A) You're confusing theft with copyright violation. Stealing a car harms the company by removing money from them, in the form of parts, labour, and profits. Copyright violation is different, because it's not like Valve loses $40 every time their game gets ripped: they just lose the potential for a customer.
The technique of killing civilians and then first-responders when they get there is the primary scenario to win in all the Grand Theft Auto games[.]
I've played the newer GTA games, and critical to winning the game is to avoid killing civilians or police, as the police will come down harder on you if you do. Mr. Thompson may have a valid point in linking video games to violence, but this outright lie undermines his credibility.
Actually, both of you are partially wrong. Doom 3 uses DirectX components (like DirectSound, DirectInput), but, instead of using Direct3d and DirectDraw, it uses OpenGL. In short, Doom 3 (win32 client) uses both DirectX and OpenGL. Just not Direct3d or DirectDraw.
They are using DX9. They use it for things like DirectSound, DirectMusic, etc. DX9 includes DirectDraw and Direct3D, which iD replaces with OpenGL. DirectX has much more than just Direct3D, which iD does not use. iD uses other, smaller, aspects of DX9, though.
to give you this emergency message: ``Are your mortgage rates skyrocketing? Are your sexual organs too small? Do you have more money than brains? You can solve all of these problems by purchasing SUPER-VIAGRA! . . . and something about a tornado.''

Maybe they'll be making psDooM 3: the perfect excuse for getting an nVidia 6800 in your work computer. Remember the good old days when you didn't have to turn off the lights to run ps?
The co-op mode was actually planned by id, but was removed because of all the areas where there are tunnels where only one person can fit through. Perhaps, some day, someone will make a Sven Co-op-like mode for Doom 3 that will include map modifications. Only time will tell.
Do you really want to be blinded everytime a light flickers, and see the stunning reflections and shadows in a dull, fuzzy green? IMHO the id developers did well not to give the player night vision. It would have ruined the atmosphere created by the masterful creation of photons that bounce.
On that same quote, how is it Rockstar's responsibility to ``do more to keep these games out of the hands of minors''? They just develop the games. The ESRB rates them. The stores sell them. Should Xerox be sued for people forging money?
They've found a way to infect creatures with the brain-eating protein . . . I guess that's just as good as curing a disease that threatens the mind of this generation.
AIDS drugs were just an example. The USA spends a total of 26 billion dollars on space each year. Let's see . . . 26 gigadollars per year times 40 years is 1 teradollar. A lot of good can be done with that.
It seems as if space exploration has become a veritable black hole for funding. As my grandmother said, "They should fund heaven on earth before going to explore it." Though space exploration *may* have some good effects on research (like joysticks), I feel that we first need to invest in research to, say, cheapen AIDS drugs or provide cleaner water.

. . . in other news, hell has been reporting temperatures in record lows. Let's go to the dark lord Satan now for the weather.
The article shows that Jack Thompson says:

Tell them about how you'd like to have a Beowulf cluster of Soviet Russian school children.
Mechanical Doom 3!

As a high school student, my server ``room'' is the 30 centimeters between the VCR and the nintendo.
It might be wise to shut off your SSH server until MD5 has either been confirmed reliable, or replaced.

I just write the MD5 of my password on a piece of paper. When the time comes that I need to enter my password, I simply decode it!

He better hope that I don't roll a 14 after entering the plains of Azkar: a +1 Gelatonous Cube!
Oh my god! I've become one of them!

As the old adage states, in its many forms, that the one thing ``they'' can't take away from you is knowledge. While true, Microsoft can still own it.
My keyboard has taken years of one-hand typing and bad aim.
. . . hello, HDDBurn!
People said that I was crazy for keeping all of my programs in "a.out" format . . . WHO'S CRAZY NOW?

I run Linux on my Mac, and FreeBSD on my x86 PC, but I don't think one makes me smarter than the other!
