"let people work for what they're willing to work for. If the work and pay suck then people will try to do better... and if they're too lazy to do better then that's their own damn problem."
No, this would never work. If I ask for more money at my job, I'm ignored. If I make any noise in the matter to anyone I can't trust, I'm out of a job and replaced despite my experience. People at my job go years without raises (and no adjustments based on min-wage changes), and not because they never speak up or don't deserve it.
We'd all happily quit and find new, better paying jobs with bosses who'll listen to our concerns... but we can't. No one's hiring, and no one wants to pay you "what you're worth". So we're all stuck here, really.
Because this nation and the world at large has a serious problem with terrorists hijacking planes, right ? Maybe some percent-of-a-percent of the number of deaths due to, say, domestic crime ?
Well, I say damn the Wright brothers and their terrorist-attracting mechanical flying contraption ! That's the problem.
Anyone ever read the comic DMZ? How long before the backdrop for that comic becomes reality? A new American civil war? I just wish Americans would stand up and fight for their rights.
I'm sure if we had more zebra mussels in Lake Ontario we'd be better off than we are now. Kodak (and others) have polluted that lake to the point where fishing is discouraged. The fish seem to have become poisonous and you can smell the pollutants in the lake for miles.
It won't even feed the rental market. The games are at the price point where most rental stores aren't going to shell out to buy most games. Sure, you'll be able to rent a handful, but anything outside of the absolute top sellers you won't find. And forget about being able to rent the entire game system like we could do with the PS2 and Xbox when they first came around.
Is this really necessary for gaming ? An Athlon 64 with a decent videocard and a gig of RAM is enough to run any game well and keep it looking great. Why do I need this ? High end CPUs out now are more than good enough.
Unless of course, you're one of "those" types of gamers, needing to buy the latest, greatest and most expensive tech possible in order to run your games as well as someone else who spent $1000 on their system.
They're already off by a number of degrees, and have been for awhile now. That's why there's "true north" and "magnetic north". I think, but I'm not entirely sure, that compasses and other navigational devices currently compensate for the difference.
I loved those two games (and Dark Sun Online, way back on Heat..), but a few years back I just couldn't get them to run anymore. Pretty disappointing, really.
Some of us like having a physical copy of the game that won't get wiped out with a header crash... and while you may argue that I could simply download it again, what happens when that company goes out of business ? I'd be lucky to find a copy of Planescape: Torment outside of Ebay or online stores selling used games. If we could buy online and have them shipped to us, it'd still be cheaper than buying straight from the store too. We're not paying for their overhead.. there isn't any (or as much..).
I completely agree agree about the physical manual issue. What's worse are those games that not only are simply the CD in the box without the dead-tree manual, but lacking a PDF manual as well ! I believe System Shock 2 pulled that little trick on me.
Apparently there are a whole hell of a lot of idiots out there then, eh ? Parents doing research on schools ? More like "send him to the one of the two schools in the district that has less fights." Plus it's illegal to not send your child to a school (at least in NYS). Not every parent has the time to homeschool, or the money to pay for private schooling either.
I don't know of a single parent who's convinced their children are in good hands at school. Not a single one.
Morrowind wasn't nearly as buggy as the original two Fallouts. The worst Morrowind has ever done to me was drop me off the edge of the world while I was underwater once. Fallouts have given me bsods, crashes, outright shutdowns, corrupted save games, and cars that split into two pieces;)
HomeLAN - How much input will Interplay have in the development of Fallout 3? Can they say "yes" or "no" to things like game design, story, etc?
Pete Hines - We have complete creative control over the development of the game.
HomeLAN - Will any team members from the previous Fallout games be involved in Fallout 3?
Pete Hines - Too early to talk about stuff like that.
HomeLAN - Ok. Final question..has development of Fallout 3 actually begun and can you give us any idea of a release date?
Pete Hines - I'll take the last one first. WAY too early to talk release dates. Yeah, we've started pre-production on Fallout 3 development.
Also, from Bethesda dev Gary Noonan:
Being a developer at Bethesda, I am also a big Fallout fan. I played all of the titles from FO1 to FOBOS. Not so much a fan of FOBOs or FOT, but I did play them through. To this day, FO1 is still in my top 5 fav games, not just RPGs. The campy humor, the grotesque action, and the integrated pop culture, as well as Pip Boy (can't leave THAT out!) are what allow FO to stand out from other titles. I agree, without these, it is simply NOT FO.
Now, the fact is, this news is just that.... NEWS. I have known about this for some time now, and I have been excited about it since the deal was still in the making. I AM a fan of FO. Who better to have working on a game than a FAN.... someone who knows the game, knows what it's about, knows the mood, knows the setting and atmosphere. Now, as a new development even here in the office, it's still quite a welcoming shock and we are ALL eager to be a part of it. I can't put into words how much I am dying to be a part of it.
So, for all the existing Tes fans, welcome the FO fans. Everyone has their opinions about titles and developers.
For the FO fans joining us, give it a chance. Everyone (well, I really speak for myself) here is excited about this opportunity and it is talked about quite a bit.
And for all, let's keep it cool. As everyone who has been here for a long enough period of time knows, we developers listen to what the fans have to say. The forums are our link to hearing your thoughts and input on aspects of the titles.
I have an amazing idea. Why not make the fucking game people actually want instead of making all these spinoffs that on one's going to like ? I love the Fallout series, and even enjoyed Tactics, but I'd never buy or sign up for a Fallout Online. If they do it, it'll probably be an even bigger flop than Fallout: BOS, mainly because it would cost them so much more to make...
Wow, I misread that one! " Largest Object in the Universe Destroyed"...
Good thing we're a lot more like the "smallest object in the universe"...

And big enough to crush Rummy, Rice, and the rest at the same time.

My point was "why buy it NOW ? What I have now is fine for now, no need to bust a nut over this yet." Perhaps I should have elaborated.

I 100% agree, and I just ran out of modpoints yesterday...
Good to know I wasn't the only one thinking this. Well, at least we get radioactive beer and warm, centuries-old cola in the post-apoc.
This list is the exact reason I'm a PC gamer with a Gamecube, but no PS2 and no Xbox.
I have no idea, it's just what I've read. Maybe you compensate for it youself ?

The sad part is, I've actually played D&D over the phone...
I think that's more a merit than a flaw.
"Black, TOCA Race Driver 3 and FIFA Street 2"..
Hm, generic shooter whose only redeeming quality would be graphics, and two sports sequels. So impressed am I, watch me do a jig !

Because if the user is sad enough to have her computer this messed up, she'll never be able to figure out Linux.
