    yes, you heard me, its the internet users in saudi arabia that wants to have these sites black listed and i applaud them, i dont want my kid to suddenly stumble upon a pop up of a naked woman in an indecent position.
    why should i set up my own proxy + black list when the government can and should do so? after all open source has proven more eyes kills more bugs. the bugs here are porn sites.

    furthermore, this is not the only example of a community driven black list. if i remember correctly, the christian church of philipines has an isp that offers family-safe browsing.

    thats true
    look at nessus and openvas. the guys at nessus decided to drop the gpl for version 3 and nessus 2.x was forked to gnessus (beep! illegal manouver) and then named changed to openvas.

    You are making your company dependent on the GOOD WILL of others.

    Quite to the contrary: with OSS, you are not dependent on anybody.

    The real thing you should worry about is that with closed source software, you are at the mercy of your vendor.


    tell me about it .. we bought an archiving software that was full of bugs that acted inconsistently and the company itself dint know how to deal with. in the end i believe we were a major reason the software company discontinued the product. problem is .. we are still stuck with the lousy piece of software and no support nor source code

    i have read some of the comments here and agree that as a consumer i wouldnt want to throw away something i bought nor have my right to use something i owned more than once taken away from me.
    however, how come no one has mentioned the environment? microsoft will be forcing consumers to dispose of useless plastic disks that do not decompose.
