Isn't it something like eleventy-seven mid-flight false-alarms and zero actual/effectual terrorist plots? We have far more to fear from the idiocies of politicians and bureaucrats infringing on our freedoms than any half-baked schemes by wannabe fanatics.
Far more preferable to use those non-trademarked, non-official and appropriately denigrating references than to give even the appearance of respectability or legitimacy to either the company or its products. It would be like wearing a white shirt and black leather shoes with laces to work.
Why stop there? Since we are processing large volumes of water, let's genetically modify the kelp to extract the gold dissolved in seawater which "contains 3-4 MG/TON (0.004 PPB) AU" http://www.speclab.com/elements/gold.htm.
I do not beleive this is the case with Stardock. Admittedly I have not tried to do it, but probably will soon as emachine/gateway does not seem to be inclined to provide an ATI driver sufficiently up to date to run the game and I'll have to move it to the desktop.
GC2 "DRM" is pretty simplistic, after registering it will add a file called, I believe, "signature.bin" I don't have my laptop in front of me. It even pops a message saying you just need to copy that file on any re-installation. So just backup the file to a USB flash drive and you can schlep the install disks around and re-install anytime any where without any additional interaction with Stardock. Can't say from experience because GC2 bluescreens the ATI driver and and the vanilla drivers will not update amy laptop. I will admit that it is a kinda PITA to do the activation but from a business ethics point of view compared to other game companies, it is almost BSD-like in permissiveness. As for the game itself, I owned a copy of the Original OS/2 version and it just keeps getting better, if you like turn based strategy games. The tunibility for challenge level, size of playing area, # of AI opponents, each race has a different "personality" that governs its goal seeking, resource allocation and more give it an excellent replayability. Actually it was just 32, I used the 64 to establish that it was a per NIC issue rather a host limit. Just needed to order additional NIC cards, easy solution just a tricky bit of diagnosis.
We were outsourcing for a customer on 8 processor 48GB host server and quite a few production VM MS Windows 2003 guests including multiple load balanced terminal servers each using 2 NIC each. We had additional lab guests supporting the devlopment effort to use MIIS to synchronise user accounts and their home directories, etc between Novell ED and MS AD environments, so now you have test servers for both Novell ED, MS AD, Groupwise, Exchange and desktops on top of the production guests, eats up limited resources pretty quick.
if you are reasonably confident that the software you just downloaded is perfect, why on earth would you go through the unecessary trouble and expense of getting a support contract?
I realize the question is mostly sarcastic+rhetorical, "perfect" for your environment is not "perfect" for my environment. But to answer your question:
A) Cheaper upgrades to new features/releases.
B) 24/7 access to knowledgeable people about some of the more obscure capabilities or limits. Try this one, in ESX 2.5.2 there is a limit of 32 virtual NIC to map to physical NIC on the host, i.e. if you have 2 physical NIC, all your running guest servers are allowed a combined total of 64 virtual NICs, when you exceed that number you get a less than informative error message when you attempt to start the guest that needed the 65th virtual NIC. It took a call to support and working with the (IBM) technician to dig through some of the config files and documentation to identify the issue. The software was "perfect" and WAD (working as designed), the limit was even documented! Having over 6 months of smooth sailing resulted in less than perfect recall of such piddling details.
C) Also consider that in many cases the support contract is cheaper than losing a critical person for days to formal training.
VMware is pretty savvy in recognising that the real, ongoing, dollars are in good service and support. All in all my employer and I, personally, are very happy with VMware from a business and business ethics standpoint. I will keep a finger in the pot for Xen and MS virtual offerings with my personel setups at home because I like to keep abreast of the options, but in my employers production we pay for and use ESX software/support and will be deploying a number of VMware VMserver installations and customer sites where ESX is overkill.
One of the most popular action on Slashdot is to insult politicians, rich people or large corporations, paying very little attention to the actual topic of discussion, and then that's rewarded by high karma.
VP Dick Cheney, this years gun safety poster boy, former Haliburton (no-bid government contract champion) bigwig is probably in total agreement.

More importantly I'll form my own opinions based on the facts.

Have just a couple mobile units that travel secretly from one random airport to another and have photo ops of it defending against a dummy missle for local media. The rest of the airports get embossed foil stickers for their windows "This airport protected by Northrop" to scare off wannabe terrorists. Nothrop gets defense maintenance $$$, congress critters get their bribes and the taxpaying and voting pulblic gets the warm fuzzies, everybody wins.

You are much more likely to catch a terrorist at the hilarity checkpoint than to improve baggage handling to any reasonable expectations.

I think "Digital Rectal Mangling" is a far more accurate representation.
How can you find fault with his portrayal of Gurney Halleck in the Coppola flavor of Dune?
