That's why I'm saying it'd probably be better off for them not to have a set release date. Just continue to release info on the game until it eventually comes out. That's what happened with Quake 3 and look at it even today.
I just hate the fact that when developers do get behind schedule, everyfuckingbody jumps at them. Maybe Valve should just be more like idSoftware, with the motto of "It'll be finished when it's finished." That way, they won't have any annoying ass gamers bitching and starting hate crimes against them when they miss a release date. I just think all developers should be like that. Besides, so what if they miss a release date? As long as they are taking their time and make an awesome game, I'll be happy. Sure, I'd want it to come out faster, but I would drop that need over the chance that the game would be improved if kept in development longer. Look at Enter the Matrix... they rushed to hit the release date, missed it, rushed some more.. and made a very shitty game.
"Modern distros that use the latest versions of KDE and (especially) Gnome feel considerably heavier than before or even than Windows XP/2k3."
Wouldn't you think that KDE was a lot more graphical than GNOME? No offense to GNOME, but it sure does look a hell of a lot better. How could that not take more memory than GNOME...?
Maybe the idiots that had that actually wrote their password on a sticky note and posted it NEAR their computer to have it stolen...? Oh wait, that'll never happen.
I don't think Sun will be dead BECAUSE of Linux, since it HAS chosen to embrace it afterall...
I just think that SCO should get their nose out of this one. Solaris, Sun's popular and powerful unix build is a threat to SCO's UnixWare OS... and that's the only real reason I see them wanting to take it down.
I fail to see what the hell that has to do with anything. My point = the fact that they are trying to make everything their property. And besides, little bitchass comments like THAT made people look like asses -- not what I said. So shut the fuck up.
Even it can stay stable by being people-controlled, then more power to it. Even though I HATE the FCC, I feel that we need some sort of consistant stability to hold everything together. This IS America after all and we are not communist.
You really think so? I think it'll just be the same... people will just look it as a new version of Windows Media Player and continue to use it. No matter what they do, when the world sees Microsoft in front of it, they feel at home. Damn monopoly..
Well,, nonetheless, MoZilla AND Opera working together is a big advancement in our technological world. Just look at both's internet browsers. Now with Microsoft... sure, they have more money to throw away, but they will soon find out that many people won't just abide by their technology anymore when there is something better. Also for free.
PC Users. If Apple gives them a preview of an unfinished version, they will receive a mass amount of hate directed towards it; people taunting the system, disrespecting Apple, etc... and that's something I know they don't want right now. It would only stir up more flames in BBSs also, as people seem to want to compare unfinished things to everything else they feel is good.
And user-friendliness. With that, even Windows users can be able to use it. Take for instance, my friend Thomas can run MandrakeLinux and Lycoris like a charm.. because he's experienced with Windows, but he can't run Slackware or Debian.
The CPU is, but the video card is not. The only thing I've really upgraded with this desktop is the video card, harddrive, and I threw in another stick of RAM. It's not my primary desktop system though.
Yeah, it doesn't really take that much. The computer I have is five years old, and although I've upgraded it over the years... just the thought of a five-year old PC running UT2004 a lot better than most stock store PCs makes me laugh.

Yeah, you have a really good point. Depending on the operating system that I use really changes my mood for the desktop environment. I'm a really old school RedHat user, so I'm used to GNOME... and even today, I prefer it over KDE. I don't really hate KDE anymore though... SuSE 9.1 (which I'm also a big fan of) really changed the way I think about it. Maybe it was just the cute little Tux My Computer icon, but I really love the way KDE looks now. I just wish that MoZilla wasn't so etchy on it... Konquerer, although the great browser that it is, gets really tiresome... especially when the windows in your OS look jaggy.
But personally, I'll use whichever DE the distro. I'm using is running -- rather that be KDE or GNOME.
Well, nonetheless, if Sun somehow dies, the world still has Solaris and Java at their fingertips. I can't believe they are actually going through with this. I thought that little Microsoft deal would have stopped it completely, but I guess Sun still has a few tricks of thier sleeves. w00t!
If you're really into a game, sure. It doesn't make you stupid, just addicted. If you had enough money and you loved the game that much, I'm sure you would have done the same thing.
I'll rig up some sort of device to my heart... when it stops because of any reason at all, my entire network/backups/programmed property will be destroyed. No one will get their hands on my files! Muwhahahaha!
Yeah. It's quite funny how I own almost every video game console except for the Xbox. I actually was going to purchase one when this game came out, just because it looked so amazing. I may still get it, if Fable turns out to be decent, but I really hate Halo.
Yeah, even though they have an agreement, doesn't necessarily mean that they are partners. For some, it could just be some sort of non-aggression pact -- even though Star Office rivals Microsoft Office... and Sun Java DE rivals Windows. Overall though, I believe it to be just a PR move as you mentioned -- there would be no other reason for it.
That's a really stupid idea. I mean... as common as this idea is, how can they have not thought of a flaw in it? So they can't copy a CD more than say.. 4 times? Think that's going to stop someone from making 200 copies of it? Hell no. For one, they can make a copy of the copy.. as many times as they want. And again, they can import all the music files to their computer, where they are free to make as many also.
Yeah. I haven't used it yet, but if it's the same as Mandrake 10, I'm going to be pretty damn impressed. I really love SuSE 9.1 LiveCD though. I'm just a huge Novell fan.
Yeah man, seriously. Even though my girlfriend is not a gamer, she doesn't have a single problem with me being one. After all, why date a girl if you can't totally be yourself around her?
I've bought my girlfriend a ton of clothes off of ThinkGeek and JinxHackWear... She wears them lovingly. I love her and I'm very proud of her.

I don't see how the hell Microsoft can patent that. It's just like them trying to get a copyright on the word Windows....
Even it can stay stable by being people-controlled, then more power to it. Even though I HATE the FCC, I feel that we need some sort of consistant stability to hold everything together. This IS America after all and we are not communist.
"Microsoft says the discussions were halted due to the complexity involved in the transaction and in integrating the two companies."
Wow. Microsoft halts due to any sort of complexity, eh? No wonder their software is so user friendly...
You really think so? I think it'll just be the same... people will just look it as a new version of Windows Media Player and continue to use it. No matter what they do, when the world sees Microsoft in front of it, they feel at home. Damn monopoly..

That doesn't surprise me at all. Pretty soon we'll see Microsoft trying to get a copyright on the damn taskbar...

But when it all boils down... Slackware CD 2.
