  1. Questions on Microsoft Set To Be Fined $2.4M a Day · · Score: -1

    1. If the EU decides to use unlicensed copies of MS ware, how will they get support/updates for said wares? 2. How can the EU force MS to pay the fines? 3. How many of you really think you know how deep/perverse the relationship between MS and the US government is? Do you really think the US gov. will allow its's largest company to pay out monies to another country's bank account rather than to it's own? Hmmm... Let's think really hard about that. And let's not try to think about the way things should be, but rather the way they really are and will be. Thank you.

I reload my own ammunition; because its fun to me and it saves me money. Gun powder manufactures have been required for some time now to include a certain compound which can be detected before and after a round has been discharged. This compound can then be traced to the lot number and location of where the tube or box of powder was sold. It is a much more effective way IMO to track the powders use. Such compounds could be added to toner cartridges...right? Let me know.

everything will be freely traded on the Internet, though by then the Internet will be called something else as it will probably be something else. I could see all of us actually being connected to one another, not the way some people say we are now, but truly connected. There will be no more fear of invasion of privacy, as privacy will be an obsolete term. Do we really believe that with the population growing as it has been, and with technology advancing at the rate that it does, things will stay the same...the way we like it? The answer, people, is no. Things are going to change far beyond what the government and big business have planned for. Soon we will all realize what fools we have been by thinking on such a small and constricting scale. Even the brightest minds of today have it wrong. We have been searching for the irrelevent truth which has preoccupied man for centuries and, without being too cryptic, I will say that one day, we will all see the truth. And when we do we had better remember what it is because I fear that the ancient civilizations saw it, yet were either too egotistical or unevolved to take heed. I do not mean to be taken as an apocalyptic Nostradamus type, rather the opposite. I feel that all it will take is just one single person too see and believe as the "true" truth unfolds for us all to be saved from self destruction. That, and a shitload of tinfoil hats1 Haha!

Simon, compare this problem to what is going on in Singapore, a speck of a country. They impose all kninds of crazy tax and "moral-majority" laws/restrictions against US companies that it almost ties the companies hands and keeps them from seeing any substantial growth in . It is a paradox in which foreign companies, not only US ones, have been living with for years. Your suggestion is for companies who do not like the host countries laws to just pack up and leave? Is that even possible considering the implications? Loss of jobs, productivity, money...It sounds to me like economic bullying, something the US has always been accused of, even though we send more _developmental_ funds to third world countries than any other in the world, but that is another topic. {deep breath} Anyway, this is a problem of doing business in a country notorious for human rights abuses and, as usual, there is a much greater problem to contend with than making a few billion dollars over seas.

  25. A huuuge difference between blogs and essays! on The Age of the Essay · · Score: 0

*Most* blogs are messy, geek-type rants without a complete structure throughout the entire effort. Essays, on the other hand, are a means by which an educated individual, (now, pay attention to this part people) clearly states one's opinion on any given subject, while giving examples/proof to support one's opinion. Most bloggers are unable to do this. Why? Because there are no rules in blogging! As mentioned in the parent, spelling is most often hideously butchered, along with sentence structure and any semblance of source citation. Look up the definition of plagiarism! Maybe blogging is supposed to be a loose, free-form way of self expression, which is fine. But there must be rules with any type of writing. To quote Robert Frost, "I would as soon play tennis without a net as write free verse." So, if you play tennis without a net, are you even playing tennis anymore? Please keep in mind that this post should be taken as constructive criticism, and not a troll. As far as my examples of poorly written blogs, well, I don't want to single out anyone's blog, but you have all seen evidence of what I am speaking. An excellent exercise: Write a letter to someone! Use a pen and paper, no spell check, but a dictionary and/or thesaurus. You will be forced, at first, to reread what you have written several times to correct spelling, run-on sentences, etc. Eventually, you will want to reread and to rewrite because you will want to convey the perfect tone and voice upon which your words are carried. It is good to get back to basics; it reminds us how much we have been screwing up. Please, don't bother replying to my post if you are just goning to FLAME. Constructive criticism only, thank you. Otherwise, you are just blogging.
