doesn't bittorrent use md5 to verify the sections of files it has downloaded? will this facilitate poison seeds? or does BT use something more complex than md5?
exactly! honestly not trying to troll here, Mac OS X is a tried and true (and awesome) desktop OS. Red Hat certainly has a good track record as a server OS but it has certainly not yet proven to me that it is worthwhile on the desktop.
I say they should reconsider taking the Mac OS X. Those users who want to tinker will be able to download Linux anyway. (GUESS WHAT, LINUX IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE FREE. Mac OS X is not.)
these are words that i think a whole damn lot of us have been waiting a long time to be able to use when describing a linux distribution. the ubuntu team really is making some progress, so kudos to them!
i'm finding a bunch of these storefront pictures as being horrible pictures... perhaps they're testing the reliability of the system here?
for example, the storefront that is being asked about might be cut off completely, showing instead the entirety of the neighboring store. This might be the "best" photo, however, it would NOT be what the requesting storefront would be looking for. If people consistently chose the nicest photo as opposed to the one that most closely matches the request, i think this system will be proven invalid.
the article goes into detail making fun of the new features of MSN 7, but I have only recently started using MSN, after many years of using AIM/Gaim/Trillian, and have been really reawakened to being excited about IM. I love the ability to easily create emoticons, have a seemingly robust webcam support, and just a nice interface in general.
Using MSN on gaim in Linux is just a joke in comparison. I don't forsee Microsoft releasing a nicely featured linux client anytime soon, but perhaps with Yahoo linking their network with MSN, we might see an upgrade to the tired linux version of Yahoo Messenger.
i think i speak for many of us when i ask the question: Where are our Dragonlance and/or Ravenloft related games and/or movies? Personally, these settings interested me the most of all the TSR worlds. Someday, the Chronicles will be made into a movie, and then everything will be right in the world.:-D
this is a good start, too bad they're including FreeDOS disks and not free Ubuntu disks though. But I'd guess that the people who would buy this sort of machine already have access to some distributions.
the major concern i have is... will this somehow be synced with an offline copy so you can edit it seemlessly with your standard office apps? because i, for one, have a shitty Adelphia cable modem that decides to go down pretty much at the most inopportune times. i can only imagine the headaches that an online-only office suite would cause when your network is down.
eh, it's a petition for help, in any way possible, and those affected can use the help... even if the source is the typical/.er. if those volunteers got even a single good idea from the thread, than wouldn't you say it was worthwhile?
yeah zonk i totally agree, the cube, to me, was a bit missed opportunity for nintendo. but i don't really feel that nintendo has righted their ship with the direction they're going... in fact i think it will have the reverse affect. i suppose we'll see.
nintendo is losing mindshare and marketshare and this is just not helping. who, precisely, are they going after with this console, with this controller? the casual gamer?
is there such thing as a casual gamer anymore? i'm curious as to how nintendo would define that. to me, it's the kid playing Madden and Halo after school. and these people will happily continue playing these games on PS3 and X360. if they are going after the bejeweled crowd, i think Nintendo is seriously in trouble. i just can't see this console gaining the industry support to matter anymore. Nintendo will continue along, bringing some quality first party games, but will anybody notice?? what kids are going to ask for one of these over another console?
Price point is the only thing I feel Nintendo has going for them right now. Presumably this console will cost significantly less than others.
But I still feel like it's based on a hokey premise. I don't want to install a sensor on my tv. What if I want to lay on my bed or on a couch and play a game... will I have to contort myself so i'm facing the screen?
will i want to play several hours of an RPG when my arms are tired from being held aloft that whole time? ugh it just seems so impractical.
beware though, the nintendo fanboys will be the ones with massive arm strength, so don't badmouth the console in front of them.;-)
i, for one, welcome our new videogame playing overlords, armed to the teeth with a Sony Boomerang and a pair of Nintendo Nunchucks.
As with all controllers, I must hold it before I can honestly judge it, but come on Nintendo, didn't we do away with square edges years ago, for good reason?
i think we (even those of us who DO watch anime) were just upset that they put the Final Fantasy name on a movie that really shouldn't have been associated with such a beloved franchise. Perhaps if it were marketed as "By the creators of Final Fantasy" rather than being labeled part of Final Fantasy, we wouldn't have had such expectations.
it's another contest hosted by RSA... it's like $10k again, nothing major... basically people do it for the stats (it proves your technical manhood by having your name on the top 100 or whatever) I think most people understand that the contest being solved in an inevitability over time, and that their chances of actually winning money are extremely small, but it can be fun to race your friends in stats.
i like the sounds of this. what's to stop a company (besides, of course, technical hurdles) who is forward thinking enough to travel to mars and stake a massive claim to land, resources, etc? If one company does it, others are sure to follow. Maybe this will light a fire underneath the painfully slow-moving NASA and any other government run space agencies around the world.
i see huge potential in a fuel source that could be stored in this manner. Imagine a world where you could just buy a box of fuel pellets at the grocery store, since it's safe enough to keep in the aisles. My guess i that this could potentially do away with "gas stations" as we know it, leaving them to scrounge around for the few remaining gasoline-powered cars, and becoming more and more relegated to doing service and maintenance.
and according to this Ant-Man has previously teamed up with Spiderman. Oh I see the crossover possibilities already.
perhaps all these movies are to serve as introductions, and the real blockbuster will be the huge every-marvel-superhero-we've-ever-mentioned vs. Apocalypse or something movie, which will no doubt come out in 15 years or so.
Duke Nuken Forever is being released! On the Phantom Gaming Console. Which will be running Longhorn!
seriously though, this is a good thing, hopefully this will allow for user-chosen themes, etc. and way to get http://it.slashdot.org/ to not look like baby poo.
don't say that too loud. I don't want bot engines to become categorized as weapons of mass destruction. i can see a day where these AI's are covered in export restrictions because of their increasing complexity and capabilities.
well his dialogue in particular... for example, in this section:
shymuffin32: why do you like music?
jmstriegel: hmm. i've never really considered that.
jmstriegel: hell, i'm not going to be able to contrive a good answer for that one. ask me something else.
he doesn't give a response that proves he even recognizes the question, instead, he gives a brain-dead answer that could be put into any number of questions.
i think it's free as in, the standard version no longer will nag you for registration, while the pro version will still require a registration. that's what i gathered, at least.
thank you for your advertisement of digg. please go away now.
this isn't an ad for winzip... it is news that this fairly ubiquitous program that we've all used at some point will now be available in a free version without nags. it's not like this article was completely without any merit.

I am merely stating that uhh... life.. finds... a way.

amusement parks and some malls still have arcades, but they're becoming fewer and farther between
