If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and sounds like a duck then you can be fairly certain that it's a duck. DRM is DRM. You're not going to fool anyone by changing it's name. Especially after the/. crowd finds out what you're trying to do.
That's it. They finally did it. Sony's latest has proven to be the proverbial last straw. For many years, my 'DO NOT BUY' list has had only four names on it. Now it has five. I know Sony couldn't care less about my never again purchasing one of their products, but millions of us will make a difference. Hide and watch.
Let's be realistic. Anything in the atmosphere that's tethered to the ground is in for trouble. Be it a 40MW generator, a space elevator, an advertisement, or whatever, sooner or later it's going to get violently disconnected. Odds anyone?
Well, obviously it's going to take some time for them to work out the bugs. I asked for a place to get a hamburger. It thought I wanted to be connected to the library.
PJ and Groklaw are small potatoes when it comes to that which has been assaulted by SCO. Our very legal system has been assaulted by SCO and they continue to get away with it. If our legal system worked the way a legal system is supposed to work, SCO would have slapped into oblivion by now just for all the lies they've told to the court. This has got to be one of the sadest and most emotionally painful demonstrations we've ever had to endure.
I've read in other places that AAC is NOT patented, so would you please provide a link to something definitive that supports your statement that AAC IS patented. Thanks.
Most important point from the EMI release: "EMI expects that consumers will be able to purchase higher quality DRM-free downloads from a variety of digital music stores within the coming weeks, with each retailer choosing whether to sell downloads in AAC, WMA, MP3 or other unprotected formats of their choice."
(my bolding)
Those who would rather not install the iTunes client on their computer will soon have DRM-free digital music downloads available from other online retailers more to their liking.
I can't believe this little article has pulled so many slashdotter's chain. What difference does it make what people believe? AFAIC this article has no business on a tech forum. These kinds of polls can get different results on any given day in any given place. Give it a rest!
Thanks. You took the words right out of my mouth. I was fine with what he said until he recommended starting with the X86 architecture. Good thing I wasn't taking a sip on my coffee at the time. It's relatively easy learning with the flat 6800 memory space, but X86 would turn them off rather quickly I'm sure.
Having been quoted by the media for so many years now, you'd think more people would take Chicken Little's warnings more seriously in these last days. Who cares about a slight global warming trend when the sky reaching us is so imminent. Wake up folks!
I don't know about you, but often times the music I like could be listed under more than one genre, but they aren't. Sometimes I'll be looking under the genre where I think my favorite music will show up and actually be missing some of the best music because I chose the wrong genre to be looking at. Catagorizing by genre is a problem in that respect. I don't know what the answer is. Do you?
So what? Whether Pamela Jones is a real single individual or an army of people working at IBM, what bearing does that have on SCO's case? Ans: None. It's just more smoke coming out of the SCO legal team. It won't help them win their case. True, they may be pissed that somebody's been keeping an accurate track of the case, but so what?
True, but how fortunate that in many cases the friend's friend was hired because it was known that he/she could do the job and therefore reduced the uncertainty of bringing somebody on board that only appeared on paper to be able to do the job.

I noticed that. What do you suppose is the reason for that line of code?

This is going to be a problem for quarter-wave diapole fabrication.
Maybe then they'll consider doing Gnash for Windows. That'd be nice.

Duh. Depends on who you are and what you do. For some folks, yes, for most folks, no.
Stu- Great comments. Don't let comments from the /. subculture get you down. There's plenty of us here that share your views.

Terrorists?
"Simply adding an 's' to the end is sufficient to make it plural."
At least on an aircraft you don't have to be concerned about earthquakes (and cattle).
As MP3 is more locked into corporate patents than AAC, why would we convert? Seems to me it would be the other way around.
Never mind. I found it.g #Licensing_and_patents

SCO should be so fortunate.
Like it's really necessary that we care. Chicken and Egg .. Bla Bla Bla Bla
Nothing worthy of reading here. More right along.
