  1. 2nd hand drinking? on Help Select Questions for Bush and Kerry · · Score: 1

Doesn't exist does it? And before you go to tobacco, that does not cause changes in mental function the way weed does.

  2. Great idea. Some info. on Adobe Releasing New Photo Format · · Score: 5, Informative

A raw image is what directly comes out of the CCD. In fact it uses less storage than the bitmap that can be produced from it. But it's even better, as with it you can customize white balance and such after the picture has been taken. I use the raw images exclusively on my Canon S45 (it's a difficult feature to find). The problem appears to be in standardization.

  3. Decimal ugliness! on Overclockers Top 6GHz With A 3.6GHz-Rated P4 · · Score: 1

Oh, the wasted computing power computing decimal when hexadecimal is so much easier. You don't need more Hertz, you need to switch to hexadecimal!

  4. In post-singularity anarchy on Persuading A City To Go Wireless? · · Score: -1, Offtopic

We won't need to convince any political body to go wireless. You just talk with those in your small group of defensive pods that host consciousness in silicon about the protocols you'll use. Much simpler.

  5. We are all like windows. on Gaim Maintainer Rob Flynn Interviewed · · Score: 0, Troll

So brittle. The day will come when we will exist in defensive pods that are impervious to nearly all weaponry. Just host consciousness in a sturdy pod.

At that point we'll be spread out in space alone or in small groups. Protocols wouldn't be a problem, and even if they were we'd have enough computing power to easily translate. So no need for all these IM formats.

  6. A transhuman in defensive pod on Asteroid 4179 Toutatis Will Miss Earth, This Time · · Score: 1

Wouldn't have much problem. The pod could maneuver away quickly. When will we host our sentiences in defensive pod? Then we can get back to libertarian politics.

  7. Transhuman add on? on Dual Opteron SFF PC Tested · · Score: 1

When we transfer our sentience to defensive pods, will this be useful? Perhaps our main interface with reality will suffice.

  8. Chess...go...running joke. on Hikarunix: The Go Distro · · Score: 1

Every chess article some wide-eyed enthusiast chimes in on Go like he's the first in the West to discover it.

  9. What about chess? on Hikarunix: The Go Distro · · Score: 1

There's an ancient game called chess that's so much more elegant than Go.

  10. Transhumanism. on Submit and Moderate Questions for Bush and Kerry · · Score: 1

Would you consider a "manhattan" or "apollo" style project to bring humans to the next level? The big prize is locating where and how consciousness operates. Lesser prizes are already being worked on--including cochlear implants and artifical eyes.

  11. Great for the "disabled" on Flexible Sensors Make Robot Skin · · Score: 1
Meaning every one of us. At some point--the singularity--we will have control over the inputs and outputs of our sentience. No more suffering. No need to itch or pee.

I can only imagine it like having sight and hearing for the first time, but far greater than that.

  12. We are already disabled. on Flexible Sensors Make Robot Skin · · Score: 1

Every one of us. At some point we will have full control over inputs and outputs of our sentience. When we know just what that means, going back will feel like reincarnating as an ant.

  13. Faster charge times on Nintendo DS to Launch November 21 · · Score: 1

Popular Science notes a thirty second charge time for a new type of battery (similar in capacity to Li-ion though).

  15. Build a defensive pod? on 2250 AD: A Nautical Odyssey · · Score: 0, Offtopic

Putting your brain in a defensive pod would protect it from TB--it only attacks the lungs anyway. Eventually we'll see just how the thalamus hosts consciousness and do away with the brain too. Then take vacations to the center of the sun and be fine!

  16. Transhumanism on Tuberculosis May Become A Global Threat Again · · Score: 1

Was just going to take the transhumanistic angle when I saw this. Leave the politics to the lower beings--this is /. . Heart-lung machines are already available. Lungs shouldn't be important to a transhuman--only the brain is.

  17. We need to get beyond the animal on Spinach May Soon Power Mobile Devices · · Score: 1

Fossil fuels and food are all the realms of the animal. Nuclear and antimatter are the future. A recent New Scientist notes that pocket nuclear devices will come soon. Now you're talking many binary orders of magnitude better power.

  18. Host sentience in pod first on People on Mars in 30 Years? · · Score: 1

If we can just figure out what the thalamus does between its lobes to host sentience, recreate it in a defensive pod. Then you can live in the center of the sun if you wish.

  19. Rate of what? on Debian Hardened Aims For Security · · Score: 1

Of random number generation? Sure some CPUs and chipsets have a thermal noise TRNG, but how much is still an ugly LCG seeded by the time?

  20. Host sentience in a defensive pod. on Home Defense, Geek Style? · · Score: 1

  21. Living through nuke blast? on Mushroom Cloud Reported Over North Korea · · Score: 1

If we host sentience in a defensive pod, it could survive the blast. The sentience may need to be set unconscious for awhile, but a neutron star or electric defense system in the pod could neutralize any type of nuke that exists now.

  22. Custom beings . on Science Fiction Writers Discuss The Future · · Score: 1

I can't wait to progress beyond being human. The endpoint I see as a custom being, where the only constant is minimum needed to host sentience. Pop it into a neutron star shell or electric armor and you're nearly invincible.

  23. Enthusiasm without truth! on General Solution for Polynomial Equations? · · Score: 2, Funny
