The original Stonehenge indestructibly stood up to the test of thousands of years. This new one can't even withstand a single slashdotting.
I guess they just don't make 'em like they used to.
Don't you see? this was their plan all along

G4 Drops TechTV Name

· Score: 1
Step 1: "merge" with competing technology channel that has more viewers than you
Step 2: Slowly shift the programming towards your original content
Step 3: Take their name off of yours
Step 4: Laugh maniacally as you splash puddles onto the original TechTV staff with your Lamboghini, blowing your nose into a thousand-dollar bill.
In the united states, we have a thing called incremental tax brackets. the "average family of four" does not pay 800 dollars per person. People in the top 2% of wealth pay over 90% of taxes. Their family will pay much more than 800/head, but that's little more than pocket change (i'm not saying i advocate this robin hood method, in fact my family is greatly detremented by it). The "average family" will pay what is to them pocket change.
Is anyone else annoyed by the fact that this story has 8 different links in it? I dont have that much time man! I've got things to do... uh... people to....
Ah, who'm I kidding?
okay, your reply will most likely be modded flamebait, and so will this, but I'm willing to take that risk to educate someone about the DMCA.
I support the view that IP is valuable. I believe it should be paid for, and that stealing software is immoral. I do not however, like the DMCA. It was written so vaguely that if you buy a DVD, and then decode it so that you can store it on your hard drive, you are breaking the law.
in fact, if you were to 'decode' from pig latin the following, "e-thay MCA-Day is-ay upid-stay", you could be breaking the law.
The DMCA needs to be fixed, and this new bill will do exactly that.
The new bill will NOT repeal the DMCA, or remove any clause from it, it will simply ammend the part about circumventing copy-protection to say that you can do it, as long as you don't violate the copyright.
After reading the entire text, i have to say i have no clue why a photographers association would have anything to do with this. Pretty much the entire thing is about mislabelled CDs.
The only thing that might pertain to photographers is the section about fair use:
SEC. 5. FAIR USE AMENDMENTS.
(a) SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH- Subsections (a)(2)(A) and (b)(1)(A) of section 1201 of title 17, United States Code, are each amended by inserting after `title' in subsection (a)(2)(A) and after `thereof' in subsection (b)(1)(A) the following: `unless the person is acting solely in furtherance of scientific research into technological protection measures'.
(b) FAIR USE RESTORATION- Section 1201(c) of title 17, United States Code, is amended--
(1) in paragraph (1), by inserting before the period at the end the following: `
and it is not a violation of this section to circumvent a technological measure in connection with access to, or the use of, a work if such circumvention does not result in an infringement of the copyright in the work'; and
(2) by adding at the end the following new paragraph:
`(5) It shall not be a violation of this title to manufacture, distribute, or make noninfringing use of a hardware or software product capable of enabling significant noninfringing use of a copyrighted work.'.
Not coincidentally, this is my favorite part of the bill.
Our schoold district has a policy of "approving" textbooks before they can be used, and they were too frigging slow to approve the new Java books, so this year when I took the AP Programming course at my school, it was taught from last year's textbooks (in C++).
So I didn't even get to take the test, and it's all because of our retarded beaurocracy.
(Just more proof that my school is in fact run by imbeciles.)
by the way, if we're getting into a biblical debate, then i can go troll -3 on yo ass (luckily no moderators are around this story anymore)
In the bible, it says that noah knew he had found land when he sent out a dove and it returned with an olive tree leaf. A week earlier, when he sent out the same dove, it had returned with nothing. A flood of this magnititude would have wiped out any and all olive trees, and even if a seed survived, it couldn't have grown and produced leaves in a week.
Now even if you stubbornly assert that the dove must have just missed it the first time, then I've still got you because you said the flood only lasted a month, still long enough to kill all trees, still too short for a leaf-producing tree to grow.
Check out skepticsannotatedbible.com for more blasphemy.
I have my Dell Digital Jukebox set to random shuffle, but its not because I think it's "magical." I just got bored with the same order of songs over and over, so I listen to the songs in whatever order the random integer generating function decides on.
