By this logic, photo radar and red-light cameras should be banned, because they "spy" on driver behaviours.

  9. Drug Use Among Minorities on Green Party Candidate David Cobb Answers Your Questions · · Score: 2, Insightful

It's simple: When minorities abuse substances, they tend to do higher doses, and do it outdoors more frequently. Some guy laying on his floor listening to Bob Dylan isn't likely to get busted. A guy on the street on PCP causing trouble is bound to make the news. (Rodney King anyone? He now lives in my home town - LOL.) "Past research shows that African American adolescents and adults experience substance-related problems at higher levels than those of White adolescents and adults, but their rates of substance use are similar if not lower than those of Whites." http://www.health.ufl.edu/shcc/cadrc/pdf/alc19.pdf

  11. Apple/Motorola Deal on Mobile Phone - Convergence Point For iPod, Others? · · Score: 3, Interesting

Jobs' move of integrating Motorola phones with iTunes was a brilliant move IMO - he sees where it's headed and wants to become a player. And through this deal will probably do so months and months before anyone else rolls out something truly consumer-friendly.

As soon as phones start getting 1GB drives in 'em, I'll be carrying my iPod with me a lot less often. (And I'll get a lot angrier when I drop my phone, too!)

  13. Endless Debate on Tubes vs Transistors: An Audible Difference? · · Score: 1

The best thing about this, is there will actually be people who enter this discussion thinking they may say something so convincing that everyone will end up on one side of the fence. Fact is, the tube crowd will always swear it's worth the money for the huge difference in sound which they hear, and the non-tube crowd will claim to either be unable to hear the difference, or won't find the disadvantages of tubes (fragility, cost, size) to be worth the minimal difference in sound (as they perceive it). And this isn't even factoring in the vinyl crowd!

  19. Death Penalty for Drunk Driving on An Ignition Interlock In Every Car? · · Score: 2, Interesting

Several countries (Saudi-Arabia, Malaysia, Turkey, Thailand) have the death penalty for drunk driving. Most second offense, some first. If you want to cut down on a particular crime the solution is not to write additional laws, but to stiffen the law in place.

    * In South Africa, the penalty is a ten-year prison sentence and the equivalent of $10,000 fine, or both.

    * In Russia, the license is revoked for life.

    * In Malaysia, the driver is jailed. If he is married, his wife is jailed, too.

Because many of us *can't* fit our entire collections on a portable player. (I'm at around 70 gigs and still don't have my entire library encoded yet.)

Having an inexpensive player that could hold 20-40 albums would be great to have in cases where you wouldn't want the size/expense of the current iPod (e.g., during exercise when trashing it in a crash is a possibility, or in public settings such as the beach where you'd want to leave it on shore under a hat while swimming, during travel, etc.).
