supporting 2 MMORPG accounts i dont really use much. But just barely... I am mainly playing Flatout 2 online, a 2 year old game that was $30 new! Have that down to $.05 per hour or less:)
Porn doesn't count toward core entertainment? If not then that $38 or so will be half my entertainment $$ not a third;) A few of us actually pay you know...although being grandfathered in 10 years ago at $10/month instead of $30 helps!
I only drive my Explorer 3000 miles a year. Only a few times a year really haul alot, it was used more when i bought it. But unless someone gives me a small car there is no way to justify replacing it. No payments and virtually no maintanence.
I can't even justify fixing the old 74 Opel Manta (aka Manta A) in the garage to use instead. While small the mileage is not anything spectacular...nor are the emissions. Unless everyone else moves their bumper down to match it the safety sucks too:(
If they don't want anyone to see the locking mechanism then why is it covered in glass instead of steel and wide open to the lobby during the day? I don't think glass and polished brass is required for it to function is it? Safe deposit boxes don't care what the inside of the door looks like. I like pretty and i like mechanical things and it is very much both. There is a (presumably locked) metal gate inside to prevent casually walking in.
They found a nude picture of an employee on a work computer and...call the cops?
The cops and DA must be awfully friendly with the treatment plant bosses, i can't imagine calling that in from work here and getting any kind of coherent response from the cops. Especially as they didn't care about the employee that stole nearly $10,000 in merchandise because they couldn't 'prove' it. (apparently any one is likely to have a stack of adult diapers, foam bed pads, 20,000 latex gloves, etc in their garage just like their employer...)
I still haven't managed to get rid of my car and getting to work is not even an issue (2 blocks away!). It would be cheaper but a hassle and convenience is worth big bucks nowdays:)
Grocery shopping is possible. Taxi or even walking...if i steal a cart. Bus would be 2 hours to go 2-3 miles or 10 miles by bus:(
Anything else however is a royal pain. The big box stores and mall are all miles away and would take 2 or more buses and an hour or two each way. Plus the hassle of trying to bring back whatever on the bus. Taxi would be over $20 each way (and no quicker around here, since noone uses them there aren't many) I couldn't go to an evening movie (ok, theoretical) or play laserquest or go out without making a reservation for pickup by taxi since buses shut down by 9-10 or so. That $20 evening out would be an extra $20 plus an hour to get there each time.
So for a very large headache, many hours of my own time, and a few hundred in taxi fare per year i could save the $1200 in insurance. Gas is probably a wash with bus fare. Car was paid for years ago and i don't do maintenance;)
Only real logical is in a 2 or more car family getting rid of one.
Or start kicking at cars as you cross in front of them stopped at a light to see if it senses the cars speed correctly before deploying? How long does that sensor stay calibrated?
How about just tossing rubber balls into the street? Normally $0 damage but $1000 if you time it just right... Can the driver even sue you if you don't even hit their car?
How about we just call the whole thing a bit overblown?
For those of you who want the spikes in the steering wheel, maybe you can try my 55 ford. With a bench seat and no seatbelts if you go around a corner too fast you may slide over to the passenger side of the car! That should cut down people going to fast to make the corner;) Should you hit something the horn button being steel should leave a nice FORD imprint on your face to remind you not to do that again.
For those advocating the opposite... Bonus points if the pedestrian gets stuck on the big pointy hood ornament:)
Why not? I graduated to stuffing random shaped boxes in the company van for a run across state. Full to the brim and barely a hole left to toss in a lunch box :)

I, for one, am speechless....maybe they should have been too.....
We are still looking for serial cables with 8ga wire......

"390,000 people will have access to the database, but will have gone through stringent security training"
Hey, they all went thru training what could go wrong?
What do you mean training is not the same as screening?
Maybe the customer wasn't such an idiot after all.....he could have even been right ;)
Not exactly high density nor was it overwritten. 400MB drive that appears to have 2 or more platters from the pic.
hmm, I'll have to ask my bank.

Ride a unicycle
That wasn't so hard (to figure out)
It's about time we found something more expensive than the refills for my inkjet.
(If you are going to tell me to wait to post about mentioning how long....)
Hey, there were THREE lines in the summary...at least one was bound to be wrong......
Isn't he the lead designer for Duke Nukem Forever?
If you wish....
The gas bill might a tad steep however. I would suggest only doing it that way when you are running late ;)

I think it was something about testosterone being a better contraceptive than slashdot...or was it vice-versa?
