My friends and I used to play both Rifts and Shadowrun. Shadowrun was for serious-ish play, Rifts for epic slaughterfests.
One of my favorite things about it is the books never go out of date, they don't rewrite the same stuff over and over with a couple tweaks so they can resell it to you. That's also a big problem, because over the 10+ years since the first book was written, new rules have come out that clash with old, restrictions detailed in older books are broken in newer ones, and no corrections are ever made to clarify the confusion. If they ever went through and made a book of corretions and clarifications, I'd start looking into the series again.
Wait, what? Really, what are you talking about? Microsoft tried to subvert the EU's procedings by asking a different contry's courts to grant them discovery in the case. They were told that they couldn't have the documents by the EU court because they were irrelevant, so they went to the US to try to get their hands on the documents. The judge saw what MS was trying to do, and said no. That's like running to your neighbor's house and asking them if you can have a brownie you mom just baked, because she already said no.
Landlines can't call yahoo accounts. Read the summary, it says the calls have to be innitiated by the yahoo account. The setup is like NAT, you can call out but they can't call in.
City of Heroes/Villians is my favorite, GMs actually help, the devs aren't mysterious figures concealed from public view, the system is setup so that gold farmers are rather worthless, none of your abilities lose their usefulness as you level... Helps that they've got the only pet class that I think feels like a real pet class. Warlocks are weak mages with their own tanks, hunters are archers with something else to worry about. But a Mastermind, ordering around a squad of 6 mercenaries, sending out buffs, debuffs, and the occasional attack of your own, THAT'S a pet class.
"If you run adaware and all the spyware programs are Nascar popups, you might be a redneck." "If your case mod is patterned after the general lee, you might be a redneck." "If your working DVR is sitting on top of your non-working DVR, you might be a redneck." Sorry, just had to.
Yes, the consumers will ultimatly decide. And the decision will be "Awesome, the new season Lost/Desperate Housewives/, all on one disk! But it's only on this new format, no DVD... Ah well, time to get a new player!"
Welcome to the world of sheep. Sheep may not like to be sheered, but you can either force them into the corral by siccing the dogs on them (lawsuits and court rulings, bribed FCC officials), or you can tempt them in with some hay (see above).
Heh, it's only a +1 mod, but it's still probably more than you'll get for correcting me. And I didn't even have to resort to soviet russia, profit, or $sys$ jokes.
From what I've read it's the physical properties of the gasseous hydrogen that helps combustion, not the fact there's extra hydrogen in there. In a normal diesel cylinder the fuel closer to the glow plug ignites first, and the combustion travels to the rest of the fuel in time. But since hydrogen burns faster, what happens here is the hydrogen works as a carrier, it ignites and carries the ignition energy to the outer edges of the cylinder before it would normally get there. The time delay between the outer and inner areas of the fuel mix igniting is smaller, allowing it to burn more before the piston can move down and lower the pressure in the cylinder. Faster burning means more pressure on the piston and less unburnt fuel exiting the cylinder.
It's actually a really good idea, as long as it doesn't alter the engine's timing too much (if it ignites faster, some of the explosion might happen durring the upstroke and work against the rest of the engine).
I'm blown away by the fact this barren state actually produced something useful... I thought all we contributed to the rest of the US were unwashed NOLS people and coal.
The problem I found is training the AI to take care of itself is considered an evil act... Even though I never cast an attack miracle, threw a stone, or did anything someone would consider "evil", the fact I didn't babysit my towns giving them housing 24/7 meant they always had a desire. While my creature spewed rays of holy sunshine out his arse, my god hand looked like it really had been severed and my temple could poke your eye out just by looking at it. I never once found out what a good temple looked like.
Lets compare it to bittorrent, shall we? Say you find a torrent with 3 seeders, 3 sources of obtaining the data you want. Now lets say one of those sources gets cut off. Sure, you can still get what you want, but it'll take longer. And that's all they're going for here, makt it take longer for people to get it. Cut out the easiest way to rip the movie, and fewer people will take the time to pirate it.
I applaude this move, they're taking steps to protect their stuff and it didn't involve the courts. I was getting kinda sick of reading about the media giants tactics of sue first, ask questions later.
Check out Dish's DVR reciever, 80hrs recording time, pretty easy to use. The only problems is the reciever is twice as tall as the normal reciever, and the remote has a "Dish" button in the middle that sticks up a half inch above the other buttons, and when you press it it opens their stupid information application.
We had Dish Network until just recently, had it for around 6 years. I can tell you this, the only time we never had a signal, is when the damn power was out. Wind, rain, massive snow, nothing effected it. Our new cable service? Every day one of our channels is having a problem. We had the dish DVR reciever for about a year and a half, 80 hours of recording time, 5x what the new digital cable DVR has. The dish guide was not only more intuitive control wise, but it was actually correct, unlike our cable guide that half the time displays the east coast schedule, and the other half the west coast (we're mountain).
Why did we switch? Cable company's offering a switch deal, saves the parents almost $500 in the first year (though after that it becomes more expensive, so after the 1 year contract is up we're switching back).
You do remember who the RIAA and MPAA are, right? These guy's would sue the power company for providing the power that ran the computers that ran the software that downloaded the copyrighted content if they felt like it...
To hell with the near infinite number of non-infringing uses for electricity, without that damn stuff people wouldn't be able to share music online. Even better, those hippie radio stations that broadcast the music for all to listen to without paying wouldn't be able to run either, people would HAVE to buy CDs, and without working CD-writers they couldn't make coppies of them for friends either.
Damn, I gotta pattent this before the RIAA/MPAA's lawyers come up with it themselves...
MPAA lobyist: Mr technical lawyer thinks P2P is legal enough not to ban, but Mr suitcase full of unmarked bills thinks otherwise. What do you think Mr congressman?
Phew, that's good, the dog's sensitive noses were having problems with the lawyer's natural oders.

What'll they think of next?
Probably some way to run said industry into the ground, so as not to give the rest of the sheep any dangerous ideas.
I hope they atleast bought it a drink first...
The problem isn't guys roleplaying female characters, it's guys roleplaying female players.

Why go with a little-available, easily disable mechanisim when the tried-and-true method is already available?
You're forgetting the engineer's creed: "If it ain't broke, fix it."

Why can't the universities say, "Sure, just tell us when you're going to buy us the equipment"?
Uhm, I think that's exactly what they're doing here, with the "$450 per student" emphasis...

So instead of 10 new "reality" shows a year, we'll have 20 lower budget ones every 6 months?
And people wonder why I never watch tv anymore...
"We're off to see the Linux. The wonderful Linux OS!"
Makes you wonder who the judge will side with.
I'm hoping Avenue Media, I make good money removing spyware from people's machines.