Evidence of my thesis (see subject) can be derived from this quote: "Temporal order is an important element of how a work unfolds dynamically over time, an important factor underlying the aesthetic effect."
What the crap is this guy talking about? Is he on pot? It sounds to me like this guy is the one with "brain damage" because his primitive brain can't comprehend music playing in a different order.
A: This country was founded on the premise of the government not being allowed to control what we do in the privacy of our own homes.
B: Consenting adults!!! People who are offended by pr0n don't have to watch it.
C: Without pr0n, what are people going to wank to?
yeah, I'm gonna have to go with those guys shouting "CGI!!!"
It doesnt seem like the joints on the hips would be capable of supporting the weight of a Cooper Mini.
Also, somebody up there mentioned those door panels on his arms, wtf is up with those? How is it supposed to be able to pick anything up?
I haven't been able to view the/.ed movies, but the image just screams "fake!!! CGI!!! Somebody made me on a computer!!!"
Oh yeah, and the way he talks about the coopers being "overbuilt, and suitable for robotic applications" sounds like a quote from a moonlighting marketguru
I recently did a report on the Prohibition of liquor in the '20s, and one tactic the rumrunners used was selling "juice" that included specific instructions that said what to "NOT DO" because it would cause the juice to turn into hard liquor.
Even if the government did by some act of legislation, the RIAA, and the gestapo, get all P2P software to incorporate it, open source programs could have a little readme that says "DO NOT delete line 276, it calls the copyright-protection function."
In conclusion, there is absolutely no way in h3ll the government, the RIAA, or even the gestapo can enforce this (dumb) idea.
wav.
yes, that's right, i bet they forgot about wav files. I'd like to see them put DRM on an age-old standard of uncompressed audio. Hard drives are big enough for them these days, and every audio player ever made will play them.
So remember kids, no matter how bad life gets, there's always *.wav
This does bring up the question though... will DRM kill compressed audio?
It certainly will if they rabidly put it on every format they see.
You know, i haven't seen anything on how long the battery lasts in this thing. This article says it has a 45 mAh lithium-polymer cell, which would last about 5 seconds on a regular RC copter.
I'd give the pixelito a generous estimate of lasting 90 seconds.
I just read about this nifty contraption in Backyard Flyer magazine, a publication for miniature RC planes and such. there's a little column on it, with a URL that they haven't posted yet.
It says that the first one he built was in 1997, and it weighed 125 grams. "20 prototypes later, the Pixelito still has 4-channel control and weighs just 6.9 grams--almost 20 times lighter!"
Apparently, it is controlled by IR from a modified futaba radio, so he wouldn't have to worry about it going out of sight, lol.
btw: the body is made out of a single 1mm-diameter carbon-fiber rod. sweet.
Well, it seems that despite our best efforts, micro$oft has once-and-for-all proven that not all open-source software is good.
You have won the argument M$, now you may return to price gouging as usual.
Last friday I went to this really awesome place called the Gamer's Hub that is basically like a huge LAN party that you pay to go to. I would definitely recommend a place like this for people who are fed up with cheaters and weenies.
The major advantages:
-No cheaters, because theres no cheats installed on the computers
-If someone is being a weenie, you can walk over and slap them on the back of the head
-Supports very strong team play, as you can easily talk to members of your team without some loser weenie screaming profanity over his microphone.
-There's plenty of people there, so the games are more exciting than 4 or 5 person LAN parties
-You get to try out games like BF1942 or Savage which i had not played before and am definitely going to buy now.
I'm not trying to advertise for this place, just telling you how fun this genre of play is. If there is any place like this near you, definitely give it a try, it is way more fun than a LAN party or the 'Net

Maybe we infuse the hiv-fighting gene into or own gene pool by having sexual relations with the monkeys, that ought to prevent HIV.
Oh, wait...
Good to know that SCC is getting a fair and speedy trial.

Aww, when i first read the title i was thinking Starship Enterprise "divert power to forcefields!"
Too bad.
Does this annoy anyone else, or is it just me?
or you could set up a POP3 server on your computer, either one works.

once again, we have chosen not to read any of the available links or articles. ;-)
also, he deserves negative mods for supporting the dmca

I think you'll find the answer to both questions is "why not?"
