Sega has certinly fallen from where they are, but coming out here to Japan, all over Im seeing these Sega Arcades that seem to be pretty popular, AND big. Are they really on the ropes, or was the exit strategy of leaving Consoles just a smart business move (not being rhetoric, im seriously asking)
Im going to be so sad when it ships... I mean, this is like an end to a chapter, who will we turn to for making jokes at in the gaming world? Phantom? Well I guess thatll do!
`Sir, market analysis shows that the Final Fantasy series continues to be a major hit, with demand still high. Although releasing one would help make us all richer, I feel we should stop making them cuz... uh... 12+ is enough!`
No doubt... not only that, but wasn't there a fair amount of PS3 bashing because the PS3 final design wasn't completed? Regardless what the Wii looks like i'll be buying it.
No Doubt... Spore sounds impressive, looks impressive, but the question is will it actually be fun? I'm foaming at the mouth over it, but who knows it could be released as a bug ridden piece of crap. Black & White anyone? That sounded pretty cool to me too... too bad it failed in what it's goal was (so sayeth me anyways:D) Nobody knows if it will sell well until... well.. it sells well.
My OS drive is actually fairly new... a 36 gig SATA, 10,000 RPM drive. I intentinally bought this for my OS drive as it's the fastest one (or was at the time) I paid a lot for a little, but wanted performance over size (my file server has all the 200+ drives in it) The thought that the OS requires that much space is... I need a drink.
What I find interesting is this seems to be driving more people towards the Wii then the 360, at least on Slashdot (so gotta take that with a grain of salt) I have no doubt thisd will chop Sony's dominance down, the question is will it be enough for the other two to catch up? Personally I'm still planning on going for the full PS3 AND Wii. 360 is myeh until some games that suit my taste appears.
I played the style you mention in Ultima Online back in the day, never looked up information, considered it cheating. End result? Never maxed, never best gear etc etc... if it takes some people MONTHS to get that epic gear WHEN THEY KNOW EXACTLLY WHAT TO DO... how long do you think it'll take when you don't know how to get it? Or even if it exists? I know play FFXI and use databse sites all the time... and honestly have way more fun because I'm not spending all my time wandering around in circles.
I don't see the major game publishers producing DX10 based games for awhile, not until market penetration for Vista is pretty deep. Basically your adding the cost of the Vista OS to your game, which is the same or more cost of a physical console gaming unit. I imagine DX9 will be around for a long, long, long time.
The only thing that stops me from giving up the B&M is the fact it's freaking annoying to get deliveries... being in an apartment building, they may either leave it at the front office (best), make me go to the postoffice down the street (myeh), or drive half way across the freakin city to an industrial zone to pick it up (UPS can go to he11), which is doubly difficult since I DONT OWN A CAR. Once they make shipments easy to deal with (or I move to a house and get a car) I'll be runnin the few blocks it is to the nearest store.
This reminds me of a local car commercial... the jingle goes like "Cars cost less in Wetaskiwin!" they've played it for years. And years. And more years. It's horrible. I hate it. It sticks in your head and makes you wanta vomit like a Celion Dion song. And it works perfectly because it's engrained in your head that, well, cars DO cost less in Wetaskiwin... People like us hate Wii so much that we generate tons of publicity for it.
The whole "no such thing as bad publicity theory".
I guess the stack of 20 copies I saw was fake huh. I had the same problem with WoW btw when it first came out. Both times I ended up buying one of the few copies left at Futureshop.
So when I went in to EB Games just now and was told to come back next week because they only had enough FFXI Expansion disks for preorders I guess "nobody" was the one buying em all up. This reminds me of a comic, where the kids blamed stuff on "nobody" "notme" "someone else" etc etc.
"I care not how much power it uses or how well it runs Word or whatever else they are doing to test these things. "
Yawn... so basically what your saying is the only thing that matters is that it's 64bit huh? If it doubles your power bill your happy, because omfgbbq it's 64bit omgz AMD is teh ub3r. intel sux0rz. Funny, my 32bit chip does everything I want, gaming etc, but it must suck because it's not 64 bit huh. What is this, Sega vs Nintendo circa 1990?
I don't know about that... I never played Lineage 1 or 2, but even if those numbers are double what they should be... someone's making a ton of cash. I'd be happy in 2nd and 3rd with that! I do agree with the numbers being bogus tho... these are interesting to view but I would'nt bet much on em.
Your absolutly right... and I presume then that you also feel a website run in the US is not allowed to make comments on laws in other countries? Heck, probably not it's own. "Slashdotters often forget that the US is a sovereign country with its own set of rules & customs. It has the right to determine it's own destiny without need of approval from Slashdot"
Mod parent up, we must never comment on how others do stuff!! [/sarcasim]
Reminds me of Windows Mobile 5, what my new Axim (now with less features then last years model!) uses. I may be getting the details wrong, but my understanding by default only code with a trusted certificate can be run on it, which is far from cheap and requires constant renewing. This basically locks out freeware from running on the new device. I wonder if this is where we're going for Desktops, only approved developers allowed.
I may be getting a few details wrong since from what I read this is only a major issue on the Smartphones running WM5 where they're locked in to this. The Axim has that "feature" toned down somewhat, but apparently this broke a lot of older applications. Corrections or further information on this appreciated.
Thank you for pointing this out... If I could choose between a phone with and without which would I take? Without!! I know I won't be asked to leave the store (happened to a friend texting his gf), I won't be asked to not bring my cell to work, etc etc etc. I'm not a photo buff, I don't take pictures of everything, I just don't want it... I'm not saying don't make phones without cameras, hell, put in a gameboy if you want, but for those that don't want, give us that option too please!
Forget GTA3, Heck I've been eating every leaf I find to fly since SMB3! I'm also highly violent to flying turtles and fire spiting plants. Now excuse me while I watch a harmless episode of Sopranos...
Well, all this talk has made me want to play again, so I reinstalled BG2 ToB, refound my old save games loaded it up... and was totally lost haha. So now I'm replaying through IWD to relearn everything, then either finish off my game or restart from scratch, going all the way back through BG1. Nastalga can sure be time consuming sometimes!!
Not sure I totally agree with you there... Your choices make a huge difference in CT.. do you save the world? Do you finish the game with your main character or no? Do you accept the villan or not? Some endings are so radically different, it's quite interesting. And the part i like about the FF games is there's so much side content, FF7 comes to mind with the whole Weapons, the Yuffie side story, etc etc.
Western RPG's DO have a different feel, there's no doubt. And in some way's yes they are open ended, but to label all Eastern RPG's as game's on rails is shortsighted.

Ya, I can see it now...

What they talking about, sexually explicit... tell em to come here to Japan, then we can talk explicit.

If he honestly believes that he's whacked... remember when Hotmail sold? Ya MS did'nt mess around with Hotmail at all....

Now to go buy a car

Ahhh I see. Well I must admit I was overly harsh in my post (must remember.. drink caffine THEN read slashdot), and I see your point now more clear.
