O.k. Mac OS X is the Mach microkernel with the BSD everything else using Quartz (licensed from SUN) for video.
That sounds like NeXT. The mach microkernel with BSD everything else. The exception is Quartz as NeXT used X11.
Man, Steve-o must love that mach microkernel. I don't know why I would run Mac OS X as I did truly love my old Mac OS (nods to the boos and hisses, Thank you! Thank you very much!).
I got turned away at the interface. Way too sugary for me and the price tag. Before OS X new systems were $99. But OS X is $130! And I think but they just recycled half of it!
So, yes. I do not "get" OS X. And no. You cannot convince me otherwise.
I had been intersted in Linux for a few years and tried out Yellow Dog for about a year before I switched full time. What can I not do that I did on my old MacOS? Games. And I prefer those on a console.
...Pink Floyd ceased to exist as a musical force after Roger Waters left
Actually it was before the band broke up, after the final cut.
I like to belive that the last Pink Floyd album was The Wall.
Richard Wright didn't play and wasn't involved with the final cut. Nick Mason didn't play on all the tracks and Gilmours guitar work sounded like an uninspired performance at best.
The new, post Waters Floyd is not Floyd at all IMO.
A few years ago I bought a Palm M130 (33mHz dragonball processor, 8 mb ram, SD slot). I still have 1.6 mb free and that is with thousands of records (Documents to Go, Memo and Palm Reader files). I recharge it about twice a week.
Sure, I can't browse the web wirelessly or play dvd quality movies but I use it to look up spreadsheet/Word records, phone numbers and play solitaire. It is an information device and it does that very well. So well that my using one has inspired about five of my co-workers to get one. They simply are won over by the utility I get out of mine*.
But I do agree that devices are trying to be the be all device to everyone doing almost all poorly. But as we all know mediocrity sells (like chalky hotcakes).
I also have a Neuros audio player....If only it played flac. Oh well I am happy enough with ogg-vorbis.
* Yes, Grafitti sucks. Especially Graffitti 2. I work for the company who sued Palm and won, forcing them to change.:-(
I suppose we all will have to "suck it up" as other countries (like Canada) were very vocal about moving there when everyone got disappointed/disillusioned with the 2004 election.
When I hold you in my arms and feel your trigger against my finger I know that nothing can do me no harm because. Happiness is warm, yes it is, guuuuuuunnnnnnn! Bang Bang shoot shoot.
First I tried iconnecthere and after following their directions I had no service. I was thankful the first month was free so I could cancel before I was charged.
Next I tried Vonage whom I thought would be better. I had trouble signing up (I have no home phone and couldn't remember what number I gave the bank) and after trying three times to correct the information by following a link they gave me that didn't take me to the information I needed to change emailed them. Which I was invited to do in their email to me as I couldn't call the 800 number. I emailed them three times.
Then I signed up with Lingo. The sign up went well (I remembered the number I gave the bank). The phone adapter arrived and I followed the directions. And it worked!
So then I pondered who I should call first. Should I order pizza? No! I should call Vonage and cancel my order. So I did. After talking to three people and getting transfered the first two times I got this guy who had only been told I had problems signing up. I made it clear to him that I wanted to cancel because Vonage couldn't answer my emails so I went with a competitor. Then he said "So you're talking to me..." Me: "On my new VOIP service and it works GREAT!"
So I got Vonage to cancel my pending service and 911 is a little funky with my service right now. Basically when I dial 911 it will go my VOIP providers operators who will take the call and then call 911. So I had to verify that my living address was correct.
But I am not worried, I survived a collapsed lung without medical attention so I believe I can make my own way to the hospital if anything serious goes wrong. (Please don't bother replying how dumb this thinking is; I don't care)
There used to this guy at work who would tease me (then a Mac user) about the one button mouse to which I would retort "My mouse has five buttons, moron! How do you live with ony two!".
I suggest that we adjust the time to our clocks daily.
Trust me on this, I'm with the chimps and monkeys (and we are just hairless apes) on this subject.
I mean, doesn't the Earth revolve about the Sun? So every day the sunrise is a little later or a little earlier. I think having clocks/watches that would minutely adjust for this would be great! The morning would always look about at the same state every morning.
No more would you go to work in the dark and come home in the dark. If you are into agriculture (where your schedule follows that of your crops) this would help as everyone else would be keeping the same time as you.
If you are able to wake up to sunlight (most natural) then you could fire your alarm clock or maybe keep it as back-up. I think this would be beneficial to people who work 2nd and 3rd shifts as well.
Think about it. No more losing an hour or having to adjust those clocks that don't adjust themselves.
I know businesses and banks wouldn't like this but screw them! If we all hang together they would have no choice.
Join me my brethren in ushering in a New Age of Reason! One where We push Time around! Never again to painfully re-adjust to a new time! Let's keep the time of our farthest fore-fathers.
I think that boot time is a part of the overall impression. 1. WinTel users complained that MacOS took a long time to boot. 2. MacOS people complained that Windows took a long time to shut down. 3. I run Linux and think it takes a long time to boot up and shut down.
BTW: Just what could be done with DOS multimedia wise?
....A printer which can print $20 dollar bills....
Most decent inkjets will do a pretty good job here, but the US Govt. takes a rather dim view of such activity.
Since the mid to late 90's colour copiers either will print a nice black banner across the image of a currency note or not print at all.
On the other hand, it is amazing that cashiers will accept fakes printed on 25% cotton bond. Yes this happened. I worked at the place where the guy was doing this. He's in prison now.
I called Comcast to get service and the rep told me he "doesn't think their srvice will work with Linux". I told him it will work, no worries, no problem.
When the installer showed up I made sure to a terminal open and did what I could to make it look NOT like Windows.
The result?
He kept his hands off my keyboard and called his people to skip the Windows setup.

"I mean, wouldn't a plain old Kodak Polaroid do this?" That reminds me. I want to get one myself. First, I'll shut off my Dell iMac, then I'll hop in my Chevrolet Taurus, and see if my local Target Wal-mart has one. Once I get it, I'll post a few GIF JPG's.
Whoa man, Lay off I'm from the future.
Perhaps I could interest you in a new ThunderCougarFalconBird. It has eagles in the floor boards. Eagles in the dashboard. Eagles everywhere!

And Waters isn't "Pink". Sid Barrett is.
I looked at it and all I can say is "Three guitars and NO SOLO!"
It sucks.
Props for spirit though.
PS. I play guitar and mandolin so I am qualified.
Having read Linus's biography "Just for fun" I would say that linux started as a terminal program that was developed under minux.

Also, on a well-maintained highway

I live in Albuquerque; what are these maintained roads of which you speak?

So wire up a regular phone headset to the sound card of the computer (red/black wires to mic, green/yellow to speaker).
I have Lingo as my voip provider and I use skype with my friend in Mexico but I like the headset of a regular phone.

Those voting districts were revamped by Republicans.

Yes, you are deficient in iron. Spinach is a good source of iron.
I do not like yogurt but I eat it for the benefits of nutrition.

It seems to me that when I copy something and close the app the buffer goes away also.
To successfully copy something I must leave the orginating app open.
This is what is wrong in my book. Go ahead, try it in Windows or MacOS. Not a problem
