    Hey, the Ubuntu project has an all-libre version of the distribution as well. But if you've got hardware you can't support without some restricted stuff that makes you feel icky... I'm not sure what distribution developers are expected to do. Tell users what hardware they should buy so that their distros will work?

    The most impressive parts of Vista functionally are (would be) the security "enhancements" (don't need them, thanks) and WinFS, which they've left out.

    If Tom's review is a good list of the new features, well... I'm significantly underwhelmed. You have the option of running your swap on a flash drive! Well hoo-fucking-ray! I guess I also have the option of burning out the cells in the span of a month!

    Microsoft is entirely capable of producing a next-generation OS with lots of new, innovative technology. Vist isn't it.

    but I agree. Vista has *not* impressed me so far. xgl is just as impressive (or at least, just as useful) as Aero Glass, and with Dapper being as gorgeous and capable as it is...

    By the time Vista comes out, Edgy will have been released. I'm seriously considering thoroughly forsaking Microsoft when Vista rolls around.

    Try 16 or 32. I used to run Win95 on a Pentium/133 with 16MB of RAM and it worked fine. With 98Lite, 98 is essentially 95 with bugfixes.

    Parent is a bit off his rocker. There's no reason to assume you can't do a fresh OS install on a laptop. This is why the manufacturer provides you with drivers. I've done this on my old laptop several times. Only reason I can't do it on my new one is because it's a tablet and you basically *can't buy* a copy of Windows XP Tablet anywhere unless you're an OEM.

    The same cannot be said for, say, murder.

    This poor woman has lumped all of the wild indelicacies of her past into one horrible thing to be avoided at all costs. That's not logical or even ethically sound, it's emotional backlashing.

    Expect Intel toilet-graphics in all but the most powerful MacBook, if even that. Remember, this is their budget machine. The toilet-graphics will allow them to drop the price OR make more of a margin on the computer. Either way, they win.

    This is super disappointing to me. I was really hoping Apple would come out with a small tablet with a discrete graphics controller. I love mine, but would get rid of it in a second if Apple came out with something just like it.

    Nintendo thought of ALL the names they could have picked for their console, and they chose "Wii." It's a fucking stupid name, man. Nintendo fans have as much of a right to complain as Nintendo does to tell them "fuck you, we're doing it our way."
